Despite so much ga ga about rattan or cane as they call in India. It was hardly used at good homes other than parts of south india. It lost its appeal in 80s and 90s as all utilitarian and cheap office furniture in then socialist mindset government offices was made of it. Middle class had saharnpuri furniture in north which was solid wood with carvings. Karnataka and tn had rosewood and teak furniture too
Their parents in law are capable of living on their own . They're probably rich too . They probably regularly visit and they can buy a place right next to theirs . Only poor Indians live in joint family in crap shoe box spaces .
