I wish I had an easy fix for you but sanding or stripping is the way to go. Maybe start with sanding with fine grit sandpaper and see if that removes the brush marks first. Was the sealer old? I have found that with the water based sealers, if you don't air tight seal them 100% after use, they will dry out and the next time you use them they will create brush strokes.
How do you keep the furniture from streaking? I painted a dresser flat black and put polycrylic on top and you can see all the strokes. I used a brush, sanded, a sponge brush sanded, still streaks everywhere
This happened to me too and it was because the sealer product was not sealed properly and had gone bad. Could this possibly be why yours is streaking too?
I'm painting a bathroom vanity/sink with chalk paint. Its gonna be hight traffic but I want it to still have the chalky/matte look to it after finished so would have to wax it and then put the polycrylic or just put the polycrylic only and no wax? And also would i use the matte polycrylic and just do a few coats?
Rule of thumb; you can put wax over poly but you can't put poly over wax. Always let wax be the final coat. That being said, if you are painting a high traffic area and want a matte finish- I would use three good coats of clear Polycrylic.
You can use an oil based top coat like a regular old Polyurethane. Just know it might yellow over time (this won't be good if you have a light colored paint). Otherwise this product; amzn.to/3cwSOqz - water based polycrylic is great and shouldn't yellow over time. That being said, this top coat won't be quite as durable as the oil based poly.
More than likely yes. Every table and every finish is a little different. Test a small area first. You might want to use a liquid sandpaper product or light sand to make sure the new sealer sticks.
So for a chalk painted chair I could skip the wax and just do the polycrylic? Thanks for your videos, this is a first for me redoing a dinning table and chairs and your videos have been super helpful!

Hello, I used a flat matt water based paint for my dresser, I applied a finishing wax last year and found that it discoloured the paint and one of regular used drawers marked up with finger prints and make up, not east to clean off. I have removed the wax and given the dresser a fresh coat of paint, I am now looking for a good sealant, the polycrylic in matt sounds good but not sure I can get hold of it in the UK, can you suggest any other brands or would the semi gloss be okay? just don't want to ruin the matt finish. thanks Char
Polycrylic comes in different finishes including semi gloss and it doesn't yellow or discolor paint over time. I would be shocked if you can't find it in the UK. Let me know if you can't and I can do a little digging.
Semi gloss or satin finish has very little shine the reason i want matte is a I purchased entertaiment center that ia matte it has no shine at all and I love very natural looking pieces I dont even want wood to have even coat of stain want the color to look natural not bare wood going to use colored stain but want to go on natural

It is the most natural looking top coat that has no shine that I've found.
@@RepurposeandUpcycle I'll have to see where they sell it close buy
I painted my kitchen and bathroom cabinets with Behr enamel paint I was expecting to dry in to a hard surface but instead it’s very easy to scratch with even finger nails or even a towel when cleaning, will this product helm harden the surface of my kitchen cabinets, it’s been 3 months and they are all cured now
Yes you can! I'm not sure it will harden the surface but hopefully help protect from scratches.
I heard it would yellow? So I don't know how to deal either. Because mine is scratching off too.
I painted my kitchen cabinets grey matt but i want a glossy finish can i use this
Yes I don't see why not
thank you for this awesome video! very clear descriptions. easy to understand for a beginner like me!
Great! Glad it was a help.
I am doing a vanity top in our master bathroom. Which do you recommend?
I would definitely use the Polycrylic Satin
I'm making coffee table out of unfinished pine crates going to stain and want a very natural look and no shine any suggestions

Yeah. Bin it, work harder & buy a real coffee table! 😉😂
@@drchunkybiscuit9973 I can afford a coffee table I enjoy making things
Very well explained , thank you very much.
Polycrilic is my least favorite topcoat, it yellows over time and it’s not as durable as it claims to be, general finishes high performance topcoat is definitely my favorite it’s a little bit more money but you get what you pay for I like to apply it with a large round damp sponge.
I've never had any issues with it yellowing. I agree that General Finishes top coat is amazing!
Exactly the video I needed!!! Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Is the Polycrylic safe to use for a baby crib?
I would say no because there are harmful chemicals in it.
How long do you wait after you've painted to apply your Polycyclic?
I would follow the paint instructions as to how long to let it dry before applying sealer.
I have applied 2 coats of flat paint and have chosen poly acrylic as a top coat. Do you recommend a drying time? Do I have to wait weeks for it to cure? Thanks. Loved your video.
It says wait 24 hours before you can use it. It's a fairly fast drying/curing product.
This was so helpful! Thank you
Can i spray paint my furniture then use clear gloss enamel then go over it with polyurethane
You can definitely spray paint your furniture and then use polyurethane on top.
Repurpose and Upcycle thank you 😊
No.
