I like how truthful you are talking about new bases...is it going to give you a noticeably better shave? No. But in the post shave and the long run yes you may notice it. And you get to enjoy lathering knowing that you're using the best and latest and greatest. It's all about the feeling of using the highest end products on the market.
I know how you feel about so many different bases but the way I look at it, all of Pete's bases are great, so it just fun to try em. There's no losers just variety. Whatever you get it'll perform like a champ.

My personal feeling is that it would be easier for the vendors who sell his product if he had some standardized offerings. I think he intends to do this. Rumor has it that David kept pestering Pete to name the base. DM after DM…finally Pete had enough and told David that there was already something called a 34-C, so Pete went with VR-1.
I don't mind Pete having so many great bases. It just means that I can order any scent and know it's going to perform. I commend Pete for always trying to improve.
He definitely works hard at it. I think sometimes it can make it difficult for vendors. Once he makes an older scent in a new base, it makes what the vendors still have left on their shelves seem less attractive. Options are always a great thing though.

Top tier setup and nice shave. Once I get through some soap, A&E is next on my list to try. I agree and mentioned on a previous post, today's denser, low structure formulas work better for me and I get a better and more enjoyable shave.
I absolutely love the base on the Pedro fiasco marzipan I have. Today is one of my Christmas parties so had to use some of my favorites, Stirling barbershop soap and PAA atomic age bay rum splash!
Speaking about vegan offerings: I personally tried the shaving butter vetimore 3 times now, but failed to get a good useable lather with it. I like the scent and I do believe you when you mention in video's that it is likely user error. And I have seen it looking great on other channels. But I guess you need quite a lot of product and just a little bit of water? If this new line comes in a similar scent at some point I might consider it, if I actually finish the tub and if you think it does lather a lot more easily.
It's always difficult to figure out what's going wrong for someone else. The first thing to do is get some distilled water and try that. That seems to work better for people who have hard water. After that I generally encourage people not to splay the brush too much early on in the lathering process and add water slowly. You'll get it, I'm sure!
Excellent! I was impressed with that razor from the first time I saw it and it looks like it has all the right ingredients to make it a great one. I don't know their story, but they are definitely shaving enthusiasts and have compiled a lot of little details to make an outstanding razor. My only nitpick is a general one with a number of razor companies using this long torpedo handle. I'm sure it works great, but aesthetically it looks unbalanced and out of proportion to me. Ah Pete, he definitely is a character, like a hummingbird-LMAO! Even though I don't know him, I totally get him. You're right about ease of use, which translates to enjoying the process and about the density/consistency of the lather. That is probably where the real advancement is in modern soaps. I think in the race for post shave, they've inadvertently made a better style of lather that's easy to obtain.

Great shave today and that soap does look really good. It is on my list but no more soaps this year (I think). Using the Mister bottle is great, I saw you doing this and have now started this myself and it makes getting your face wet much easier.
Great shave Chris! I love all of Peters bases. K1 is really all I need because I use post shave products. That being said I love K2 and K2e. Haven’t tried vegan yet. 👍🏻

I do like post shave on a soap, but I only do a quick rinse and than a splash and for my shaves, I’ve found using the hover butter soaps helps me shave daily, but like you mentioned, it’s all down to individual preferences. Hey Chris can we get a MWF lathering tutorial, as you may know a lot of people including myself struggle to get anything other than a foamy lather out of this maybe you can help us out, im sure a lot of people would appreciate it :)
Hey Sir. What I do on the rare occasions that I use MFW, is to put warm water on top of the puck or whatever you've scraped out into a bowl first. I think this softens it up and makes it much easier. I'll try to do a lather video with that at some point when time permits.
Nice shave Chris. Offhand do you know the Apollo’s handle length, haven’t been able to find the info in the literature? Great looking handle but anything over 3.5” is not ideal for me. Thanks
Constant base changing really annoys me. When on second hand market especially, as you have to do extra effort to find out what exactly are you buying. Also when watching or reading reviews, the review has to caveat which iteration is it so a viewer can know and compare. Personally, I don't have problems with any base whatsoever, but I do appreciate artisans like Stirling, Caties, etc who have a great product and don't need to create demand based on incremental innovations.
