    What archetype do you struggle with the most?

    • @DemonLobster
      @DemonLobster 3 роки тому +3

      BG Jump!
      Probably lose disproportionately often to big dumb green guy decks, too, now I think about it.
      Beastmaster, Oak Father, those kind of lists.

      Struggle against ?
      Definitively Yellow Flyers and heavy transform mono blue.
      Special mention to RY hand burn also, but fortunately I do not see many of these.

    Nice video and very helpfull. As i mentioned about 1/2 weeks ago, i’m a new player. As for right now i’m not very confident to play pvp. I’m trying to card collect, do missions, pandora, world bosses etcetera. But it’s very comfortable to watch your content and teachings!

      Awesome to hear 😄 I've heard there are some spooky Sharra rush missions that beginners have to deal with also so hopefully this can help with that too

      O yes there is! Some missions are very spooky and intimidating. Although I must say it’s a good way to get familiar with the different playstyles/possibilities However… at least I know now where I should place lands and should value the wells 😉

      Anti-rush is definitely a good one to learn!

    I love the breakdown on the land openings, it shows the depth of faeria's subtle strategy - and it's fascinating just how the theory has evolved over the years. Original theory was based on claiming the center land, then quickly evovled into the diamond defense as standard, before shifting to the V and then the Internal land focus, then the V getting more attention again. It's very cool. If you were to do a part 3 btw, I think there's one aspect that new players DESPERATELY need help with: the concept of the "racing window". In most defenses against rushplayers learn how to defend while harvesting but then throw the game away because they fail to counter-attack the opponent's orb. A rush deck usually has haste creatures or direct damage that allow it to eventually finish off an opponent if given infinite time. When defending the matchup involves harvesting while defending, getting an advantage, then building lands to the opponent's orb or otherwise getting threats there that apply DIRECT pressure to their orb. The rush deck with even a 3 attack dude in their face only has 7 turns to come back into the game, and it's easy to follow it up with a second unit once you have one there. If a rush deck is playing to defend their orb while they have no harvesters and you have one or two, they are in a terrible position and can't devote resources to attacking your orb or fighting your harvesters.
    In rush matchups, the defeneder often has a 2-turn window where if they launch a counter-attack they will easily win. This is usually when the opponent has few resources (either on the board in the form of creatures or banked faeria) and the defender has 1 or 2 harvesters set up on the internal wells. New players commonly make the mistake of building for a third well here rather than turning up the gas and driving to their opponent's face. I see players continually make variants of this mistake, even at the highest levels of play. This is because every turn you gain 5 faeria to their 3 seems good for you, but it's actually lowering your chances of victory in the long run - because it gives the opponent more resources to work with.
    If your opponent has 0 creatures and 2 faeria in the bank, and you have 2 farmboys and 2 faeria - you have 4 faeria of resources to their 2. That's a 2:1 ratio. If they gain 3 more (automatically) and you gain 5 (auto plus harvesting) they have 5 to your 8. That's only a 1.6:1 ratio. This is why in chess we look for trades when we're ahead on material, because it makes our advantages matter. By counter-attacking (I normally call it counter-rushing but you used the term for a land opening in this video) we force the opponent to keep their faeria low by trading with our attackers, or else force them to find a way to finish us off quickly despite their main attack already being defeated.
    This is also why Swarming Carassius, Soul Eater, Scourgeflame Specter and similar tools have inbuilt ways to deploy a counter-attack quickly after being summoned, and why new players often have an easier time winning with them than others when facing rush decks. However, all archetypes are usually pressed into playing defensively vs a true rush deck at first (even other rushes if they believe they have an advantage in the long game vs their opponent's version) and they need to understand this key principle.
    Fun Fact - the concept of the "Racing Window", the time when the opponent is temporarily vulnerable to counter-attack because of their positioning or the relative resources, is my favorite aspect of faeria strategy; barely beating out the concept of "influence". I describe faeria positions across several key dimensions: two of which are Pressure and Economy (resource/board advantage produced each turn via things like harvesters, eredon, etc). If your opponent has Economy, you need to either have a plan to quickly destroy or equalize their economy before their advantage overwhelms you, or immediately apply pressure to their orb. Also, if a player ever achieves both economy AND pressure they almost always win; as the oppoennt has to defend their orb or die and doing so means they can't contest the wells or apply their own pressure effectively. This is why the counter-attack is key against aggro, once you have established a defense and economic advantage, you gain a huge advantage by quickly applying pressure as well.

      Very cool comments, love the insights you've been giving. I do have a racing video planned in the future actually for my advanced series. Will be a while before that comes out but I agree that's an important one and a tough concept to grasp since it's such a short window. I like that you broke that down with ratios though - very clean way of explaining. I really like this concept too because it plays around with pacing as we talked about before. Some matchups you have to interrupt your comfortable pacing to stop your opponent because they're going to kill you.

    I love my blue jump list against rush. Especially if I get to go second. I usually get a tow ship first so I can be across the map on their land, and one spot away from their orb. Plus it is a sturdy body. Then I get to completely dictate the match, and have never lost doing that. I laugh every time I got to do it especially since I hated rush players when I first started.
