When we went to Portugal a couple of months back, one of the three of us knew Spanish, and you're right Portuguese is different, but she watched some videos in Portuguese when she knew we were going, and it helped a lot. Then we went to Morocco and one of us spoke French so that helped us a lot (knowing French or Arabic from my understanding) It's a good idea to at least start learning some of the basics of a native language if English is not widely spoken. If it had not been for them, I would have been at a lost to getting around. And as in Brazil, you just have to be watchful of pick pocketers and people trying to distract you. That's everywhere you go these days.
Team Asha here, you do so well being informative and also influence others around you. Thank you all the gems and authentic opinions. Shout out to Asha and her friends.
And no, it really isn't that dangerous, it's relatively safe for the average tourists actually, just have basic awareness, people exaggerate massively, even some paranoid locals, it's statistically safer than at least 40 major US cities, including Las Vegas, Washington D.C or Phoenix, and that includes the "bad areas", which are all far, far away from where any regular tourist ever goes to

• I find it so funny how people laugh and how society always tries to paint black people as thieves, jokes, inferiors, etc. And here we have black people in a different part of the world where you have "non-black people" willing to walk up to you and rob you in plain sight. They look at these people as "acceptable thieves," and nobody says a word about them being all these things. • It’s only when it’s a black person that does things that aren’t considered human or wild animals. I get so tired of people trying to make black people the 🍑 of the joke, yet nobody calls these other races of people out for the things they do and gets condemned for their actions. I’m glad this was recorded just for people to speak on this topic. • It’s never a good feeling when you have to wake up and be looked at in such a derogatory way just because of your skin tone. And don’t any of you "white lives matter" folks come under my comment, adding your irrelevant 2 cents in on something that doesn’t concern you, although y’all are the reason behind the prejudice sh*t that black people go through and have gone through.

If you’re unlucky you can get robbed and if you try resist it you risk being killed but this also happens here in London
