I'd just like to add that I have had success keeping water in ponds and pots clear by adhering to a roughly 60-65% cover of the surface area with plants. Too much sun (here in New Zealand) is usually the cause of any problems. A combination of in-pond and surface plants and some shade provided by marginals is the secret.
@@DevonPondPlants thanks for reply - looking at stocking rate for my pond - it's 3.5m x 2.5m with a 60cm well in the middle. How many plants should I be looking at having with a new pond?

Very, very informative.
A well thought out and planned presentation 👍.

Vary useful thanks
Are oxygenating plants such as hornwort great at keeping the water clear?
Yes, they all help by removing excess dissolved nutrients but are only part of the solution.

Don't! They are an important part of the pond ecosystem
