I've got over 4,000 hours at night, in one AC690, N9166N. She was my first love. But man could she SCREAM! Those 331's were obnoxiously loud from the outside. I was just happy to have the bleed air heat and pressurization flying cancelled checks from BOS to JFK to DET and back every night. The winters were brutal out there on the windy ramps loading/unloading it, one bag at a time. But it was time well spent, building great experience for a 19-23 year old kid.
This video is top notch. Why? Mind blowing Rockwell engines standing out while there are breathtaking, hilly, relaxing views of hot and sweet Texas. It's as if the Dash 8 and the Grand Caravan, the plane had done it with it a MU 2.
Recall that it was President Eisenhower's preferred domestic travel airplane, especially after his heart surgery. The Gettysburg airport has a gallery of photos of his admiration of the aircraft.
Don't let if fool you, you can park them in pretty rough strips if need be. Lots of them are still being flogged by kids building hours flying bush here in Australia.
Flew into Lakeway once in 1975. Got picked up and taken to a place to have brunch then flew out later. Nice memories.
My best friend flew one of these for a while. It is a great airplane.
Thnaks for not inserting any irritating, annoying, loud background MUSIC.
TPE331 is a loud engine, and very powerful for its size and weight. There's not just shaft horsepower but some residual thrust from the exhaust.
It is loud. The loudest turbo-proop I've heard in person.

Tim Bohan ... I am a retired A&P/IA and I refused to work on the screaming banshee. That sound makes me physically ill.
One man's death noise is this man's Song of the Sirens . . .
@@happysawfish True words, sir!
You don't remember how old you were?? You were 19-23 years old?
@@cloudstreets1396 read again what mr.Bohan wrote then try to think about it before you post.

Backyard golf course and private airstrip all in one. Now that's living large in Texas.
Another example of the genius of Ted Smith!

Very similar to the sound of the ATR 42-300/320 ATR 72-200/201/202/210/212 and Dash 8-100/200/300, Xian MA60
Turbo COMANDER FRIend .....👍👍👍👍
fuselage looks so low on these planes, but beautiful just the same
I think makes them so sexy looking. Like a sports car of the air.
Low on the ground, beautiful in the air. A great design.

Did you had to cover your ears because of its loudness?
Turbo Commander
Actually a Commander 840.

Attention commenter Altenholtz, The Lockheed Super Constellation was frequently used by President Eisenhower.
