kadance takiari im from nz as well ... this kiwi guy went to the olympics or some event like that years ago and saw the japanese wearing jandals (but they werent called that) and he thought they would sell well so he brought the idea back to nz and started selling them. thats why theyre called jandals ; japanese sandals.

As an Aussie, I can say that the “j” in jandals stands for Jesus. Because they look like the sandals worn by people in Jesus’ time. However, I’m not sure that we came up with that one bud, I think it’s the kiwis
Edit: alrighty turns out I was wrong. After years of crappy primary school intel being passed around, turns out the “j” actually stands for Japanese. As in Japanese sandals, that’s why they’re called jandals, and the term was originally applied to thongs and then kind of grew to collectively refer to most sandally type shoes. Also- the kiwis made it up.
