Ok but like, nobody I’ve seen react to the live action who watched the original first seems to remember that Gyatso and Avatar Roku /were/ friends when he was training at the air temple, which makes that “always be your friend” line hit so much harder for me personally because Gyatso has had the privilege of watching and befriending not one but TWO avatars and it just makes me so emotional 😭
It’s so funny cause Katara definitely forgot toph was blind at that point 💀 it was their first time traveling together and both aang and sokka forget about that in later episodes. Katar was making a comment about toph being in a rock tent not making a blind joke 😂😂
It's not the original, but I don't think anyone expected it to be. And there's plenty of things to love about it. The music, the fight choreography, Zuko and Iroh, they're all amazing. I can't say I love it, but I like it.
If they made it like the original, people would compare it too much, complain that it's pointless to be the same and not different enough. If they didn't make it like the original, people would complain it deviates from the cartoon. There's no winning with such people in this day and age. What I like about this show is that visually, it literally feels like the cartoon directly translated to live-action
I think it’s good that they tried not making it like the original, because if they did it would always be inferior to it. But what they did do is make it worse, the only thing they did well were the visuals, but the story? They removed amazing aspects of it and replaced them with spoonfed garbage without understanding why the original material was there in the first place.
They destroyed, like 100% took away Sokka's personality. Even in the end of ATLA when he learnt how to be respectful to people he wasn't that poor generous man. They turned Avatar from fun to 100% drama series...
Did they? Iroh talks so damn fast. And Zuko doesn't feel like a villian. He feels like season 3 of the cartoon. Like trying to be good, but conflicted.
I honestly enjoyed this series and can’t wait for Season 2. But the only criticism I have to give is how Aang and Katara were never taught waterbending by Pakku at all. I understand that Katara is a prodigy and a quick learner but she still had to be taught by Pakku to become as good as she did in the original series. I never imagined that Aang would never waterbend even once in the entirety of this one season which is based on Book One: Water.
I think they will train in the NWT and stay there so Aang could finish his training w Katara and Pakku in the beginning if B1, then go seeking for a new teacher who we already know))
Katara never was a waterbending prodigy in the og, Ang was! It even frustrated her how much more talent he had. But Katara trained all the time and then with training under Pakku surpassed Ang at waterbending. Oh and yes it is EXTREMLY frustrating that Ang didnt waterbend even once in the first season of this show. Kataras charackter here is all about waterbending and nothing else. Shes bland as fuck and not the amazing charackter she was in even season 1 of the og.
@@FloundFahrdienst ruuude👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 hope for changes in her character in season 2, and learning from Aang also like Aang practicing himself. In the end she became stronger and believed in herself And be grateful we will get 2 season so they can improve what really matters
Cuz they want katara to teach him next season, even tho the point of the og was she got jealous aang (being the avatar) was getting better, then she later proves herself with paku, n granted the rank of Master to help aang and herself hone in on there skills.
Summary of how my experience was: Tons better than the film but somehow didn't meet my expectations. They didn't show Katara's insecurity or envy of Aang's waterbending skills and how she had to fight for a spot to be Pakku's pupil, expositions galore instead of naturally letting the story flow, Aang's reason why he wasn't at the Air Temple when the fire nation attacked, and so many more. I didn't want them to copy the animated series beat by beat, but the changes they made didn't feel right with me.
@@SunBeeSmoked It must be stupid because we needed to take valuable air time to have Aang train in waterbending which he won't use in a significant way at all in the first season. I know you probably skipped the actual discussion parts of the reaction, but there is a reason that live action isn't a 1:1 to the cartoon. Instead of a shoehorned jealousy arc where Katara has to compete with the person that actually NEEDS to learn waterbending, we have the Netflix arc where she starts off very unsure and barely able to waterbend at all and, through her interactions with Aang and others, gains that belief and confidence in her own abilities. Maybe that was too subtle for you vs Katara literally throwing a fit about the Avatar being better at waterbending than she was. The narrative purpose for all three of the Aang gang was disovering who they really are and having belief and confidence in that.
@@wolffontechWhat? You’re acting like the cartoon making Katara jealous of Aang’s proficiency in waterbending wasn’t an obvious display of one of her character flaws. Up until the Waterbending Scroll episode, Katara was almost always presented as a kind and caring person who was very understanding and motherly, anytime she got angry, it was mostly for good reason (ie. pilot episode), but the Waterbending Scroll showed that she had bad sides too. She displayed envy, got angry at Aang for no reason, and bent her morals for her own gain when she stole the scroll, going as far as to even try justifying it. Compare that to Netflix Katara. She’s not bad mind you, but she has yet to display what her flaws as a character are.
She DID have to fight for a spot to be Pakku's pupil, what are you talking about? Why doesn't anyone who criticises this show ever get any of the basic details right
A lot of the criticisms I’ve seen can be easily explained by the budgeting issues and the strike. I think they did really well considering they had 8 episodes and so much pressure. Balancing nostalgia while not alienating new fans, while keeping certain things cartoon accurate but still not too corny for adults isn’t an easy thing. The acting was great, especially considering the cast ages and the physical needs. I really hope they get the full 3 seasons. Imagining some of the scenes with this cast is awesome. Give me this Iroh and this Zuko hitting book 2/3 moments 😫
@@SunBeeSmoked I think next season would focus on him learning bending, starting with recruiting Toph and ending with him recruiting zuko and a bit of fire bending and then the last season will be a wrap up to everything and the last fight etc, or they could save the zuko thing for the final season too but from the pacing having the whole third season with zuko vs azula as clear rivals is more likely imo
@@MARStark97 none of that changes that he didn’t learn water bending and they’d have to take away from him learning earth and fire to force it in when they had multiple opportunities for him to train with katara.
@@SunBeeSmoked I mean, it’s cannon that water bending comes naturally to him. I think they’ll show him picking it up quickly with Katara, there is no way they could’ve made the progress be shown in the same pacing as the original in 8 episodes without sacrificing too much of the other stuff we needed. The one thing they probably should’ve done is have the scene where Aang and Katara splashing each other use bending instead. If they’d shown Aang splash her back with bending then people would be complaining less 🤷🏻♀️
I feel like they did a huge disservice to the og trio by taking away the sexism and adventurous spirit of Aang. Sokka and Suki's relationship had more depth because she actually changed him for the better by humbling him and by doing so, she saw the more serious and respectful side to him. They also hammered in WOMEN POWER into katara's arc when that was never the point of her to begin with. She doesn't display the grown up tone of having to be the new mother figure for Sokka to the point he can't remember her face just Katara's and instead of actually being forma;;y taught, she's just strong cause WOMAN. I also don't understand why so much of Aang's story has to deal with him taking responsibility when HE DID in the first episode. The biggest change you made is that he's not running so why is he always getting scolded for it?
Why is everyone forgetting that waterbending was never a challenge for Aang in the og? He learned it so quickly that made Katara jealous! Earth and Fire were always the difficult ones for him to learn, not Water. Probably the first few episodes are going to be about how quickly Aang was able to learn waterbending (and we can still have Katara jealous bc of that), and then they arrive at omashu and the story follows normally.
Interestingly when iroh kept it casual and told zuko that the solders missed him at a music night without really answering the question, it was similar to what he said to zuko when he did agni kai with Zhao. Zhao told him to do it but fire bended to the side and tried to hit Zuko from behind. Iroh stopped it and saide my newphew more honorable than you in defeat. Thanks again for rhe jasmine tea it was delicious. Zuko asked if him if he really meant it. And iroh said of course jasmine tea is my favorite. Its interesting since both catoon and neflix starts with agni kai, zuko refusing to do the final blow and uncle not really answsering zuko lol
The writing in this show gives you no sense of mystery or adventure that the cartoon gave. It wanted to be more "adult and like game of thrones" yet the cartoon has more nuance and mystery and makes you think for yourself. You don't have to think at all for this show it literally tells you everything. Tells you how every character is feeling without showing you. It's just bad
@@unomiguel017the live action just straight up has long monologues to tell you everything instead of having any mystery. The cartoon was objectively better at storytelling.
i feel like the actors and writers would find their footing a lot better if given a season 2. The episodes structure is a lot more linear than season 1 so it could be easier to convert to live action. Plus the actors now have additional years of experience
I couldn't get past the writing of the first few episodes to get into the remake. How did it have less subtlety than the original show written for children?? You can't just make your characters announce how they're feeling to the camera!
Give me one example of a character doing this. I see this exact same complaint everywhere, and it's very clearly just parroted bullshit from people who didn't actually watch the show.
@@burneraccount2024 it is not bad writing. I can relate to what they want to show. Stick to the cartoons if you want. No one's stopping you, so stop whining here.
Something I only just noticed is that the netflix show gave us an epic earth bending scene up front... when the earth bending scene in the movie was arguably the most aweful/laughed at joke. Netflix show said: don't worry fans, we gotchu covered 🌍🔥🌊🌪
It makes perfect sense to me that aang does not waterbend , he tells us in like episode two that he understandably that he is still grieving the loss of gyatso and is not ready to move on ... the shit just happened two days ago for him and he's 12. .. gyatso hints at the main principle aang needs to learn in the counsel meeting in episode one... or he would fail to be what they needed... and it wasn't element but character development maturity.. which is what he learns this season. Then when he sees him in the spirit world he further educates him and provide perspective and free aang of the guilt. ... aang never got to process being the avatar .. before all hell breaks lose and by the time we get to episode 8 he is really ready and more confident in what he has to do and a light bulb goes off. . He now has grown to live and respect katara so he can learn from her now. And she is confident enough to teach him... there is a different between knowing the path and walking it ... and for people who dislike the exposition clearly needed it or should have caught on sense they literally explain why... even though it was for new comers to the world not for old fans ..imo ...i loved it and to me the characters response to war and genocide in a more human way then in the cartoon where they downplay it .. besides there children...too some of the things in the cartoon didn't even make sense but i like sokka discover what his strengths were and what being a hero warrior leader means, katara growing confident and healing from the guilt of getting her mom killed and living up to that sacrifice aang coming to term with the loss of his people friends and culture of responsibly sacrifice power war grief lossand taking ownership of what kind of avatar he wants to be. He spent the entire season trying to get others to help him. Plus we already know aang always had a tendency to skip training
One thing I wanted to correct because I saw a full reaction and one of you said that the beginning was pre dai li era and it's not true because Dai Li already existed in Sozin's era because the Dai Li were created by Avatar Kyoshi
I agree with you, Zuko and Iron truly were the ones who made me cry and love the show as much as I did. Of course like you mentioned there were some mistakes or stuff they could've done better but its a solid 8.5/10 for me :)
I did came to enjoy the new show alot more once I started viewing it as a fan service type of show the way Spiderman No Way Home was a fan service movie for over 20 years of cinematic Spiderman. And just like that movie, I don't think this show can necessarily stand on its own, it's too reliant on everything the original established and because of that it felt more like a fan service compilation than actually an Avatar reboot. But that doesn't mean it has no right to exist. Far from it. There is alot to love about this show and clearly everyone who worked on it genuinely tried to make it as good as possible. Plus, it's an all Asian cast with Asian people also finally being able to properly influence the writing (which maybe caused some of the bigger changes but that's a whole different debate). In regards to Asian representation this is clearly a massively W and for that I'll always be happy. It's life action Avatar made by fans for fans and for that, I do love it, but too many things missed the mark of what made the original so great and rely on YOU to make up for it through your nostalgia (and I can't believe how badly they butchered Katara, omfg)
Pretty much sums up the view of those who are in the so called “haters” category. Like, no, it’s not visceral HATE, it’s more like a disappointed sigh. They had all the ingredients for serving a delicious meal, and then they cooked… and burnt it all like the fire nation did. 😅
All the people hating on this live action are wild. Honestly this show is visually perfect. Yes there are some plot things changed but all around it doesnt ruin anything, it just speeds it up to make it fit the time limit they were given. If people want the original story, they should watch that. But for people who wanted a well done live action avatar? I dont think it could be done better than this show
I don't really hate the show. I kinda like it but I don't love it, and I understand the hate. The writing is bad. It just compensated with good visuals and choreography. Aang didn't even learn water bending. Katara also didn't need a master because apparently she is a boss-girl who never needed a master so she could match a fire prince who had years of training. "You found a master, haven't you?" "Yes, me." What a strong, logic-defying woman. Even in the early episode she was able to block Zuko's fireball even though she only learned how to make a water ball hours ago. In the animation Katara was also a strong woman, but her progress made more sense. I'm so excited for Book Two: Earth, where Aang will not learn earth bending. Lol.
@asahi6487 I didn't get that at all, I think people are just bored and bitter and want to find things to be upset about, quite frankly I think people need to learn to just enjoy things more and not try to see everything so negatively
Now that the show has already been renewed for a 2nd and 3rd seasons, you could make a short video saying what stories you'd like to see adapted from book 2 and 3 from the original cartoon...
In the cartoon, Ozai asks the General what his recommendation is.. when the General gives it Ozai agrees, he puts his seal of approval on it. So, when Zuko opposes it, he took it as a disrespect
I get the hate, but honestly I loved the series. Thought it kinda captured the charm of the original but put it's own spin on things. It gave us fan service like "My Cabbages!!!" but also let the show be it's own thing.
If “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” taught me anything, is that I don’t want an exact retelling of something I’ve already seen. If the first episode hadn’t ended with Scott’s “death” I would have dropped the show, I was soooooooo bored. This live action series gave us a new spin that felt fresh. Able to do things they couldn’t on a kids cartoon.
@@SunBeeSmoked He’s bound to learn something during the time skip to reflect the cast being 2 years older (if they start working on season 2 soon). He really didn’t know much water bending in the cartoon either. When he was training with Master Paku, he was fooling off anyway, hence why Katara had to become his teacher 😆😆
with the Momo thing: I feel like they knew that a big part of the fan base didn't trust them not to mess this show up, so they could pull a shock like actually making fans believe for a second, that they'd actually killed that adorable furr ball
bro it was so hilariously ridiculous in my opinion come on .. just why? We had zero emotional connection to the character since we've probably had like 2 scenes with him over the cause of the season and then he was immediately brought back to life/ was healed 5 seconds after anyways leaving no emotional impact on the characters or the viewer so afterall it didn't even serve anything to the plot either.. it was just bad writing 😂
1:42:31 To me, it’s less “people trying to hate” and more confusion as to why- in this ‘adult’ show, made for mature audiences who love GOT- the burn scar lacks the gore of the cartoon. Like, compare this scar to the one Zuko had in season one, and it’s clear to see which one hurt more. In the cartoon for ‘kids’ one of his eyes is permanently half-closed. His eyebrow is permanently gone (burned so bad it doesn’t even regrow after 3 years), and his ear is deformed and visibly smaller than the other (this one is a bit harder to notice, but some shots from the back of Zuko show both of them and his left is significantly misshapen). Again, not saying the live action was horrible. I’m just confused why they didn’t lean more into the gruesomeness of the original. Especially if they are trying to emulate GOT. Because wow did GOT do gory in a brutal but still realistic way. That’s all. Love your reaction! You guys are doing a good job analyzing the series and I’m glad you are having fun with it. It wasn’t my cup of tea, but it’s nice to know it brought joy to y’all 😊
Also wanna say that Zuko and Sokka’s actors were the standout performances to me- I think it’s more an issue of the directing and dialogue overall that hindered how great it could’ve been. But damn do those two give it everything! And Zuko and Aang’s actor can MOVE- holy COW those fight choreographies were incredible!
Yes, and I’d also like to add that during season 3 when Zuko confronts Ozai and learns that Ursa is still alive, you can see him cry regularly from his non-scarred side as the tears fall, but they don’t fall from his scarred eye, merely building up. Not exactly sure of the reason, but I’d probably chalk it up to some kind of facial nerve damage.
He didnt even run away here😂 the whole point behind his guilt even in the storm epsiode was that he RAN away and wasnt there for his people. He didnt even run away he just wanted to clear his head for a second but if you nust wanted some fresh air why did you fly thousands of miles in the ocean in a storm just to be like okay appa its getting bad lets go back😂 and then crash out... so dumb
Main thing everyone can say about this show is that these guys tried to make a good enough ATLA live action series. They actually gave a fuck about what they were making, more so than M. Night.
In spectacle sure but the writers did not care. They assassinated the main trio, especially Katara. I hate saying this but they made her story Woke feminist s#it. The fact that her water bending prowess is "innate" instead of actually seriously studying and mastering it. Because Katara was so dead set on learning water bending despite everyone telling her to stop, AFTER she got a master to actually train her, she excelled. It wasn't this "I'm my own master" YOU ONLY STUDIED A SINGLE SCROLL! And the "we can turn the tides" THESE ARE NURSES! You can't hand tribe woman weapons and actually expect them to actually fight with people who ATUALLY TRAINED to fight. Hey you know that stuff you use to dress wounds, take that and go fight people that use the same ingredients to make poison and bombs. What do you mean they got slaughtered?
How can you maintain in this opinion in the face of such colossal complaints like "it took Aang longer to learn waterbender" and "women can't improvise"? For real, though, this series was amazing, you're completely right. It's a shame every mildly positive comment on this show gets a swarm of whiny pissbabies who just hate anything different, Legend of Korra got the exact same treatment. I'm glad Netflix knows not to listen to them.
The creators apparently left after the first episode and, at least to me, it was very apparent. As netflix standard the writers did not care about the original at all. they kept the spectacle but left out everything that made me love the series and also made so many changes that i could not understand.
The OG creators wrote the first episode, and its one of the most heavy on the hate, lets be clear they left to do their own thing. They were also at the premiere.
I don't hate this live action, I thought the actors and all the visuals were on point. My complaint is with the writing. Being limited by netflix's only 8 episodes, I understand why they would have to say everything instead of showing. The first episode was just a lot of telling the audience all we need to know. But the change of some characters really brought it down. Katara was just the most prominent one. Her temper, and sokka's sexism were character flaws that made them more human and iteresting. In this, they felt more flat. When you have an example of what good character writing is, you don't get much of a pass. Disclaimer: This is no hate to anyone who likes it, I personally give it a 7-8/10, and I loved the actors, but the writing flaws are apparent. ReadwithCindy has done a good video explaining the changes to Katara
honestly I believe the actors are at no fault here at all because they can only work with what they were given. The script was terribly written for the most parts, let's be real here. And when the director(s) told them to act the scenes very bland and emotionless for the most parts „because we want to be more serious“ than what else can they do? I've seen some behind the scenes stuff and stuff from interviews etc. and If they only would've let the actors have as much fun in front of the camera as they were having behind the camera it would've turned out way more organic and less wooden because then we actually would've been able to feel the chemistry the actors are having but yeah..
Well... its better than that movie, obviously. At least i had fun watching it, especially as i was with my mom. But if i give it a rate, maybe... 6/10? There is a lot of things that weirded me out, i mean, i'm not against changes, but at least the changes should make sense, and a lot in this series were too weird to me. I was asking myself the whole time "why did they choose to do this?", and especially, KATARA, WTF WAS THAT KATARA?? Also, too much exposition. I just hate how live actions adaptations usually tend to take all the fun out of the source material and throw away so they can be "edgy" and "mature", and how they focus so much in action that they disregard the character moments that yes, they did had time to do, this series has almost the same run time as the original book 1 but i can't even feel for these characters, except Zuko and Iroh who had lot of time dedicated to them, why didn't they do the same for the main characters as well? Anyway, end of my textcast, thanks for reading.
I think the Avatar show wasn't as good as One Piece (but i also think Avatar TLA is much harder to adapt into a short tv show because how the first season is structured and i think the 2nd and 3rd will be better cuz the story is more straightfoward and less episodic) but i absolutely loved what they did with Zuko and Iroh and, for that, i think this show already deserve to be completed I just want to reexperience Zuko's rendemption arc.
how have you guys not done sword art online Abridged yet? especially because it seemed like you enjoyed DBZA. SAOA is arguably one of the best Abridged series ever made. also Hellsing ultimate Abridged is really good and also by team fourstar and is better than DBZA. either would be a great next option but i would recommend both.
some are saying because of the Kyoshi movie/ tv show that's supposed to come out in the near future but I don't know about that🤔. My best guess would be because they maybe thought a female guiding figure/ role model for a young boy would be more fitting or progressive nowadays than a male one, who knows🤷🏼♀️
I think they're going to give each of the previous three Avatars a chance to shine, atleast. We already know way more about Kuruk than we did in the original. As long as they still keep Roku's backstory later on, it'll even out.
@@KlaSiKo4 because the next season is supposed to be book of earth. This season was supposed to be book of water. They literally have to rush him learning water during the season he is supposed to learn earth. It throws off literally the whole show. How would that not be a problem? How is the avatar not learning one of the crucial parts of his job not a problem?
@@SunBeeSmoked cause the live action is the adaptation of the cartoon. Can't you guys understand that it's not gonna be one to one, a direct copy from the cartoon. And beside Aang didn't really mastered waterbending at the end of season 1, Katara did. And Katara trains Aang throughout season 2. So is that a problem if they adjusted the timing? Answer really is NO. You guys nitpick on so little things like bruh, IT'S AN ADAPTATION
My only real problem with this adaptation is that the camera never stops moving I can't handle shaky cam without getting severe head pains and eye pains so this series isn't watchable to me
I'll be honest, I didn't make it past the first episode by myself. This adaptation was far too brutal for me, especially with the raid on the air temple. I'm too soft to have fun watching people get cooked and crushed. So I never watched any more. It's easier to enjoy it with you all. More so since the really gruesome parts aren't shown here. I appreciate you doing this one. I feel more comfortable in this group watch. Love and peace, Sorta Stupid! 💚💛🏳️🌈
So the reason they didn’t get wet is because when actors get wet enough that they’re visibly dripping water they get paid more so they either be ankle deep in water or only wet enough. Hence why they never got wet during the fights, they’d have had to pay all the actors a lot more
Lets be honest this isnt The Last Airbender, this is Prince Searches For His Honor But Finds A Father In An Uncle. They nailed zuko and irohs relationship pretty well from the original and the acting between the two was much better compared to the acting of Team Avatar which i do feel the writters and diector failed the kids, especially Katara's character. Literally watering her down. I understand peoples grip with Bumi, but its a change thats understandable. Bumi lost his happiness and childlike imagination we all can have during the 100 year war. He let corruption run rampid through omashu because he gave up, eventually Knowing omashu would fall to the Fire nation. So Bumi let omashu turn into a Sodom and Gamora in a way that he had corrupt officals surrounding him, fire nation spies running rampid through the city causing death, chaos, pain, suffering and loss. I dont agree how they made Aang not run from responsibility as he did in the oroginal, but a coincidence he wanted to get some space moments before the fire nation arrived. The comet celebration gathering all air nomads is honestly %100 okay since the temples are gender segregated and there's 4 of them. Making 4 cordinated attacks all in different locations at the same time wouldnt be possible for the fire nation. How do Air nomads make babies? The Comet festival 😏*wink wink* So for them all to gather for the genocide to make sense is okay. Going to the comics Sozin placed traps for any airbenders that escapes the initial extinction, and the reality that very few ethnic groups have been %100 genocided in our world, its believable that a handful of nomads survived only to fall to sozins traps but he knew at his death,he never captured and killed the Air Avatar. So it makes sense that they then attacked the waterbenders, rounding every bender up in hopes they'd catch the reincarnation if they did kill the Air avatar, but just didnt know it. Sozin's bloodline made sure that if they did eliminate the avatar but got reborn, then attack the next nation the avatar would be born to; water tribes. And i cant help but have a fun theory of mine that Sozin *knew* the weakness of the Avatar; eliminate them while *IN* the avatar state and you'll get rid of the Avatar; forever. So thats why Sozin knew he didnt kill the avatar, no reports of eliminating a glowing milti bender to reach him, Sozin knew he failed his true mission by the time of his death. Im sure he told his son Azulon to attack the watertribes next in search of the avatar. It doesnt just spread the conquest but the true plan sozin had; to have the ultimate power in all nations, but the Avatar is the only one who truly spiritually and physically be more powerful than a world dictator.
I really feel for all the kids actor in this. They did a spectacular job but the writing didn’t give them many chances for character progression. Poor kid playing aang had to recite multiple paragraphs of soliloquies rather than SHOWING us aang being a free spirited goofball
Hi! Not a hardcore, capital H, hater, but I genuinely didn’t enjoy the show. It had good moments! Some great ideas! But to me it failed to deliver on a lot of key aspects of the original without committing hard enough on their adaptation choices to justify the plot/elements they tried to use. Hope that helps explain why some people aren’t as satisfied with the show as a whole 👍
@@ardoa8838I can 100% agree with you. I'm not hating, I'm just objectively saying what genuinely went wrong and not acting delusional just because this adaption was better than the movie. The show had a couple of genuinely good moments and I liked how they made certain storylines work for example having the Jet stuff happening at Omashu. I will definitely give credit where it's deserved but overall were the writing of dialogue as well as storytelling simply not good If not straight up terrible. And while certain additions to the story were very enjoyable and actually good, most of the changes done rank between unjustified, serving nothing to the plot whatsoever or straight up making no sense in universe/ writing wise. I can't believe so many people, especially fans of the original seem to be blinded that badly in those regards, acting like this show was the second coming of Jesus. I'd say it was the definition of O.K. not unwatchable but not great either and I think that's fair
I wouldn't mind so much if it was more "it wasn't as good, but I liked it", and less "THEY CHANGED IT NOW ITS THE WORST THING EVER WHY DID YOU BOTHER MAKING THIS NOBODY LIKES IT NETFLIX WHYYYYYYYYYYY" For a show that taught about enlightenment, emotional balance, and embracing change, it's rather ironic the way a lot of "fans" have been reacting to it.
@@cynicat74 I think part of it is because there’s been soooo many live action adaptations that are just like, subpar at best. Almost offensive in how bad it is, at worst. Personally, I’m tired of these kind of adaptations that aren’t Awful, but still aren’t Great as stand alone shows either. 😅 can we raise the standards a bit? I don’t expect a god level adaptation but I’m tired of studios putting out “okay” shows and the audience just having to accept it because it’s not awful and having a few good moments
What I've now come realize about new adaptions of old shows or movies is why try to recreate something that was already good like this really didn't need happen. Don't get me wrong it's good but it's just doesn't compare to the og this is what I need to understand why recreate something that will either be worse than the original or above average I for one am tired of seaing this happen to my childhood shows and movies they already ruined megamind don't ruin anything else please.
Plot point should not be at the expense of a character. Bumi was Aang's friend and Bumi is an englightened soul -- do we really believe he would blame Aang for the ruthlessness of the Fire Nation? If we all can agree that Aang would have died during the genocide, wouldn't Bumi? Instead, they made him a bitter old man. That was dirty.
He didn't blame Aang for the ruthlessness of the Fire Nation, he blamed him for just disappearing, leaving his friend alone to fight a brutal war for 100 years. (It's ofc not Aang's fault that he was frozen for so long... And yes, if he wouldn't have left, he probably would have been wiped out as well, and yes, Aang couldn't know that a war would break out). But yeah, I personally think it's actually more realistic that they added this to Bumi/Bumi's character. Makes him more "rounded". Also, I think it gives a good lesson to Aang/makes it more clear to him that he must 'grow up' and take responsibility. Sure, he never wanted to be the Avatar, but he is, he can't run away again. So, yeah, I think that was actually a addition. What do you think?
AANG DIDNT LEARN ANY WATER BENDING IN THE BOOK OF FUCKING WATER ARC. HOW DO THEY EVEN PLAN TO CONTINUE THE SERIES? HED HAVE TO LEARN WATER WHEN HES SUPPOSED TO BE LEARNING EARTH. IT MAKES NO SENSE TO HAVE HIM NOT LEARN ANYTHING!
How many times are you going to cry over this? Stop spamming every single comment with your repetitive bullshit. Them changing ONE detail about the show doesn't warrant you crying under every single piece of remotely positive feedback. Grow the fuck up.
Its definitely not nearly as bad as the live action movie but the show here was still pretty lackluster, the visuals are amazing but the acting isnt good and the original show just did everything better pretty much, but still not as bad as i thought it would be.
I have a love hate relationship with the live action. on one hand, I love the choreography and every scene with Iroh and Zuko, but on the other hand, they sucked all the life out of Katara, Sokka, and Aang.
Since Katara is more of a prodigy self taught master. Do you feel that if Aang had not been frozen for 100 years- and had lived a full life like bumi, Katara would have been the next avatar? since it would be a water bender, then Korra would have never been a thing?
I’m sad. Ep.1 made me hopeful but by ep. 4, I was falling asleep. A little too theatre kids instead of intelligent storytelling. Script and delivery are somewhat stilted and cring. Hopefully they find their lane and things get better.
I agree. Ep 1 left me hopeful. There were a couple of things I didn't really like all that much but also a lot of things I liked, kinda same for ep 2. Ep 3 was (imo at least) already significantly better than the first 2 and I thought this would be where things would take off but then they completely dropped the ball with Ep 4 for me.. adaption wise I'd probably say episode 5 (Spirit World episode) was actually the best because they at least made this completely their own thing, basically only taking the frame of the original episodes and characters but doing their very own thing with it apart from that. The rest however was very mid again. I wouldn't say it was unwatchable but it also wasn't great. Probably nothing more or less than „okay“. 5/10 for me If I had to rate it.
I think the live action has a lot of great qualities but i feel like the changed some of the characters too much and thats what I dont like about it, especially Katara
I will say this: I always thought it was weird in the animated version that Pakku dodged the first few ice disks like it wasn't a big deal but then looks surprised at the one that shows his reflection, especially because he never looked like he was caught off guard at all. However, in the live action, Pakku appears to never have seen or thought of ice disks before and it shows on his facial expression right from the first disk that he's caught off guard and almost slightly stumbles to dodge. I don't like how she never seems to have been taught and is suddenly recognized as a master though, but I do like that they highlighted she saw an Earthbender do something similar with the disks and adapted it to her water bending with ice.
i like this better than Book 1, i hope they do all books I dont mind changes they do in live action because some stuff in the cartoon be stupid and feel like filler if they can condense it and make it enjoyable go for it
But it's not as interesting when they keep trying to push for redemption zuko. In later seasons, he should be totally ashamed of his past actions which is kinda hard when he doesn't do anything horrible or villainous and they keep pawning those actions onto other people. Like being sorry for attacking kiyoshi island, Suki doesn't even know he was f#cking there.
@@x0gucx I agree, but I also feel that’s more of a directing/writing choice. Gotta agree with the OG comment that the actor playing Zuko is giving it his best (within the confines of what he can work with). But yeah, not seeing his lowest lows are gonna make his highest highs not as rewarding 😞
The writing and storytelling is really bad. "We need to get to the northern water tribe because something bad is going to happen, something only I can stop."
I felt like there was a lot of handholding exposition that I got pretty tired of. Like Aang saying that he's just a kid that wants to play airball and doesn't want to be the Avatar. Or the fire nation lieutenant saying "But we're the 41st division." Uh, yeah, that's pretty clear already. Why tell us that straight up? It kinda felt like they didn't trust the audience to understand the show without characters directly explaining what was going on.
@@loupgarou95 how about the fact that the entire purpose of Ang going to the Northern Water tribe was to learn waterbending. Not once did he waterbend in the whole show😂😂😂

Ok but like, nobody I’ve seen react to the live action who watched the original first seems to remember that Gyatso and Avatar Roku /were/ friends when he was training at the air temple, which makes that “always be your friend” line hit so much harder for me personally because Gyatso has had the privilege of watching and befriending not one but TWO avatars and it just makes me so emotional 😭
bro i really didn't remember that, but i supose it's okay, i haven't watched it again since the original run.
When uncle Iroh said "Everything I need is on this boat" AND HIS VOICE CRACKED FROM TRYING NOT TO CRY
"What's insane is Toph made friends with [badger moles]." It helps that she was blind and thus could not see how terrifying they looked.
Ita very subtle but during the flashback of Iroh's son's funeral you can hear Leaves from the Vines playing.
It's not subtle, per say.
I wonder if we’ll get Katara telling Toph “The stars are really beautiful tonight, too bad you can’t see them”
No. It's a blind people abuse. Don't you know that? 🙂
@@nadavbar-gil689 did you watch the cartoon?
It’s so funny cause Katara definitely forgot toph was blind at that point 💀 it was their first time traveling together and both aang and sokka forget about that in later episodes. Katar was making a comment about toph being in a rock tent not making a blind joke 😂😂
It's not the original, but I don't think anyone expected it to be. And there's plenty of things to love about it. The music, the fight choreography, Zuko and Iroh, they're all amazing. I can't say I love it, but I like it.
Ha I think that maybe some people wanted it to be the original but you’re right. If you can enjoy it for what it is, it’s quite enjoyable.
I’m not a huge fan of the new series, but I cannot deny that it is well made!
I think it’s good that they tried not making it like the original, because if they did it would always be inferior to it. But what they did do is make it worse, the only thing they did well were the visuals, but the story? They removed amazing aspects of it and replaced them with spoonfed garbage without understanding why the original material was there in the first place.
Aang learned no water bending and that ruined it.
They got Zuko and Iroh pretty much spot on, and since they're really the emotional heart of the series, that was important.
IMAGINE THEY ACCUALLY CAST TOPH AS A MASCULAR BEEF MAN
LIKE THE PLAY
GOT A PRETTY GOOD LOOK AT YA!
The General made the suggestion, and Ozai agreed. After Ozai agreed, Zuko said it was a bad idea. I think that was why he said it was his idea.
I think they will train in the NWT and stay there so Aang could finish his training w Katara and Pakku in the beginning if B1, then go seeking for a new teacher who we already know))
Never? Didn't he freeze himself and Appa into a sphere ( with ocean water )?
@@Gaia_Seraphina he did in Avatar State like in the end with Koizilla)) But I was talking about learning and practicing

Katara wasn’t jealous because they stupidly had Aang learn ZERO water bending.
Why doesn't anyone who criticises this show ever get any of the basic details right
@@cynicat74 It may as well not have happened since Pakku never trained her in this version. Also, who is this “anyone” you’re talking about?

A lot of the criticisms I’ve seen can be easily explained by the budgeting issues and the strike. I think they did really well considering they had 8 episodes and so much pressure. Balancing nostalgia while not alienating new fans, while keeping certain things cartoon accurate but still not too corny for adults isn’t an easy thing. The acting was great, especially considering the cast ages and the physical needs. I really hope they get the full 3 seasons. Imagining some of the scenes with this cast is awesome. Give me this Iroh and this Zuko hitting book 2/3 moments 😫
Idk how they’d make a full 3 seasons since Aang didn’t learn any water bending.
Yelling KISS during the Sokka/Hahn scene was me too 😂 would have loved that story change
Exactly! And they forget too that during the whole s2 Aang keeps training with both Katara and Toph

I was able to accept it until they went through all of book of water and Aang learned ZERO water bending.
@@SunBeeSmoked honestly, valid.

Lol.
@gemgem-hl7ii see here's the thing though. If you want a well flushed out version. Watch the original. That's not the point of the live action.
I don't think all people hate this....this show is renewed for two more seasons....
Theyve taken the personality away from a lot of characters, i don't think its that wild that people dislike it
@asahi6487 I didn't get that at all, I think people are just bored and bitter and want to find things to be upset about, quite frankly I think people need to learn to just enjoy things more and not try to see everything so negatively

To me, it’s less “people trying to hate” and more confusion as to why- in this ‘adult’ show, made for mature audiences who love GOT- the burn scar lacks the gore of the cartoon.
Night.
Except they had Aang learn absolutely no water bending which is just stupid.

The OG creators wrote the first episode, and its one of the most heavy on the hate, lets be clear they left to do their own thing. They were also at the premiere.
The 41st division was the best change in this live action. Does it more justice than the animated one.
Honestly out of this whole remake zuko vs ozai is definitely my favorite fight in the live action and I’m so glad they showed the Agni kai
8 episodes is the best quality writing these shows can get for the amount of time and money they are willing to spend on writers
We all knew the fighting and the aesthetics would be most of the best parts. They just need to improve the dialogue and acting
Yeah but i got to give this show extra point for make everyone tear bending....
honestly I believe the actors are at no fault here at all because they can only work with what they were given.
Bro nobody's reading all this lol.. Stop reaching
@@taeko7803 How do you know if she's reaching if you didn't read all of it?
@@taeko7803 do you have an attention span of like 10 seconds or smth? It took me literally 10 seconds to read this 😂 embarrassing bro
You guys are amazing reactors
I think the Avatar show wasn't as good as One Piece (but i also think Avatar TLA is much harder to adapt into a short tv show because how the first season is structured and i think the 2nd and 3rd will be better cuz the story is more straightfoward and less episodic) but i absolutely loved what they did with Zuko and Iroh and, for that, i think this show already deserve to be completed I just want to reexperience Zuko's rendemption arc.
Y'all should definitely read the Kyoshi novels! There are parts of the show that took lore from them, as well as the two cartoons 😁
Wait, since when has the cast been watching together?!?! Love it!
Btw guys in the beginning the genocide and Aang leaving didn’t happen at the same time. That was something they changed.
how have you guys not done sword art online Abridged yet?
especially because it seemed like you enjoyed DBZA.
SAOA is arguably one of the best Abridged series ever made.
also Hellsing ultimate Abridged is really good and also by team fourstar and is better than DBZA.
either would be a great next option but i would recommend both.
I would like to know why they changed the focus from Avatar Roku to Avatar kyoshi. Not mad about just wonder why the change
some are saying because of the Kyoshi movie/ tv show that's supposed to come out in the near future but I don't know about that🤔.
I want season 2 for this. Season 1 is already great.
Idk how they’d make a season two considering Aang didn’t learn any water bending.
@@SunBeeSmoked how is that a problem? They can just continue the story...
@@SunBeeSmokedthey could literally do that in the first episode lol, now that they’ve established katara as a master
1:30:44 I don't think she was hit, I think she fell back and avoided as the spirit swiped in front of her.
I would say that Aang didn't really ran away. Appa saved him. Aang even asks Appa to go back but I see no sign of Appa changing direction...
Who are these Haters!? Everyone I’ve seen watch this show loves it. So where are these haters coming from.
I wouldn't mind so much if it was more "it wasn't as good, but I liked it", and less "THEY CHANGED IT NOW ITS THE WORST THING EVER WHY DID YOU BOTHER MAKING THIS NOBODY LIKES IT NETFLIX WHYYYYYYYYYYY"
For a show that taught about enlightenment, emotional balance, and embracing change, it's rather ironic the way a lot of "fans" have been reacting to it.
Honestly it's not better than the 2010 movie
Everyone wake up! They posted!
Everytime Sean goes "IT'S/THAT'S THE DUDE" it's like a hype trigger in my mind I don't know why but I'm like "Fuck yeah it is!" when I hear it.
"Go, go, Koi-zilla!"
Grow the fuck up.
not enough show audio, can't hear it very much, just the reaction. Which is basically listening to silence and then "yeaa" or other screams.
It´s mind blowing how can people hate this. It´s at worst 7/10
Its definitely not nearly as bad as the live action movie but the show here was still pretty lackluster, the visuals are amazing but the acting isnt good and the original show just did everything better pretty much, but still not as bad as i thought it would be.
It might not be better than the animation, but at least it's better than the movie😂😅
I loved... I hope it is renewed. Book 1 of the cartoon isn't even my favorite, but the series was great.
I don't think this Netflix adaptation butchered the show as bad as the movie but I still think that it fails to add anything to the series.
If you guys keep talking about Yu Yu Hakusho live action, you gotta watch it. At least the anime, preferably first
This is leagues better than the movie. It can come to the cookout
Opening scene was cool. But having Aang leave to think instead of running away ruins his entire character arc.
I have a love hate relationship with the live action. on one hand, I love the choreography and every scene with Iroh and Zuko, but on the other hand, they sucked all the life out of Katara, Sokka, and Aang.
I was disappointed by this tbh. One Piece made me hopeful for live actions
5/10 for me If I had to rate it.
yappity yap yap
Yesssssss 🙌
I think the live action has a lot of great qualities but i feel like the changed some of the characters too much and thats what I dont like about it, especially Katara
Wait, is the live action movie gonna get a video on the channel too?
You say you’re avatar fans but ten seconds later you mistook avatar Yang Chen for zuko’s mom? I fuggin with you jk lol
It was gas
katara and sokka so pale
i like this better than Book 1, i hope they do all books I dont mind changes they do in live action because some stuff in the cartoon be stupid and feel like filler if they can condense it and make it enjoyable go for it
Aang didn’t learn any water bending and that’s just stupid
Let's be honest it was super mid. But great graphics lol
this was fun but when is the reaction for shamalans true live action avatar masterpiece going to drop
Guy playin zuko is 🤌🤌 i cant wait to see his whole redemption
But it's not as interesting when they keep trying to push for redemption zuko. In later seasons, he should be totally ashamed of his past actions which is kinda hard when he doesn't do anything horrible or villainous and they keep pawning those actions onto other people. Like being sorry for attacking kiyoshi island, Suki doesn't even know he was f#cking there.
@@x0gucx I agree, but I also feel that’s more of a directing/writing choice. Gotta agree with the OG comment that the actor playing Zuko is giving it his best (within the confines of what he can work with).
But yeah, not seeing his lowest lows are gonna make his highest highs not as rewarding 😞
damn we got the supercut
You managed to do what I never could and that’s make it more than 10 minutes into this movie
i enjoy it for the fighting and spectacle but the character writing and dialogues are horrible
Very mid adaptation. Probably even a bit less than mid depending on how you look at it.
The writing and storytelling is really bad. "We need to get to the northern water tribe because something bad is going to happen, something only I can stop."
If Aang didn't go there it will be the end of water bending. Zhao is about to kill a moon spirit.
Not once did he waterbend in the whole show😂😂😂
@@loupgarou95 or the fact that in the beginning he decided to fly on Appa to clear his head instead of “running away” like he did in the original version, and then having every adult he encounters yell at him for “running away” from his responsibility when HE NEVER EVEN RAN AWAY IN THIS VERSION
@@loupgarou95 or how about when Ang is told that in the spirit world that Sokka and Katara can’t connect with the spirits. Yet IMMEDIATELY AFTER Sokka sees the fox 😂😂😂😂
