one of my fav aspects of blanc in both movies is how genuinely aggravated he gets when he sees injustice. he’s such a vibrantly good person on top of being an incredible detective - far superior to the sherlock trope in my opinion
Why? She was willing to kill everyone in the vicinity, as well as destroyed a beautiful, historical, work of art all for the sake of pointless revenge... and she sits there smug
One of my favourite lines is when Blanc is explaining the murder of Duke and saying how dumb it was just to add pinneapple juice to the drink and Birdie is saying that is dumb but genious and Blanc angrily saying no it's just dumb 😂😂
Also, Miles discussion of disruption is mirrored in the glass breaking scene. Helen starts breaking small things, then gets applause because she's breaking things other people want broken. But then she crossed the line nobody wanted her to cross by torching the Mona Lisa (which is also the most cliched painting to admire. I loved that detail)
Just saw this movie today and I love it so much!! Still prefer the first Knives Out just a little bit more but I love how they both took the whodunnit genre in opposite ways. The first was, what I consider, to be a great twist on the murder mystery genre. Where even though things seem pretty clear there’s actually deeper things going on than what we first imagine. And Glass Onion was more of a classic murder mystery but focusing on the theme of what hides in plain sight. When we at first believe that there might be a deeper and more complex meaning- but the answer was staring us in the face all along.
I did guess who the killer was about 30 mins in; but with no idea who the victim would be (that there would secretly be two; thought to be three); how it was done; the twins reveal. So even if you can guess an element of the mystery, the entire movie was so twisty that you will find yourself gasping. Loved it!
Called it too! It was fun but convoluted and twisty doesn’t mean smart. I like a twist when all the info is given to us, not when certain stuff is omitted / hidden for effect. 🤷🏻♂️ (I know this is probably an unpopular opinion given how well loved this movie is)
The best part of both movies isn’t guessing who the killer is or finding who it is but watching the story unravel and see the execution on how they get to the reveal
I like the subtle hint when Blanc is sitting on the terrace with Helen and he says I am not batman after she refers to him as the world greatest detective and then a few mins later he's brainstorming about going to the island and you hear the slow faint horns of Danny Elfman batman theme
I loved that refference too, and the second time I saw it it was in spanish and the dialogue changes to "I'm not James Bond" which I loved it too hahaha

Grace do you think they'd bring back Janelle Monae for the third film as Blanc's apprentice? He's constantly telling her how good she is at finding evidence/motive throughout the second half of the movie.
I didn't think this was as good as the first, but I still really enjoyed it. The first film felt tighter, and the cozy autumn setting was a better fit. Excited for future movies in the franchise though!
Edward Norton's face acting was good. I kinda figured out that he did something to Andi when she arrived but then i also believed him when he said that someone is trying to kill him lol. and also his face when Benoit solved his murder before it started was so funny.
I loved this movie so much that I saw it twice when it was in theaters. Grace, I'm just realizing now the meaning of the Sondheim and Lansbury cameos. They're both mystery nods, with Sondheim co-writing the murder mystery film "The Last of Sheila" and Lansbury from tv's "Murder She Wrote"! Wow, everything is in this film for a reason, and it all makes sense.

One thing I didn't understand was why Blanc thought it was stupid to pour pineapple juice in Duke's drink. Surely that's way better than just poisoning him? That way, when the police arrive, it would have looked like a tragic accident and there wouldn't have been a big murder investigation.
I think Ethan hawke’s cameo at the beginning was my favorite cameo, he radiates cool😂😂 the “you’re good” was so smooth. Loved this film about to watch it again right now
I personally think Dave Bautista is actually quite a good actor and has shown that he’s capable of a lot more range than his other WWE turned actor peers.

Loved the movie way more than I thought I would! Now THIS is a franchise that deserves 3-4 more sequels. As for appeal- this movie will appeal to everyone. It’s a great story, and has something for everyone while never loosing sight of its mission: to tell an epic mystery story. There’s no demographic this won’t cater towards
Just such a fun movie. It's why you watch films beautiful misdirection where you think you were trying to figure who wants to kill Miles. When in reality it was who killed Andi, and Dave Bautista's character. Ryan turned what could have been an obvious mystery to something beautifully hidden in plain sight and it plays like a Russian nesting doll. I didn't think he could come close with the brilliant job he did with knives out. But was great in its own fun way, and that ending I was on the edge of my seat not able to think how she could get out of this. Marvelous.
I loved it. Benoit and Helen had great chemistry. He was so cute with her. I love his character. So many times, the super-smart character is an unrepentant jerk, but Benoit is a total gentleman and a funny, good man.
What a brlliant movie, it takes itself seriously by just the right amount. "I like the Glass Onion as metaphor. An object that seems densely layered, but in reality, the center is in plain sight."
I’m from the South, & didn’t have a problem with the accent at all. Reminds me of a beautiful, young woman I knew in college that was the epitome of a Georgia Peach Southern belle, who used to really pour it on. And quite often it was for effect. Before college, she used to pilot airboat tours in the Okeefenokee Swamp, & chewed tobacco. I asked her why. She said she did it for the tourists. It was as much a part of the act as her overblown accent. Except it wasn’t really an act. She did indeed talk like that. And she had gotten addicted to chewing, & kept it up even after no longer giving tours. It’s a truly weird juxtaposition to see a beautiful woman chew tobacco lol. She was a character. And that was the point
When Benoit (and the movie) revealed the actual movie's island murder mystery would be "Which of his Bron's guests were going to kill him?" I suspected Bron would somehow end up being the killer as the movie was pushing so hard and so early on how much they all hated him and that he would be the victim. There has to be an arc where the opposite is true by the end or there's no twist. No big reveal. Which is essential to any mystery. And from The Last Jedi and the first Knives Out, Rian can't help but undermine the established status quo with a nice big twist.
Something confuses me. Why did Miles send an invite (the wood box) to Andi’s house after he had already killed her? I don’t remember that being explained in the movie.
The burning of the Mona Lisa was so heavily - and often - foreshadowed, I totally expected it. (The only other layer I saw coming was Miles being an idiot, as I recognized the telltale eccentric tech investor bro behavior.) And it also happens to be the one thing in the film that I dislike, which, being the grand finale after an otherwise fantastic ride, is rather unfortunate. Mostly because having a handful of different famous people/companies is one thing (as there are many of both), but destroying the most famous real world painting firmly separates this world from ours, and because I'd be horrified in reality.
It was a really good mystery cos even though I was trying to guess the killer the whole time, I really went back and forth on everyone until the very end when they revealed everything!
I watch it again and I think I got a very tiny error, and it explains why we don't notice Miles taking Duke's gun even on rewatch. They must have filmed several versions of certain scenes. When they're all drinking before Duke's death you can see him bumps against Katheryn Hanh, and you can see she takes the gun and hides it beneath a blanket
That's what I thought at first but when I rewatched it I noticed she did not take the gun. The whole bump thing was a misdirection. When I watched Miles hugging Duke I instantly saw him took the gun and tucked it in his pants.
I saw it twice already, and the thing that I love is that they don't play with camera angles to hide the reveals, once you see it for the second time you can clearly see the red spot of the envelope, when Blanc gives Helen the Klear fragment, and when Miles gives his glass to Duke, it was fantastic.. Also loved the refference to Batman being the world's greatest detective, and if you see the movie in spanish, Blanc's dialogue changes to "I'm not James Bond" And Birdy Jay's facemask is identical to one used by Lana Del Rey during the pandemic which brought her a lot of backlash.
I loved it. I was expecting Janelle Monae's performance to be underwhelming because of what you said in your review but I was really impressed. It also made sense that at the start she was acting a bit more stilted because of the twist of who she was. I thought her accent actually added to her personality and gave the movie a more down to earth character that it really needed. Both the first and second movie do such a good job of making such easy to root for heroes and hateable villains. Such a fun and satisfying watch. The only reason I prefer the first is because of its smaller, cosier and more realistic feel. I mean this one having a billionaire super villain with a fuel that could blow up the world was a lot more cartoony.
White Lotus and Knives out, whilst both having murder mysteries, are still very much different projects, both in theme as in style, so I don't think it will be a problem
I would say that White Lotus and Knives out can coexist because I think the great thing about them being in 2 different mediums makes all the difference. I think that while Knives out has to be a fast paced and much sharper story because it's a movie and only has so much time to get to the point, I enjoy that White Lotus can often seem like it's just meandering beautifully through an amazing location with interesting characters and watching there lives and the commentary and much more slowly unfolding the story cause we have much more time to spend with that world and those characters. I hope this made sense
I came to your review right after I saw the movie and I loved it! The misdirections were perfect! That whole scene with the glass and Kate Hudson's dress and also the constant sounds of the Mona Lisa was just amazing! I really felt uneasy and scared of the murder that was gonna happen with all the sounds and shouting. I don't even know if I didn't notice Edard Norton handing the glass to Dave Baustista until you pointed it out or did Ryan Johnson just tricked me into thinking that. It was so good it should be taught in Film class on misdirection. I agree on your opinion on Janelle Monae's performance. I was thinking why is her performance so stiff when she was Andi but I really liked her when she was Helen. I was so scared when I thought she was dead once they revealed it was Helen cause I liked her so much.
The way they cut the buildup to Batuista's death was brilliant. So many cuts and so much happening on screen that even you get distracted and dont notice Norton handing off the glass. Very clever. A lot of other hints about who the killer was and I got it pretty quickly, but still enjoyed the ride, and the extra complexity that kept being added made me doubt myself for a bit, but I also stuck with Norton just because he seemed the most obvious.
I didn’t think this film could live up to my unreasonable high standard set by the 1st Knives Out but Glass Onion actual surpassed my expectations. This movie is brilliant, I miss this type of movie where a have no idea what is happening as the movie goes on only to find my 1st guess of who the killer was, was right for the wrong reason but threw me off with its amazing complexity took me on a crazy journey only to bring me back to my original conclusion using a wild route didn’t even imagine was there.. absolutely brilliant movie 9/10
love the movie, I feel like I would love it even more if I saw it in theatres but I didn't like how it ended. Both Helen and Benoit are too smart to confront them with the napkin without a backup. The recorder used to spy on birdie would have been perfect for getting revenge on all of them since it wasn't just Miles that hurt Andi.
I liked that he snuck in these fun homages to Agatha Christie’s work. Duke’s death was right from And Then There Were None - also about murders on an island.
Why did Miles send Andi an invitation if he killed her? And why was he not fazed “Andi” showed up? Wouldn’t he be worried that she knows he tried to kill her?
A big clue that all is not as it seems was dropped just before "Andi" was shot, Benoit Blanc calls her "Helen"! Of course we shortly see that scene again, now with the knowledge she is Helen, but I totally missed he calls her that before we know who she really is. Why didn't I think "Helen? Who's Helen? Why did he call her that? Brilliant.
Ah I just searched your channel for this video and was sad that you didn’t have a spoiler review! Thanks for the upload, I always appreciate you insights
The biggest success of the film was the obvious misdirect in the trailers to show as if it's Miles getting killed, brilliantly hiding he is the killer ...
How were there "No actual crimes committed" in the first Knives Out? Ransom switched the bottles knowing it would kill Harlan, and he flat out murdered the house keeper himself. He burned down the morgue, and attempted to murder Marta. Throw in a couple counts of forgery. I would say Ransom directly committed more crimes than Miles in this. (And frankly was 10x smarter than Miles.)
I too saw it in theaters. And loved that we all gasped, laughed, clapped at the snappy Mona Lisa clap back Monae gave to Norton! 👏🏼 👏🏼 Just a great script and acting from everyone! And thought this is one of those sequels that’s better than the original.
Kareem Abdul Jabbar enjoys mysteries. He co-wrote a Mycroft Holmes novel with Anna Waterhouse in 2015. He is a member of the Baker Street Irregulars, society of Sherlock Holmes fans.
Janelle Monae was the MVP, loved kathrynn Hahn but she had very little to do, I hope they do an all star in the final movie bringing back Chris Evans and others
Warning: I did not enjoy this movie. It's my opinion. So I will admit that I had an intent dislike towards RJ's Last Jedi... however, I was actually quite impressed with Knives Out... it was interesting, well paced, and well directed ensemble movie. I had actually been waiting to see this, to see how RJ had evolved the story-method. However, I have to say I did a hard swing on this sequel after seeing it on Netflix. I have to say that not only did I find it weirdly lifeless (for an ensemble piece), I thought the characters were boring, the story was poorly constructed, and the pacing atrocious. I just couldn't care about any of these characters... who lived/who died?... didn't give a rats. People mention the ending... I literally fell asleep during this movie, forced myself to continue watching (on streaming) and then fell-asleep again. So I don't put that much weight on the ending. I just found it so uninteresting that I can't see how it was the same series/director. Then I recalled the spiel on "disruptors", and I suddenly think I understood my reaction... Glass Onion seemed to be his subversion of his own work, it felt to show he IS the disruptor. I just felt like I'd watched a circle-jerk... and the viewer was the target.
I just had to go back and can't believe he really handed him the glass. It was my only problem with the movie thinking "he clearly put it on the table the first time, this is just to confuse the audience", but NO .... damn!
The killer was so obvious once you realised who was dead and who not. I got it evidence wise when the twin sister got the new notif on Andy's phone that andy's death got out, and I instantly put together that David Batista got the same alert and he showed it to Ed Norton
Based off the trailers I though I would like Glass Onion better, but I watched them back to back and I actually liked the original a lot more. I thought the mystery and it not being a murder was a cool twist and Ana de Armas performance felt more true to the character.
I enjoyed how this one made it pretty obvious who the potential victim and and killer were up until someone actually did get killed halfway into the movie and then the reveal regarding the murder(s) so then you had to figure out who really killed who for what reasons. Most of the time you could guess who might very been the killer but they kept the motives and mystery really well hidden until the end. Especially without having someone dead within the first 10 minutes. Even though Whodunnits are generally who is the killer - I like that this movie focused more beyond than who did and more the why and how of the different murders
Such a good second watch. If it had a longer run at theaters, tickets would have sold tons on repeat viewings alone! You could see the phone in his back pocket if you were looking for it!
Ummm there are ranges to southern accents and Janelles was just fine. It reminded me of my cousin and I instantly loved it. Also Andi gets that group off the ground not Miles her mistake was bringing him to the top with her.
I totally enjoyed Janelle Monae performance in fact it reminded me of her personality on stage when she first started performing...quirky. I enjoyed the show.
Knives out is still my favorite of the two. For me the character development is not on the same level; and the commentary felt a little bit too on the nose, although that may be because all of the twitter drama going on rn. It's hard to laugh at the dumb billionaire when you get to see one everyday
I figured out the killer soon as we saw the first death but I went into it thinking janelle didn’t so so good like you said and I just say I disagree she did very well and was the star plus I loved the twist just which the killer reveal was better because I figured it out but that’s because I watch a lot of tv mysteries to be specific, case closed and murder she wrote and play a lot of clue lol I figured it out very easily
Grace when you said you didn't like the first one because no one actually killed anyone, but Fran the house keeper was killed by Huge, she died in hospital thats why he was arrested
I watched this last night and it was so delightful. I liked it better than the first. Just hearing James Bond with that over the top southern accent is priceless. And can we take a moment to acknowledge the costume design, especially for Janelle Monaè and Kate Hudson. Inspired, as was the entire film.
Plus the fact that Kate Hudson does in fact own and fitness clothing company that blew up during the pandemic, her role in this was risky to say the least but she crushed every second she was on screen
Great, Great movie but i saw the twists coming they foreshadowed the Mona Lisa thing the whole movie snd i knew Edward Norton was the murder immediately so for me personally not many surprises, Hugh Grant was a surprise.
I thought the funniest scene in the film was Blanc working out Myles's game instantly. I think it was hilarious. I think this movie is incredible.
Before the "murder" even happened!

I loved when Blanc was fun saying “2010” for the reference for the “my god it’s full of stars” to Columbo Miles Bron.
Literally just finished watching it! PERFECT TIMING!!
Seriously, same! Finished the movie and there’s my notification. haha
Also loved the refference to Batman being the world's greatest detective, and if you see the movie in spanish, Blanc's dialogue changes to "I'm not James Bond"
And Birdy Jay's facemask is identical to one used by Lana Del Rey during the pandemic which brought her a lot of backlash.
Dave Bautista CAN act... ever see him in Blade Runner 2049?!
Yeah when she said that my eyebrow raised...like really?
I caught Miles handing him the glass the first time. Blink and you'll miss it slight of hand. Still pretty clever.
I feel like Janelle's accent is modern day southern accent. But Benoit's is like 1800s accent lol.
love the movie, I feel like I would love it even more if I saw it in theatres but I didn't like how it ended.
19:35 "stoopid with two 'o's'" to quote Chris Evans' character from "Knives Out" lol
The killer did not invite Blank, he invited him self or another way to look at it, the sister of the victim did.
Why did Miles send Andi an invitation if he killed her? And why was he not fazed “Andi” showed up? Wouldn’t he be worried that she knows he tried to kill her?
I really enjoyed Bautista in this movie. He seemed so comfortable in the role.
Daryl's actor was in the first knives out as one of the two detectives and in the dinning room there was a painting of Kanye West on the wall
I didn't like Knives Out but Glass Onion is actually really good. Better humor, plot and acting.
I too saw it in theaters. And loved that we all gasped, laughed, clapped at the snappy Mona Lisa clap back Monae gave to Norton! 👏🏼 👏🏼
Just a great script and acting from everyone!
One of those rare occurrences when the sequel is even better than the original movie.
And that ending!!! Equally heartbreaking and hilarious
Janelle Monae was the MVP, loved kathrynn Hahn but she had very little to do, I hope they do an all star in the final movie bringing back Chris Evans and others
Daniel Craig is married to Rachel Weisz who was Hugh Grant’s love interest in About A Boy. 😎 loved seeing Hugh in this role.
It was my only problem with the movie thinking "he clearly put it on the table the first time, this is just to confuse the audience", but NO .... damn!
Dave Bautista is a good actor, I don’t think your characterization of him is fair. He was excellent in Bladerunner 2049.
I still think the first movie is slightly better but not by a lot! I was very satisfied with this film!!!
I just finished it, wasn’t a huge fan of it but there were definitely a few things I enjoyed
Just finished it. It was so smart and luv the twist. Just wish we had a scene of everyone post island.
You could see the phone in his back pocket if you were looking for it!
you have to watch it fifty times.
Ummm there are ranges to southern accents and Janelles was just fine. It reminded me of my cousin and I instantly loved it. Also Andi gets that group off the ground not Miles her mistake was bringing him to the top with her.
Loved seeing this in theaters! One of the few movies my whole family agreed to watch together.
Both movies is fantastic but for me KNIVES OUT is more fun and the final reveal is more satisfiying than GLASS ONION.
I totally enjoyed Janelle Monae performance in fact it reminded me of her personality on stage when she first started performing...quirky. I enjoyed the show.
I liked this more than the original knives out. To me, it was obvious who the killer was in 'knives out'. Both great!!
Was lucky enough to see this on a big screen. Hands down favourite of 2022.
Birdie thinking that a sweat shop made sweat pants was genuis🤣🤣🤣
Check out Rutina Wesley’s accent on True Blood. She uses the same southern accent, which is much more Louisiana than southern bell.
the whole time I thought it was Claire because It's been Agatha all along
I enjoyed it better than the first Knives Out but it isn’t as good as Grace says. 3 out of 5 is my score.
Plus the fact that Kate Hudson does in fact own and fitness clothing company that blew up during the pandemic, her role in this was risky to say the least but she crushed every second she was on screen
I saw this in theaters it was great. Can’t wait to rewatch it tomorrow
Great, Great movie but i saw the twists coming they foreshadowed the Mona Lisa thing the whole movie snd i knew Edward Norton was the murder immediately so for me personally not many surprises, Hugh Grant was a surprise.
For part 3, the twist should be that Benoit is somehow involved in the murder plot and he has incentive to convince others it was somebody innocent.
