We did 3 months on $2500 and lived very well. Cambodia was the highlight of cheapness, we find a hostel for $2 USD per night, private room, plus meals from around 50c.
Love the video!! Southeast Asia is super affordable! We taught English in Thailand and made around 700 a month and lived comfortably. In Vietnam we worked online and made about 2000 a month and lived like Kings!
you could take plane's in the Philippine's if you want to, but there are a ton of ferry ride's the locals take to hop between islands. It's usually cheaper and more fun. One more thing, a smile in SouthEast Asia is probably one of the best things you could give to a local.
7 years ago i visited cambodia and street foods were about 50cents. but if u visit on downtown it doesnt cost less than america lol.... (especially the place where for trevales)
I pay -3 dollar per night on hostels in Cambodia, 3 dollars in Thailand and Laos, and less than 6 dollars in Vietnam. I spend less than 10 dollars in Bali. Your accommodations in Bali looks so awesome. Amazing, how Bali can be that cheap and yet so fantastic. Most touristic islands in the Philippine don't have cheap hostels.
Pretty cool to get some insight on how the budget could look like. I was originally planning to backpack New Zealand this February, but it felt more tempting to visit Indonesia as I started to look more into it. NZ is also more similar to my country (Norway), and I'd rather see something completely different when I go backpacking. Your video made it clear that South-Asia is where I want to explore. If 500 - 1000 USD a month is the standard monthly budget, I can almost travel a year with the same budget I had planned for two months in New Zealand! Thank you mate, you earned a sub. :)
swdoffa thanks for the sub and for watching. Yes, Southeast Asia will be a TON cheaper than NZ. If you're on a budget and have the time to travel longer. I'd say try SÈ Asia first. You can do much much more with your dollar
@@AlexanderTravelbum from what I've red on the internet some places are $3 / night. And they also have hotels for $200. My thought was who the hell stays thier.. foren government personnel?? $200 in that part of the world.. ya avoid. And can you find a random place for less then $10 by just showing up?
@swdoffa hey man, I am in exactly the same boat as you were in. I was set on travelling in NZ as a working holiday for a few months from Jan next year before I go to europe but i feel like it is very similiar to my own home country which is australia. Im now thinking more and more going to SE asia. I am just wondering did you enjoy your travels their? I am 18 and just finished high school so that is a factor.
This is awesome! I find that traveling on a budget always leads to more authentic, unexpected adventures off the beaten path that are very special. Thanks for the tips!
A little tip in Bangkok or other major cities in asia. When in a taxi, tell them to use the metre. Never agree for a set price. If they refuse threaten to walk out and find another, and if they still dont put it on get a different taxi.

Some tips about Bali after our 2 months vacation there... use online online taxis GoJack anf Grab (download both and compare the prices), don't eat at fency restaurants, the food is not much better and the prices are double. If you are not in a hurry don't book villas and hotels in adavance - you can go to hotels and privite villas and bargin..we managed to decrease by 20% the price of 2 hotel rooms. Always bargin when you can do it..basically you can't bargin only at supermarkets and malls. Everywhere else you need to to do your best and never buy whatever you want from the first place..try few places and don't be scared to offer very low prices..you will be surprised that sometimes it really works..no matter if it is fruit to boat tickets
your tips are exactly what we experienced through the world. it is great that you took the time to tell and share them. have a great day, where ever you are.
Good info! I've done a lot of traveling in Asia and some parts of it actually has Uber now. Which is great and very cheap compared to taxi's. Especially taking one from the airport to your hotel or wherever you are staying. Plus, they can't change the price on you. Just a tip for people you will be traveling to Asia or anywhere for that matter. Check if they have it available first.
Yes, solid advice Alexander Travelbum. 500$/m is very do-able, even including flights. The beers are great, so cheap! Just depends on how many beers you have haha :)
Hey Budgeteers, very true. Thanks for the comment. I’ve been watching you for a while now, since before I traveled to Asia last year. Glad to see you here on my channel. Loved your stuff. Cheers!
I love SEA. It is truly heaven for a budget traveller. I am retiring in six months and can’t wait to hit the road. Thanks for this. I just found your channel and subscribed. Such a good source of info. Street food is the bomb. It’s mostly what I eat. And I will be checking out Agoda. Peace and love and happy travels. ☮️🇨🇦

I loved the video, today I'm doing an exchange in Ireland and before going back to Brazil I'm going to do a backpacking in Southeast Asia, here in Ireland I work 20 hours a week and to save some money, my idea is to save £ 3000 thousand euros, plus or minus $ 3500 dollars, and try to spend the maximum of months knowing the Asia.
Glad to hear that, you can definitely travel in Southeast Asia for quite a while with a few thousand dollars. Just be smart, plan ahead, and avoid the expensive things!
i just did a video like this a week or so ago. love yours! do you think you could travel cheaper? we seem to notice are monthly spendings around 400$ but we are also traveling as a couple
Thanks for your tips dude! Great vid, I mean you could almost assume all these things, but it's still great to hear it from an expert haha. :-) Leaving in 4 days! Excited for the upcoming months, I might check out your profile a lil more!
Absolutely! But I'm gonna check out more when I'm on the road. Kinda enjoying the last days home differently, but I'm pretty sure your content holds so much more great things, as I already saw a bit. Where are you at right now? Still traveling in Europe, right?
It all holds some great stuff! Haha. I think almost each video shows something very interesting I found in a place. Right now in France, have about 20 videos to upload soon all throughout
Couldn't have found this video at a better time! Leaving for 6 months in Asia on the 4th of January! My only concern is that I will have to avoid cheap food due to my peanut allergy...:(
Awesome! I didn’t really provide names of my hostels and hotels. I should have kept track. Is that what you mean? For names of hostels or like a how-to about hostels?
I've used to cycle and tent around Europe. I was able to go around 250 USD a month, but it's thought. I was cooking on my own and I was cycling all the time. Almost all nights were spent in tents, some on Couch Surfing. It's an awesome lifestyle.
Great video. Appreciate the insights. Most websites I visited suggested it would be around 1050/mo minimum. 1500/mo to do it more comfortably. 500/mo sounds really low, but possible
Many good tips man! The domestic flights are super cheap in almost every country in the southeast. I Just got back from a crazy good trip in Southeast Asia where I shot my very first Travel film. Feel free to check it out and be sure to ask me if you wanna know some good destination in Asia!
