However i will admit to having a hard time playing it as Gangrel are one of the only clans with abilities perfectly suited to just leave if they don't like things. Which can make it tough to stay if the grass is looking greener elsewhere. Nevertheless were I to be embraced, gangrel is most appealing. I like my freedom and not having a sire breathing down my neck is very appealing.

That's interesting, I never thought about that. I think it would help to have a different approach to character building. Maybe just try thinking of different kinds of people it would be interesting seeing adapt to life as Gangrel. Not trying to sound like an expert, I'm just spitballing as someone who's never gotten the chance to play in the tabletop yet but loves the setting lol

Just be careful as they can be mixed bags. As for writing characters it is more my frustration as an ST than anything. I have written gangrel who will never leave a city. But often I see them written as kindred who hate the politics and just want to leave. Which makes for a less than stellar coterie cohesion.

I really enjoy the historical overview and the dutiful mention of all clan factions in these Lore/Culture videos. Keep it going! You mention some very interesting and useful lore from V20 which fot the most part can be applied to V5, or can inform the background of a V5 character!

If a City Gangrel was taught the disciplines used by the other types of Gangrel, would it be the same as if they used it naturally, or would it be the same as if another clan was taught it? I.e Gangrel are tied with Protean, and their forms are varied, but if a Gangrel taught a non-Gangrel Protean, they could only turn into a bat and wolf, which seems to be the default, as a malkavian raised someone to be unaware of the existence of wolves, and they still turned into one once taught protean
I think you're onto something here, for sure. City Gangrel stand out mostly because of their disciplines and for more often manifesting urban animal traits, so it's quite possible they're not *actually* a bloodline like, say, the Daughters of Cacophony, since they aren't *that* different from their parent clan.

I have a question that has been bothering me about the Gangrel clan ever having since read The Clan novel where Ramona was embraced by Tanner and then left on her own without a guide as a sort of trial by fire Gangrel tradition that you have mentioned also in your videos. Whether Gangrel be independent, Camarilla at the time, or Anarchs, wouldn't this be a large threat to the Masquerade? Whenever a vampire sires and abandons a childe without the blessing of the prince, doesn't the Camarilla usually step in and destroy the childe not only because of the tenet, but also because the childe, unsupervised, would be a threat to the masquerade? So...why do the Gangrel do it? It seems counter to the Masquerade to me. I'm curious if you have any insight in the lore that explains it. Logically, a vampire not knowing that they're a vampire and running around guideless would probably draw attention of the mortal world to the existence of the kindred.
Hi! Sorry for not getting back to this question until now! So, you're actually giving the answer in your second comment here. Gangrel sires will first follow their future childer for quite a while, sizing them up and figuring out if they can handle the pressure of being thrust into this new situation. After the embrace, they will generally leave them be and see if they can "figure shit out on their own." Of course, if their childe is going to be a potential Masquerade breach they will intervene, as will they should their childe accidentally stumble into a situation that could get them killed unintentionally, like with Ramona and the Sabbat. That being said, most Gangrel will usually pick people who are comfortable being loners to begin with. Even so, this is of course just generalization. Some sires will be there the whole time, others might appear the first night and teach them the fundamentals before leaving, etc. They will usually still need to get permission from a Prince before embracing, but the Gangrel have some leeway because they tend to be pretty good about upholding the Masquerade and they're good grunts for the Ventrue and Toreador.
I think I'd prefer to be a city Gangrel over a regular, probably add an additional discipline either animalism or celerity using the Greek Gangrel route with a background being a Greek immigrant embraced me and it turns out that they had their mortal family ghouled for the last 2,000 years or so ...essentially ... A Greek Gangrel with animalism additional discipline, high generation but relatively recently embraced probably trying to make a territory as a Autark but then choosing a side recently as idk sabbat or camerilla kept attacking people who live on the block

I love my Clan warriors and beasts monsters of myth and legend. poets and storytellers. lovers of the land and sea. we roam where we wish sleep in caves and some time the very breast of mother earth shelters us from the sun. we are the envy of all other clans for we do not fear our beast but run with it . we live our unlives instead of cowering from it. que we are the champions by Queen.

I know im late and i don't know why but out of all the clans i felt a connection to the Gangrel more so over the other clans.
So if many Gangrel were soldiers sired on the battlefield, does that make them... dogs of war?
