Yeah, ESP really needs to work on their naming conventions... actually a lot of manufacturers do. I don't like when they name shit like it's a BMW. "Today we're looking at the ESP LTD 328Xi 4motion GHB-100240".
I've watched 5 or 6 of your videos so far, I'm really enjoying your style, no messing around informative demos with some comedy elements thrown in. What's not to like!
A StingRay has its pickup 5 inches back from the base of the neck, which gives it that sound. Tight but more of a rock sound. This is a good starting point for the Ray.
Amazing demos. One thing about the stingray pickup comp: You have black beauties on the stingray, which I personally love, they seem to eliminate some of the unwanted top end and give a more uniform tone throughout. Though they may bit a bit dim in many mixes they are great in solo settings. I think a fair bit of the difference lies in that but you can clearly tell how good overall the strings do in a slap/pluck style.
Its pretty but.... Not a wish I had one bass. Your stingray sounds really nice. Do a nice long review on the walnut Rickenbacker. Thank you for sharing. Have a wonderful week lobster.
Yeah, that's a really good-sounding bass with killer looks! It looks a lot like the old Carvin Bunny Brunel bass. Nope, it doesn't sound like a StingRay. Other than the PRS Gary Grainger Bass( which sounds like a StingRay and a Ken Smith to my ears), nothing comes close to the StingRay tone that I know of. How about a review of a PRS Gary Grainger?
I have been looking at too many of these videos, they are great tho. Wait... is that... a GN shirt? Finally someone who is thinking about the important things. Like how to cool a hot pick up with liquid nitrogen.
Hehe, yes! Huge fan of Steve and GN. I kind of model my channel after them by keeping a level playing field and letting the results (sound clips) and my own impressions speak for themselves. My goal is to provide as much info as possible so folks can make informed buying decisions. It's harder with instruments vs computer parts (I love building PCs too haha) because there are so many concrete metrics, where an instrument is a bit more subjective... but I try :). Thank you for the comment and I'm so glad you're enjoying the vids!
Thanks and great question! This video is really early in the channel and had DR Black Beauties, however I currently use MJC Ironworks nickel plated stainless steel 45-105 on my stingrays.
Great comment! I believe it was carried over from what I remember. I definitely plan on revisiting this bass (well a different example but same model) and going into more detail. This was one of my VERY early videos where I was still finding my flow and format :)
Thanks for the Demo but no demonstration of the low B. In fact I didn't see the low B get played at all which is kind of an important thing to me. Low B response is vital to 5 string basses strung B E A D G. So, low B? and how does it sound on the bass?
Yeaaaaaaah this was a really really early video, probably first dozen or so for the channel. The lack of info in this early review is a great reason to revisit this bass!
I bet if you took out some 400 hz with the mid control you'd get pretty close to the music man sound. Thanks for this great video. How much does this bass weigh?
Did you say this 5-string bass has a Hipshot Low D Xtender tuner? If so, does that mean the BB-1005 is built for E•A•D•G•C? I was under the impression it’s a B•E•A•D•G bass. BTW great product review! I enjoyed your playing too - as always. Thx!
@@oil_can I've gotten good results with the Sadowsky blue label nickel strings (best strings in the world IMHO), 45-130 gauge. Make sure to get the extra long scale if you're going to string through the body.
Thanks for the comment! A little bird told me that you may have a Ric review to enjoy during lunch tomorrow :)... at least that's what I think he said before my feline CFO got him (just kidding, she's a lover not a fighter). Stay tuned!
Sounds good tom araya from slayer playing on 1 of this kind this .from the other side your sting ray and also your mexican fender p .sounds much better
18mm is the spacing, which feels just right to me. I'll be reviewing my Lakland 55-02 this week which has 19mm spacing, 35" scale (as opposed to the 34" on the ESP), but only 22 frets. Stay tuned :).
Hey Edwige! This was an early video, I've definitely gotten better at focusing on the B with 5ers. I'm going to try and do a revisit that's more in depth on this bass in the future :)
This video convinced me to finding and purchasing this bass for a crazy deal. Thanks for the detailed video !
That name is a mouthful. Another great vid!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate that :)
Love the grooves in this vid.
Thanks my friend!
Really nice, not low end at all. I'd like to see a review of an MTD Kingston bass.
Bahahaha "Are you biting me? ... Yeah, you're biting me." I died.
It's because I wouldn't give her a raise :P

Thanks Tommy! I'll be sure to make that Ric review extra long just for you :)
LowEndLobster YES!!!!!! You are so kind. Can’t wait. Cheers
When you started playing I couldn't believe how good that thing sounds! I've owned several 55-02s and none of them sounded this good.
Thanks Kapn! Right? This bass really surprised me with its tone and high quality construction.
The first “pinch that like button” .....damn sea witches and their curses!!!
Over a year later and I have never recovered hahaha
I come here for the cat.
:)
Hey a gamer nexus t! Love it, love the bass too!
Thanks man!
You make me laugh 😂when you did the ocd of the dots ! I almost died laughing ! I have a friend who’s like that !😂

Thanks Keith! I'd looove to get my hands on one of those PRS basses. I might have an avenue for a different high end PRS bass, we shall see!

Just discovered your channel. Love it. Can you tell me what kind of strings you have on your stingray? I just picked one up.
Thanks and great question! This video is really early in the channel and had DR Black Beauties, however I currently use MJC Ironworks nickel plated stainless steel 45-105 on my stingrays.
@@LowEndLobster Thank you...your tone was killer.
Spicy cat! Love it man
Thanks!
I'm not sure if they kept the asymetrical neck on these LTD's compared to his Carvin model. No info online to confirm it.

Great comment! Thanks! This one was about 9.5ish lbs.
Still like the 2nd headless bass from ur last vid
Me too. I might make a follow up vid considering how popular that thing is!
Is that a brass bridge or an aluminum bridge. Someone should do a video on that.
Did you say this 5-string bass has a Hipshot Low D Xtender tuner? If so, does that mean the BB-1005 is built for E•A•D•G•C?

Drop A is a thing that exists, and with the right strings this bass can handle it beautifully.
@@ronbarzilai5705 Nice! Exactly what low string have you put on a BB-1005 to get down to a clear A?

I have to tell you, this vid actually had me laughing out loud.
Fretless version is here: ua-cam.com/video/_5UETgJtaog/v-deo.html
Me likey that bass
Thanks Steve!
Only a stingray sounds like a stingray, but that’s a nice bass. But I’ll take my Lakeland’s any day.
Review the Ric! Review the Ric! :) And the Jack Casady! and the... ;)

7:08 there's a ghost that tries to take your Stingray! Watch out!
Who you gonna call? BASS LOBSTER! Doooo do dooooo do doooooooo do beep baap bada boo!

Why don't you ever play the B string? People are interested in how it sounds! Actually, it's a 5 STRING BASS!

Hmmmmmmmmmm , not so sure on this one.
Hahaha yeah this is oooold
As a UA-cam Reviewer, are the basses tax-deductible??? :D
That's a very good question
No it doesn’t sound like a Stingray
Definitely not a Carvin
This bass was disappointing
