Ahh, that sounds great. I live in the Netherlands and was going to see him in Norwich this May... :( Due to the virus its cancelled of course. Willing hope to see him one day!
@chrischarlescook TY for sharing that!❣And How EXCITING!!!! I'd always sensed that he's emanating kindness - his desire to increase logic is obviously stems from humanitarian feelings - in my own experiences anyhow... But to have this confirmed? It makes me extra happy!! I'm a huge fan & have been for 10 years I think now • he's a phenomenal entertainer - just brilliant; additionally? His being openly gay further reduces stigma. Again - TY so much. XOXO!! 🖤✊💟🌍☮🎶🎨🌈🎼😍🐾🧙♂️👩🏻🎤
Derren is tapping into a shamanism or spiritualism and bringing access to that world to the modern day person. Incredibly important given our materialistic and culture war challenges
Man his casual persona is so different than the stage one, in the absolute best way. The JRE episode really surprised me, he seemed sweet and thoughtful and a little vulnerable, like a healthy sense of self-consciousness. Really appreciate this human being. I only wish that at some point in the future, he'd be a little more forward with the showmanship aspect of his act. It definitely makes me uncomfortable to read youtube comments where people legitimately believe he can imprint a memory in your head by tapping your arm a few times and suggesting phrases.
Yes agreed, he seems nice and his TV specials always seem well intentioned, but it doesn’t sit right with me the amount of deceit used and all the people who literally believe everything he says is happening.
This was a good interview. You asked some great questions that I haven't heard anyone else ask Derren, and you gave him space to answer in some depth. Well done.
When Derren talks about the power of pessimism he sums up my personal philosophy much better than I ever could. I've known many people in my life who were very much into happy-clappy positivity and spirituality, and I've always had trouble explaining to them why I don't feel compelled to join them in their echo chamber. They just end up thinking I'm an aloof misanthrope, which isn't entirely untrue, but like Derren I think mindless positivity in the face of a chaotic and indifferent reality is a mistake.
Well, it makes them feel better. They don't want to deal with negativity. Hence, the over reliance on positivity. We could all use a bit of both. The positive zombies are useful in their own way. Negativity can be useful for looking at the dark and scary parts of life.
@@chillingongreens its a odd thing. the need to feel better, and run from reality. as if grown people cant handle the truth and still need a new grown up version of santa-clause aka positivism. its weird that people are so emotional about a world that will forget them the day they die, just like a company that forgets about you the day you dont work there.
He's insanely smart and talented. Like off the charts. But you could learn to be special in your own way. I don't even know where to start with mentalism. But, if you really wanted, you could start with magic or hypnosis. There are teachers and resources for that.
I'm rather attracted to Derren. He's smart and obviously can trick you into French kissing a tarantula etc but it's his humble demeanour. He is very well studied in psychology and cold reading and adds the flair of old school magic he is a shy guy obviously, but learned his people manipulation through sales of something close. Something he needed people to see or believe. And he did so with gusto. My guess is a car salesman. Or a mormon. Lol. He needed to lead the conversation. He's got such a gentleman attitude I guess his mother was a big influence on his life being In a family that was Conservative. He is channel 4. He never became BBC so he has friends in the BBC but can't find a footing. Due to creative difference. He's fascinated by people but deep down feels as slight comtempt he's guilty of feeling. Today he worries hell run out of tricks before someone will latch on. James randi is an icon
Well, you should be happy to know that he's been in a long-term relationship for about a decade now. His partner just likes to stay away from the cameras.
Not that I’m gay, because I’m definitely not, no disrespect to the LBGTQ community. But I think I’d like Darren with his hair and his goatee, mustache and sideburns.
I sometimes miss his hair, but something about him looks kinder than he did with hair. Not that he wasn't kind before (maybe during his first year on TV), but he looks much more relaxed and less smug.
If he uses psychology, why don't psychologists? or do they withhold their skill and knowledge? It is awful how they waste one's life time and essence, energy by meaningless , disengaged, weak, nonsense therapy. There should be a entrance test for natural psychological talent, beside the requirements of good notes/grades. DB seems nicer as a man ta on stage. Speaks so fast, and I don't get how the objects manage o follow his stressing speed. Unless they are pre-picked.
Seen him live 5 times. Met him twice. I'm not bragging, I'm a no one. But I can safely say Derren is as kind as he is talented. What a guy!
chrischarlescook I was wondering, how does his show Underground differ from his show Secret??

Derren's such a sweet person. I loved hearing this interview! :)
I miss Derren being in NYC & tweeting all the funny stories - I hope he comes back one day :)

Love this interview, great job to all participants for this release!
Derren talking about Andy Nyman is lovely, couple of mad fish in a bowl
I'll be coming back to this interview a few times. 😊

Loved that. Great interview. The more I see and hear from Darren, the more I learn about myself.
Apart form his talent is also nice person with amazing body language speaking abilities
"Right, what if like after 20 years of doing this, I just love these people..."? 16:35
His book Happy is fantastic.
in what ways? for whom, do u think?
A wonderful show and great interview
i seen his show in Sunderland few weeks back it was amazing it's probs the only time you'll hear the words amazing and Sunderland in one sentence 😂😂
"INNER LIVES"_ COOL. I THINK WE AGREE ON THAT TASTE!
Awww look at his little choochie face. 😊
Really wish I had his abilities

Absurdly reductive and pretentious comments
@ Andrew Gough Well said.
Is this the start of your romantic fantasy? Good luck. Carry on.
He is such an attractive man, eyes and brain are everything and I am only sad he isn’t straight! I hope he has as much love as he needs

the music bed throughout the video makes it almost unwatchable
Why the damned, irritating background music throughout? Ugh.
Haha, I was just gonna comment that I love the background music,...okay probably not everyone does. :D I am sorry!!
Steve Cox thanks a lot.... I didn’t even notice it until I read this and now it’s driving me crazy
Derren looks like a white Colin Jackson sometimes lol

Derren has got a 'tick', he keeps nodding his head.🤔
Where's Dani?
The sexual tension is killing me
You think they deliberately set him up with a gay interviewer?
Or is the interviewer a regular host?
wtf

"Everyone is perplexed after seeing his show?" I wasn't, so not a true statement.
I haven't watched this but, No he doesn't!
