*FOR THOSE THAT WANT THE VERSION OF OPL USED HERE* It's the anniversary edition. It is number 0.9.4 for reference, so you know what to look for.

Actually, OPNPS2LD-v1.2.0-Beta-DB-2203-aa531a8 is the latest version of OPL with the PS1 games menu.

OPL Will not scan any of the ps1 games. The install guide was followed to a T and i got nowhere.
Same here, I’ve done everything right and I even have the ps1 opl and nothing shows up for me
PS1 games won't show up on OPL 1.2.0 , so try open up OPL 1.1.0
I dunno why they removed that functionality in the newest version, but for PS1 games, you have to use the older version.
To clarify: use 1.2.0 for PS2 games and 1.1.0 for PSX games
make sure you use daily builds of opl and not official releases as only one supports ps1 games. and newer daily builds don’t support it for some reason, the one i used is timestamped 2021-11-14 and is working with ps1 games. cheers!

Hi Blaine. Great video. I was able to get several games working. However, games with multiple tracks for the bin files aren't recognized by OPL. Is there any way around this, or am I doing something wrong?

Heads up for anyone trying this - you’ll be fine if you follow the steps in the video, but you’ll need the 10th Anniversary Edition of OPL (DB TA) to get the PS1 games option. Also, POPstarter isn’t the most reliable emulator, so some games may not work well (i.e. Klonoa will freeze at some points).
how important is that ps1 game option? how do i update to the anniversery version?

I can confirm that this still works. I Did this last night (6/30/22). I also did this w all the apps at what is the most current versions. I did not use any older versions. I’d like to add(because it was not mentioned), that I have an internal hdd w games installed. I did this w a usb stick/thumb drive. I left hdd to auto recognition the way I had it, but also put usb to auto recognize. Just navigate left or right to change tabs for the different devices while in the OPL home screen. Hope this makes sense, and helps anyone.

@@ScratchMyAnchor the most current version of all apps mentioned in the video. I didn’t dig into any archives of older specific apps. Just the most recent on the top of the page.

@@nathaniel_117 I figured out the issue. I was looking for my ps1 games under "USB Games" instead of under "PS1 Games". didn't notice there was a tab for it. I'm also using 10th anniversary OPL currently. haven't gone back to the newer versions to see if it works on them
@SoapCanMan I downloaded the most current version that the website offered. Make sure to tap to the left. On the opl main screen. PS1 games have their own tab.
Can I use this guide for an external Hard drive like a SATA or is it strictly for a USB?

@curtisryan714 kind of.... so I created a partition through hdd manager called .__POPS - then had to change the name of each game to the game ID.title of the game (keeping it under 32 characters) then individually transferred each game from my USB stick to the pops folder on the HDD. Last thing was I personally downloaded the Jay Jat daily opl build just for ps1 games and that person brought back the tab to show ps1 games. Hope that helped and made sense.
The 2 videos I used were basically this guys video of ultimate ps2 and then the video about ps1 games om ps2 by project Phoenix media.... check the comments section of that for help too.

Hello, how about multidisc games like the FF series or MGS?
BTW, this is a great tutorial and quite easy to use, just to say that popstarter compatibility is quite low and many games will have graphical glitches and some won't even pass the PS1 logo.
your guide is very easy to follow like always , thanks for sharing it for free , i only dont know why we need to use an emulator to play ps1 game and the ps2 itself have full backyard compatibility , like the wii who can play the gamecube game too , you have access to that ios and every game worth well with it.

Confirmed working. A very simple and straight forward guide. The only issue i had encountered which others have mentioned below is that you may have an incorrect OPL version to get the PS1 games option to appear in the settings. Get the 10th anniversary version of OPL (OPL_1047_DB-TA) and up/downgrade your OPL.ELF in the BOOT directory.

I've tried to do this using OPL v.1.2 beta, but when I put the USB on the ps2, it doesn't show any ps1 games, plus the version I'm using doesn't have any settings regarding ps1 games. should I install the OPL version used in this video, or is there a way to do it with my current version?

@@Mr.Hollywood i used popstarter long ago I finished many games on it however be carful ! It has some killing bugs which destroy the game completely at one time i had my game saves randomly deleted and corrupted
@@evanlester660 so far I’ve played through many horror games, all regions, and haven’t had any issues. I did have my Galerian save file get corrupted but luckily I had just started lol but yeah the pop starter / OPL set up is so convenient.
Much, much simpler than trying to run it off HDD from my experience, thank you so much! I know this may be a silly question, but it wouldn't be possible to just move the POP folder and contents from USB to HDD via PS2 file-browser would it?
yes but with the usb standard the ps2 uses (668kb speeds) it would be very slow and in my experience it crashes everytime
Any game compatability issues? Before I tested an emulator on PS1 to PS2 but the voices are not synchronize to the game. Im planning to play RE series and FF series.

Hi, I have a USB drive with already working PS2 games, and I tried to copy a PS1 game following your video step by step, but I can't see the game in the PS1 Games tab menu on the OPL. The game I copied is Macross VF-X2. What could be the reason?

I got the Free McBoot from the link in the description and there is no OPL as shown on the video. There is OPNPS2LD(v1.2.0 MX4SIO) that has the same options showed on this video but it doesn't load any ps1 games! I was able to play ps2 games just fine but no ps1! I've been searching to see if there is something different that needs to be done with this OPNPS2LD but I've found nothing. Can you please tell me what needs to be done? Thank you in advance.

Every game I try including THPS ends up at a black screen after the ps1 logo and never loads. It shouldn't be my usb stick itself, right? I have the OPL 10th anniversary and the latest POP version. I do have a later model PS2 Slim 90001.

My PS2 works great with PS2 games. The reason I'm doing this is for the PS1 games. I've done everything in this video and also updated OPl to the newest version as mine was very old. The problem is that once i quit OPL or restart the console it reverts back to the old OPl. How is this possible? I updated OPL and ran it and the 10 anniversary screen showed up and the PS1 settings were available in the settings. When I quit back to the PS2 menu and starter OPL again it had reverted back to the older version.

This all worked for me, but for one of my games (Spyro 2) there's no background music playing. Could this be a file issue, or could it be settings on the ps2 could fix it?
The settings i have is less than those... for example dont have nothing like "PS1 Games display mode".

The latest version of OPL doesn’t have the “PS1 Games display mode” option, and when I toggle “BDM Device Start Mode” it has something next to it saying “block devices” and has USB permanently toggled to on. Can somebody please help me with this
