DCS: Discussion about my bases

- What is up guys. I wanted to explain some things about what is happening with my bases that I have uploaded to DCS USER FILES for everyone to download. I wanted to let my Warbirds guys know that if they have downloaded a base that I made from the user files, some of you will notice that they will not work if you open them as static template. In this video is a quick suggestion on how to fix them, or you guys can wait til I download VERSION 2 of the bases because the airfields in Normandy2 map have all been fixed.
I also have maps with custom bases all over the place. Especially on the Syrian map. The last update they tossed in like a hundred helo bases across the map and even the existing ones they really increased the level of detail and static objects. I will take real photos and videos from historical archives and try to duplicate them. When we got all the new static structures from M92 it really increased my base building. You can also find many 3rd party mods for aircrew and static objects that are so realistic. It's what makes DCS so addicting and fun.

Thanks again for all your efforts on the FOBs. I looked at your Persian Gulf base recently and realised instantly that the missing items were part of the massun files change. Your time and skill in designing and building these files is really appreciated and I’m delighted that you will be fixing your bases following the change. I know hand placing items takes some time, especially the numbers of items we see on your fobs - so I (like many people) remain very grateful that you share these for everyone to enjoy.
You are doing an amazing job, and you have no reason to explain your process. You are doing this as your zen and do things most have no idea how to do. Keep up the amazing work. You are doing these things with your own time. Please continue to make these bases. Please continue your attention to detail. Please. Besides that your time is free, you are not charging us for your amazing time and work. Thank you.

As we say in the UK more power to your elbow! A fantastic effort all round and superb enhancement to our hobby. Thanks is such a small word for such a large amount of time.
Your WW2 bases are brilliant, second to none, really. The files being miz files is NO hassle whatsoever because, like you say, we can do whatever we want from all the statics and that is, well, futureproof!
I know what you mean about 'zen time' because I use skinning in exactly the same way, no matter WHO likes them or not.

Had no idea about your bases or content but this has been one of the most relaxing videos I've watched😂
you made this beautifully and put it together, great 🤗 I also make bases for myself in a 24-hour mission that lasts by itself, from which you attack other bases and defend against counterattacks from air attacks and ground units, everything is set on triggers in 24 hourly time, day and night, and the player can choose the side of vehicles or planes, helicopters and participate in the battle itself

I really need to make my own bases too, I loved doing that in Arma 3, but I no longer play that game, and got more into DCS lately. Yours look great! Shame about the issues, but that is gaming, things can break down sadly, but o well, never let it stop from building more awesome stuff!

@Mr.Goodnite44 - there's a different way than manually replacing all models. The MIZ file is a Zip-Archive. Inside, there is a file called mission.
You can extract that, edit and replace it in the MIZ file easily.
In fact this is a LUA script, defining the complete mission, from coalitions, weather and object placements to triggers, actions and zones.
The definition of all those original Massun 93 pack should be replaceable by the new integrated M92 asset definitions. Basically a carefully thought out "find and replace" per each object reference.
If it is about a dozen objects, it's likely easier to replace them manually, but if you have hundreds of barriers, walls etc. in a mission it may be worth to look into the mission file.

Great stuff man. I'll never do this myself but I am curious as to how exactly do you place assets down so precisely??? lol In the ME even when you zoom in it just doesn't seem practical to do. I'd think having something like a CitySkyline/Planet Zoo style of being in the world and just dropping assets in, changing orientations/placements would be the most practical way to do this stuff in DCS but they don't support that, unless I'm missing something?

Asset Packs Could be a Huge Money Makers for DCS but they act like they cant see this fact. I would buy far more Asset packs that were Core then Maps and maybe I would even buy more Sand Maps. I would be happy to stop using Mods to map missions that others don't want to use because they don't have that mod. Yada Yada Yada. So Keep up the Good Work Thank You for this Video.
You bases are great and when we created ASTI with Miguel I really wanted to use your beautiful FOBS with this tool to import them on every map... Alas you used mods and I know that when we will want to use those templates for MP all users will need to load those mods :( . Please, please can you make few FOBS with only cores objects to avoid this ? It would be really cool and make them usable everywhere without mods with ASTI ;)
I did one base that did not occupy mods........I hated creating that base because there are not a lot of ASSETS that is VANILLA and it took me a long time to do. I play single player so my bases are for people who plays the game as single player. I do not like to use VANILLA objects to create a base because there are not a lot of objects that we need that ED does not supply.....yet.

ASTI can be used to import your beautiful FOBS and FARPS when they are not too integrated to the existing maps geography but I inderstand that it doesn't interest you because its creation your main pleasure :) I will still enjoy your great creations, thanks again :)
I'm wondering if there is a way to automate the replacement process. Isn't most of it stored as some kind of text file? Backwards compatibility really should be top priority for anyone making asset packs
Hello, Just wanted to express my appreciation for sharing your templates, they are great for immersion and can't imagine the amount of man-hours that you have dedicated to them ... thank you so much for sharing. Also, for my own Templates I keep the MIZ file I used to create them, that way I can always update them if the need arises. In my opinion it is best to keep sharing the Tamplates as MIZ files and let the user save them as STM. So, thanks again and will look forward to your Normandy 2 templates ... also, can you tell me where I can get those Mods for the Hurricane and B-24? they look really nice. Cheers.

A question: could the assets in those STL's be replaced by opening the file in a text based editor?
If that's possible the "missing" assets could potentially be replaced with a text string exchange to the new asset name.
Did you try and look if that's a possibility?

Those bases look amazing! I don't have nearly the patience for doing detailed work like that. Shame about the problems after the update, it's always unfortunate if updates of this kind aren't fully backwards compatible.
I'd like an analysis of how the performance is, though, especially in VR - lots of static objects around your bases could cause FPS issues? Would you need to build bases differently to optimize them?

@@piolin23000 THAT is my favorite airfield ever. It is a logistic base that I did in Sinai. But i did not upload that one because it involves triggers.
Hi ! Is it technicaly possible without too many work, to transpose the airfields made for the map " the channel" in the Normandy 2 map, like Biggin hill in exemple ?
Unfortunalety no, we cannot. I wish in M.E. that they had that funtionality.

Just one thing: It's not necessary to add 3 infantry soldier behind each DCA or Flak piece for working ( I've made the try). Just 2 german infantry are necessary to use the optic visor system for the flaks 41or 38. One behind the visor and one to take care of the generator ( I havn't made the try without them).
Thanks too for giving us the links for having AI axis and allies planes and the Lancaster. A WWII missions without the sinistral stuka dive bomber, let me an inachevied taste in the mouth.
if only dcs could not choke to death and become lag incarnate when i load all your bases on a given map...as it stands my rig likes using one base at a time

@@MrGoodnite44 Thanks very much. For us new people, can you describe how to use the masses you create? There are templates, and where are addon files needed to use your bases. What is a template, vs mission file? How do I use a template vs a mission file? How do I place one of your bases on a map?

Hello, I am working on a light (not milsim) A-4 campaign, fully scripted and with a ton voiceovers that I will release for free. I already have the first an the 7th mission. I need to complete some strike missions, could I use some of your creations? Well if you want you could also participate

@ would you have any interest in working on a “ww2 Guadalcanal” mission base and campaign? I’m trying to find someone to work with. I think the Mariana’s map would work. I just finished reading a couple books on the early marine aviators on Guadalcanal and I really think it would make for some great missions. I think the bases you’re building would really add
to the effect.
