Purvis Short Rainbow Jumper Compilation

- One of the forgotten scorers of the 80's and the guy with probably the highest arching jump shot ever. Pure artistry in my opinion. Sadly there is not a lot of his footage available but I somehow managed to squeeze out 20 minutes of highlights.

Purvis Short is one of the most unknown and underrated shooters/scorers in NBA history. The Warrior teams weren't all that good and were always overshadowed by the great Laker dynasty during that era. The Warriors should retire his jersey if they haven't already done so.
Strongly agreed 👍
Any time I shoot a rainbow because someone is taller than me and I make it, I say: "PURVIS SHORT!" and then the youngsters ask what the heck I'm saying, then I show them this video.
Miguel Almanza
Purvis Short...that's a name ai haven't heard in decades. As a 22 yr old watched him play many times when he was with the Warriors. Man time has passed.
When he was a kid his dad would hold up a broom in front of purvis and he had to learn how to shoot over it. True story
When I was in my senior year of H.S. in 1975, coach let us play BBall in the gym during a PE class and a couple of the varsity team's players were standing in front of the stage. I buried my Nick Weatherspoon copycat jumper from his spot (above the foul line in the circle) and proceeded to mimic the Capital Center PA announcer with his "SSPPOOOOONNNN". The players cracked up. Good memories.
Purvis was a classmate and a good friend of mine,he was definitely unsung
Great to hear the to the greatest basketball announcer I ever heard, Bill King.
How could I possibly have forgotten World B. Free? His shots did come down with snow, rain, and hail quite often.
thanks for the effort of putting these highlights together bro-he was one of my favorites-i had the honor of meeting him at the 7-11 right around the corner of my house in Campo Ramos-Hayward ,CA
and this is Joseph Lopez under my kids' acct.
By gawd that shot is beautiful.
This my uncle
Guys like Purvis, Chambers, Ellis. Great scorers you never hear anything about. Can't believe he didn't make at least one all-star team. Especially 85. I know his team wasn't good but he was unstoppable. Didn't he put 60 on somebody?
Great touch too nothing but the bottom of the net with all that defense all over purvis
I love this guy. Had season tix during his time w/ Dubs- rough years but a whole lotta fun!
Bad team or not dude was a sniper 😎😎
This is awesome... and as much as I love seeing the Purvis Short footage, it's the joy of hearing the incomparable Bill King call a game for the first segments of the video. Thanks for that!!
Couldn't have said it better.
He fiddles and diddles, diddles and fiddles
I tell people all the time Bill King was the best and that includes Chick Hearn of the Lakers.
LOVE hearing Bill King call Purvis's shots.
Would star in today's NBA
Thanks Purvis Short
please send my regards to him, he was truly a great! :)
purvis parish and wold b use high arch shot and have great point per shot
damn...pops got video's on youtube...never seen em...
wow this is great footage!
Klay Thompson has a sweet shooting stroke but don't sleep on Purvis Short! He had that mid-range money shot.
This was like Demar Derozan in the 80's. Same number even...
He could shoot like crazy, but that was about it - defense, rebounding, playmaking were an afterthought to Purvis - the J was a thing of beauty though, I remember a game where he hit 6 three pointers in the first half alone!!!

Just great, so smooth, Purvis is so underrated
A pure shooter with that rainbow jumper!
The very reason I stop playing 🏀 real deal you just knew NBA bound
imo only World B. Free and Parish are up there, off the top.. Not putting Bird there because his regular jumper wasn't quite like theirs but he could high-arc his shot like few else and still hit it in bunches.
He had a nice shot, I remember he had a 50 point game, just realized it was actually a 59 pt game!!!
My man was $$$ off that right wing jumper 😂. #raindrops
Purvis Short's problem was that he played for some really bad Warriors teams. So he didn't get the attention he might of deserved.
Mid range killer
Only a few names come to mind that could rival Purvis's rainbow. Darrell Griffith, Robert Parish, Isiah Thomas,...Even Larry Bird could get them up there---like in his 60 point game against Atlanta.
That's silk.
2k brought me here but that pump crazy lol 😂 mid rang pull up shorty I be there at 2 lol 😂
always got his feet set ... rarely off balance ... what a beautiful shot
High draft pick, ask the kid from French Lick…
He’s like a midrange Klay Thompson
Loved Purvis back in the day. That high, arching shot...
I'll admit to some cognitive dissonance watching these highlights -- a lot of 16 and 18 footers. It's strange to watch in 2023, when it looks like he could take a step back and get a 3. I know that's not how the game was played in that era, but it feels strange.
Did he do anything besides shoot mid ranges? No post game, driving game or dunking from what I have seen.
Short was a great scorer. Very unsung
Love it!
Beautiful shot.
2k22 MyTeam brought me here.
Great shooter,i remember in 1987 in one tour of nba team in spain (Orlando wooldridge, blackman, eaton;reggie theus)
Who dat? ;-)
Great video. Only World B. Free rivaled this guy for the high arcing jumpers.
Was a great shooter but was very soft. If he stepped up his defensive skills he would've become a true legend.
That jumper was pure
Jeff Van Gundy
so did barnard king
Imo, he is the only player with an argument for being better than Jordan. In fact, I would probably rank Short over Jordan. MJ just played in a bigger market, had flashier dunks, and had ESPN hype, but Short was better at playing basketball
lol was thinking the same thing
No one from back then is as great as players today. There is no illegal defense in today's game.
His baseline jumper was a thing to behold!
"Purvis... you got one job...One Job!" - LOL!!
short should be in the hall of fame
HD has ruined my life
enteratining mcnugget he was
Back then it was all about putting the ball in the whole. Today, too much emphasis is put on handling the ball.
gbinct Well said gbinct. You're a prophet.
Moooooooooon
Such a lovely, fundamentally sound shot motion.
