I am Indonesian, currently studying in college, my major is Biology. Many students, our next scientist were so vocal about this issue in their students commitee, student environmental movement, and such like that, but when they graduated they were just ignored it, and forgot about their 'so called movement'. I cannot blame them yet when I am watching this series my heart is hurt so much, and I immediately thinking "Dear Biology graduates where are you? They need you so much".
I dont want to be a hypocrite because I am same with them, but this series opening my eyes and thinking what can I do for them when I graduate later. Dear BBC, thank you for making this series. It hits so much.

@@AyedUA-cam I would not say that (I do not know their motivations), but it could simply be some found it a choice like the villagers face, putting the needs of their own families up against the needs of a noble cause, when that noble cause is facing multiple threats from multiple sources so they worry if they do choose the noble cause over their family it could be in vain. This is something governments should be getting involved in, not leaving it to ordinary people to fight alone.

Elephants are such lovely animals. They need all the help they can get these days.
In regards to deforestation (one of many threats to elephants), a wide variety of things can be done to help reduce the rate of it.
One thing that might help would be to keep our wooden furniture for as long as possible. If we replace it with brand new furniture too frequently, the demand for fresh wood will remain. While the demand for wood remains high, loggers will continue chopping trees down in high numbers.
Some of the wooden furniture in my home is over 30+ years old and still in good condition. I have no plans to replace it any time soon. Wooden furniture can last a long time if you take care of it.
Replanting trees and allowing everything else to grow back should be heavily promoted. For one thing, it will help make it more difficult for poachers to access certain areas populated by elephants.

I thought it's government's job to help people in need like the villagers from the start, providing with health and education services, with or without the dam plan. Also, if they move to another site, would there be any job for them and land to plant their crops? This only shows how neglected the people live in certain parts are :(
