Marty was not only blessed with one of the most beautiful voices a man ever had, but goodness me, how about his songwriting? As wonderfully versatile as his singing was. A special, once in a lifetime talent.
My Dad has covered this tune for 50 years, at family reunions. It is a constant request. I love hearing Dad play And sing this classic. We are both BIG Marty listeners!!!
My dad used to sing this song Acapella if mom asked him to do it. That was 20 years ago. I wonder what dad would think if I asked him if remembers the lyrics
The only man that could take you back to a time imagined or real, when he sings you can imagine you are there watching. That's called talent I suppose.
This and el paso. Me and my neigh neigh.... We used to ride horses but my grandpa played Marty on a loop lol and sang when we would go out into the woods.
Maan as a black man and many throughout the Caribbean consider the profundity of his songs exceptional..unparalleled! No western singer encapsulate that cowboy 18 century epoch like Marty!!! Real doesn’t sound like them water down wall paper, checker table cloth Jean Autry thing lol.
OMG. I loved that man's voice and his music ! Truly talented! From what I've read and interviews with his family he was a faithful husband and great father. Married his teenage sweet heart , 34 years until the day he died . Gone too young.
You just can't beat Marty. So talented was he. Probably the most versatile singer ever. Played piano, guitar, wrote most of the songs he sang, and absolutely the prettiest voice God ever gave to a man. A pure genius.
Yip! A talent like that comes along very rarely. All down to continuing gene improvement due to natural selection. Christian sky daddies nothing to do with Magical Marty.
I cannot stand today's country music only Red Dirt country music has any sense to it but nothing like this is on the radio anymore. in fact I've yet to hear radio station lately claim to be a country and western station there's no more western music left all we got is Marty Robbins and a lot of Old-Timers like him to listen to if you want to hear western music
I'm 19 and I grew up on this music. I wear "punk skater shoes, and the other half the time I wear boots. Grew up working my ass off and when I was younger me and my grandfather would rewatch all the westerns every sunday and he would sing me alot of Marty Robbins when I was younger and listening to the true roots of country just brings back so many great memories. Rest in peace granpa
@@wobbitt One more exceptional photo missing. It was either the Ellensburg Rodeo or the Toppenish PowWow in the late 1940s when my stepfather, Connie Bloomberg, was thrown and the photo snapped at the perfect time as his head and forearms touched the ground and horse's feet were all in the air. It was published on the front page of the Yakima Herald. Yes, he was okay.

My dad was a barrel racer, he expected his youngest to be the same rider. But I got no points in the bucking competitions. Everthing I tried to to ride accepted me as a rider. But then they probably knew I'd feed them anyway.
There's no such thing as country and western music anymore .it's not even country anymore God I love the old western songs when I grew up Mario Robbins he was a king when it came to writing western songs
there definitely is such a thing but you won't find it on your mainstream radio unless you live in Alberta or some obscure town out west..... or the occasional tractor supply. Bob Sikes used to have a radio show called Western Music Time that introduced me to a lot of modern day traditional western singers.

Dont know but he must have been related to the Opry talent manager who told Elvis "you should stick to driving a truck", truthfully though Elvis wasnt Opry material, but still. I listen to Marty Robbins everyday.
I've often wondered when showing emotion in music went out of fashion. Music today is sterile, barren of feeling and if anyone tries to put it in the music is ridiculed and described as corny or maudlin. All genres of music are like this. If you are over a certain age your musical taste is derided and mocked. Full of sound and fury signifying nothing.
first thing ..... no one wants to feel anything but happiness *there is a good psychological reason for that, caused by a dopamine addiction but that's another subject for another time* it basically results in people wanting to be numb to everything except happiness or anger. nothing else in between. and it's not just the music that's dull and sterile. our tv shows, movies and books have the same disease.
Jack Pruett or Grady Martin. Jack and Grady were the best but very different styles. Bobby Sykes played acoustic guitar and was a great acoustic player. On some songs, Marty plays.
Someone please explain what went wrong with country music. It used to be so good! Now it sounds like it's written by high school jocks who think they're real cool cause they have big trucks.
Marty Robbins was incomparable. The best of the best. RIP and thanks for the memories.

Absolut classic; real western music sadly doesn't exist in today's "country" - or whatever they call it nowadays.
Great song ☝️
Classic, a almost forgotten legend
I just LOVE this song AND Marty too!!!!!
"When Men were Men." When Buck'n Horses were Bucker's." Both Breeds have long since gone.
A lovely song. Makes me cry when I sing it.
No wonder they called him the great Marty Robins. Very good voice and a wonderful story teller.
