My son and his partner visited two years ago. He declined to take photos with the guards and horse as he said it was disrespectful to the guards. He comes from a family with a long line of military ancestors. I was so proud of them and my son’s attitude and respect for the guards.j
Why is it disrespectful to photograph the troopers? They know people are going to photograph them while on public ceremonial duty. It goes with the territory. As long as he was respectful of them, what's the problem?
@@poopyanalbumhole Taking a selfie is hardly being disrespectful, unless you're an easily triggered snowflake.
😊 in no no no😅 in in
My daughter did the same, she refused, I took a picture whitout touching the horses. See, don't touch. ❤
Very respectful lad .
This is how we were taught when visiting ANYWHERE. You are a GUEST and you need to be respectful of the places you go…learn their customs and don’t be disrespectful. One trip I remember was going to The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier….and the disrespect from kids AND ADULTS amazed me! The guard stopped marching, marched over to the group and gave them THE SPEECH! Their response was “geesh”. I wanted to slap each one of them!
Good to hear..and this area is the Guards workplace..and tourists are there under sufferance..Most think the Guards and Horses are there just for them and their cameras..they aren't.
My hand would have been itching to slap them. What type of adults are they going to grow up to be like?
@@veronicacrabtreehill6608That is because history is not being taught but a mythology is being taught. So young people don’t have a connection because you aren’t teaching them why.
Oooh, yeah... I lived in DC for 10 yrs - the guards posted at the TUS will damn near rip your head off if you step over the chain, around the chain... no selfies in front of the Tomb... PERIOD. HOLY GROUND.
Idiots abound everywhere, unfortunately. Many too stupid to get it.
The arrogance and ignorance of the tourists are really sad. But - these beautiful horses with those magnificent men in their splendid uniforms still stirs this old lady’s heart! Only the Brits! 🇿🇦👏🏻
The Guards do look very handsome
❤️
Well they get all this from being the Germans that they are. The only real Britons are in Devonshire and Wales.
What a lovely comment.
Here's another hold lady from afar who gets a lump in her throat, particularly when they ride together. Maybe distance leads enchantment and we "old dears" should get together and have a fan club.
He is not a tourist attraction, to take a selfie with, he's a serving soldier, who is protecting king & country, show him the respect he deserves.
Concordo pienamente 👍
A lot of people are ignorant of the fact that these are highly trained combat Veterans who are some of the best soldiers in the world. They deserve respect and not spot.
Of course they do, I totally agree with you. these tourists these days on the whole are all about those "damned phones" for hours at a time.
None of this would happen if visitors would not be allowed to get near the horses. I feel very sorry for the guards and the horses. There are some very rude visitors.
Exactly my thoughts too! If tourists have no common sense nor respect then they definitely should not be allowed near enough to touch the horse .Unbelievably ridiculous!🤬 These men have a job to do, not provide entertainment or a petting zoo for visitors.😤
None of this would happen if people weren't self-important jackasses who believe rules don't apply to them.
I believe the horses should not be touched.
I get that people want a picture. But should not be right up close.
@@daphnethurlow5388 It used to be much more civilised , but I'm afraid that the almighty mobile phone and the driving addiction to "selfies" has ruined it. I have taken many photos all over the World, and I am in only one or two. The place is the important thing, and the photo is proof enough that you were there.
This place is a working public street in London leading up to Trafalgar Square,so there will always be passers-by on the pavement/sidewalk in front of the horses. The horses btw undergo a lot of training to get them used to noise and people.
The horses are just, plain, stunningly handsome.
The guards aren't bad to look at either!😊
Looked like every one of the horses are about 17 and 1/2 to 18 hands high. That's over 6 feet to the top of their backs.
@@sharonwells9593 yes, they have to be a minimum of 16hh to qualify for military duty, most of them are over that
@@alison__16 are they of particular breed? Maybe thoroughbreds. Though with their small neat heads looks more like Morgan's or Standard breed horses.
So many of our thoroughbreds and quarter horses have huge blocky heads. Lot of the Tenneessee Walkers have large, long heads too. Our Racking horses had small neat heads, our black mare was mistaken for an Arabian because of her neat head. My American saddlebreds had neat but heads were longer than the Racking horses.
@@sharonwells9593 they come from Ireland and are a cross between thoroughbreds and Irish draft horses, they are known as Cavalry Blacks. :)
Disrespectful tourists.
Exactly if you don't have anything good to say don't say anything!!
Yes very disrespecting but it seem that they feel they can do what ever they want without repercussions but how many of them are illegals if the tourists can not follow our ways of doing thing then why come if we are in there country they would go crazy if English tourists disrespected there country so just do want you are told where ever you go
Such patients, professionalism & control ! True soldiers through & through. Difficult & sometimes very difficult job that you bring such dignity to. You do your country proud. Thank you for your service.
Poor guards! I say with all the signs and directions given and ignoring them, arrest them! Love the guards and their horses!
💜💜💜
Make them muck stalls.
The Brits are a class act! Stunning horses and outstanding guards. I hope to one day be standing in front of Buckingham Palace.
Save your pennies and I'm sure you'll make it.
They are so smart on duty, it makes us proud as a nation.
Also, there is no other Nation on this Earth that can put on a display like the ones held for the Queen's Funeral and the Coronation.
Thank you for being out all weather bringing your videos. I live in Australia now and love seeing what's going on there, and seeing all the old buildings. I think the guards are amazing 😊
No matter what “tourist” site, in whatever country you visit, it’s common sense and LAW to ALWAYS follow the posted/verbal rules!! Some countries will arrest you without warning, while other’s will not put up with your nonsense after the first one!! Sometimes, ASKING if it’s possible to get a little closer, take a pic, etc., will be allowed, but if the answer is “no!”, then “NO!!” it is!!!! Grown people who act like children, should have a pacifier glued onto their mouths!!
I used to wander what was the point of the guard if they need the police to enforce the rules... then I realised its a division of legislative responsibility and jurisdiction... well done UK!
Guards are there for the Royal Family, police for public control.
This is what happens when people think it's a Disney experience. These are guards on duty.
They are also working soldiers on duty. Will be going abroad to serve the King.
It amazes me how so many people can stop to take a picture with the guards and it does not occur to thank them for their service. Even if protocol means they do not respond, it just seems that the photo takes precedence over the content of the photo.
This isn’t a ‘thing’ in the UK in the way that it is in the US.
Visitors have been given an inch and they try to take a mile. Some visitors expect to get as close as 'they want', thereby not respecting the Guards and horses space. Rarely in the videos you see visitors even acknowledging the Guards with a small gesture of thanks or appreciation. It is appalling to read disrespectful comments also.
Many of these tourists come from countries who have nothing near this type of culture and the closest thing they have is Disneyland and they don’t get these are real serving soldiers doing military service they are like excited children unable to control their impulses.
I'm guessing you're American given your "thank them for their service" bullshite....
America provides pitiful mental health support and no safety net for the thousands of homeless vets.....
But you know you keep thanking them for their service, I'm sure it matters just as much as the "thoughts and prayers" instead of action on gun control to stop little children being blown to pieces ..... 🙄
And most seem to be British citizens showing such poor manners
Never been able to understand why these "tourists" are allowed such close access. Keep 'em behind barriers!
for pictures of course
Totally agree. I think it would be an honour to be close enough to the Kings Guards and their horses to be able to take photos of them without being a pest. Love them.🇦🇺
There will always be an idiot that has strayed from their village and become nuisances. After, 1 left the palace and has gone to the states and has become an embarrassment there.
because GB is NOT totaltarian state.Vist North Korea, China or Russia to name but three if you wish tht sort of thing.
I will hazard to guess because to the Horse Guards the "tourists" are not as big a problem as every other person on UA-cam seems to think they are. Or, they just think it's part of the job and to just get on with it.
These tourists need to start realizing that they don't screw around. You don't mess with the Queen's guard. None of them you mess with. There's a whole series on how they're all trained and they're the best trained in the whole world and they are trained to eliminate an enemy just so they know
Yep, people don't realise that just because their current tour of duty is ceremonial that they are actual serving soldiers. Most of them will have already served in Afghanistan or Iraq or any number of other places
The Guards should not have to put up with those pesky tourists.
If there weren't any tourists - there wouldn't be any guards ! Let's face it - they're mostly ceremonial. When push comes to shove there's not too much a guy with a dull sword and wonky footwear can do.
@@stevewilson5292 the guards are not there for the tourists. It is a British tradition that they are there to protect. Unfortunately these moronic tourists think its disneyland or a petting zoo and get in the way. And another thing, these are fighting serving soldiers, defending their country
Very true, they are a menace to the horses and no respect for the Kings guards. They need a barrier between them, look but not too close.
@@mariamccarthy8190 C'mon they're just a tourist attraction ! My sympathies are entirely with the foreign tourists just attempting to shelter from the abominable English weather and being yelled at in some kind of wild dialect that even a native English-speaker like myself can scarce understand. @@stevewilson5292 are you mad, those guards are in fact working soldiers, not a tourist attraction,
The police need to stop talking in groups and do what they are being paid to do. Walk around to stop bad behaviour from tourists and protect our military.
If you look at other videos you will see that they do do their job and do move these morons away.
Thought military were s'posed to protect themselves..Hee Hee!
@@macmccreadie8541 😂….Brilliant 😂
They do need to pay more attention to what's going on around them, I get so frustrated when I see a scene playing out and they're stood there totally oblivious to it.
what on EARTH do you know about it? Notice their guns? they are there to keep people safe. they are doing so.. they are there to keep the soldiers and horses safe from terrorist attacks. They are NOT on rigid parade. Talking to one another is allowed and not neglect of their duty. i do know.. I was a police officer myself.
I wish there were more barriers around the horses and guards! I would love to visit some day!🇺🇸
You cannot put a barrier around the horses, in an emergency they would need to emerge immediately, they couldn't be asked to jump over anything, they are not eventing horses.
@@dianapeek6936
A thick white line painted on the ground should suffice, along with the idiots being told by their tour guides to keep outside of it. No need for a wooden barrier, as long as the tourists are respectful.
@@dianapeek6936
Another problem, they would have to be moved to the other side of the barrier. It takes ages to get the idiots to move when it is change-
over time for both guard and horse. Could you honestly see the melee that would ensue if a horse HAD to move in a hurry ? The tourists swarm round the poor horse and guard like flies round a honeypot, it is suffocating to watch them.
I think the guards must have a serenity prayer to help them cope with daily irritations. I admire their restraint. Don't put me in that situation armed with a sword or bayonet... Off with their heads!
Me too😂😂😂
Somebody needs to sort out the leak behind the guard. The guards and the horses have amazing patience with the public.
Why does everyone crowding the guards and horses burst out laughing when someone is shouted out and the culprit is smirking.
As a linguist I am fascinated by the bits of conversation I hear.
Some remedial work to the guttering is needed in parts of the building.
The guards may not respond but it is respectful to say thank you to them.
The Police should be more vigilant instead of huddling in a group of four
The police are a waste of space 😡
I’ve had the same thought! The police spend more time chatting with each other rather than keeping an eye on all the unruly tourists! 😡
I actually feel bad for Londoners. I realize the palace and the guards are a tourist attraction, but I would hate to have my city overrun day in and day out with rude, loud, annoying people who aren't there to enjoy the history, but to take selfies with a guard.
And mostly dressed like bums with zero social graces or manners.
Sounds like you are describing average Londoners as well as tourists there mate
Will dignity, respect, and honor ever be back in style? The complete disregard for others is sad😢! Society needs a grand dose of humility to return to civility. GOD help us all!
No why we have a present social media as it is, we won't. Its rude, self indulgent, cruel and very often downright WRONG.
I never understand why people want to stick themselves in the picture!
These tourists need to learn that it is a privilege for them to be allowed to go inside these areas and take photos and experience history. The gates can be closed. The horses can be put inside. The tourists can get their photos through the gates instead of up close and personal as they are allowed to do now. They are nor owed anything. This is a gift and a privilege that they are allowed .
Full respect to the guards and armed police here. 👍 👍 👍 👍....
If only more of the police officers would pay attention instead of standing around chatting to each other
Love the police piebald horse I've noticed it before it is always so calm and collected,
It’s tail is beautiful
I noted that the officer riding that horse was from the City of London Police (red & white chequer), as opposed to the Metropolitan Police (black & white chequer).
Thank God these guys get some protection.
" When I was a kid , Boston Blackie was a favorite tv show of mine. ❤ "
Hazards of standing a watch was never this difficult for me. Even in the snow or out at sea [on a USN aircraft carrier].
I've said that a few times to the only time the police do anything is when they hear a guard shouting or when they are changing the guards 💂♀️ over. Other than that they just stand about talking to each other.
There is a difference between Military and Civil. It must be as boring for the Police, as it must be for the Military.
If you pay attention the cops are looking over each others shoulders. They are protecting everyone there but have to protect each other first and in particular their firearms, unlike their unarmed colleagues they don't engage with the public as a matter of course. They are there to observe and react if necessary and on most occasion the soldiers can take care of themselves and most circumstances.
The Drone Detective. I agree. I get annoyed with the negative comments about the police. They know what they're doing.
It's "Not Disrespectful" to take photos of the soldiers but it's the way some people take the photos that's disrespectful !!
It is disrespectful when they walk within two of three feet of a standing guard. This is totally unnecessary when modern phones have extremely powerful magnifying capabilities and you could stand yards away and get the same result.
The guards and horses always seem to be ok with children and most of the UK tourists say thank you
Not safe to allow children to stand so close, the sign is clear. They would be the first to sue if something happened.
No they don’t.
The horses seem to understand children are no threat, lighten up Francis.
With what that's costing the public, you'ld think that they could afford to fix the roof. That poor bugger looks half drowned standing under that waterfall.
I see this around the world people try to take selfies on hallowed grounds or scratch their names into 1,000 years old walls and stones. Those who do so should be punished severely. Changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown disrespected by people trying to take selfies and talking
I notice how the guards cover their horses with raincoats. Love to heaven!
Well said police should do their job not stand talking behind the gates that's not protection
If each guard had an armed policeman with them that would made the tourists keep back .As for getting rid of the Royal Family you would have ended up in The Tower for that comment

@Nicky L Hi Nicky, you are correct but that was not my point. I remember London in the 1950's,. the guards were outside the fence at the palace and the horse guards would move around without a police escort.
The world has changed, founder that here!
@@PeterL-r6w That all changed in the 80s when terrorists decided to kill the guards and their horses.
That's because tourists don't respect their space
@@PeterL-r6w The standard behaviour of tourists has dropped, dramatically. I live in Ireland and we have castles here from the times of King John [not sure they are all literally from then but they are known generally as King John's castles, nearly all of them]. I have seen guides having to stop tourists carving their initials in the stones because apparently they are just ''like the Disney castles'' so not real historical buildings which have been standing for 700+ years. I heard complaints because the portcullis and drawbridge on my local castle no longer works - ''why did they build them if they weren't going have them working for the tourists to see'' [in reality the ''river'' changed course and no longer flows around the castle]. Another, not one of King John's castles but more of a fortified tower, should have been built bigger and with proper stairs inside - they didn't like the old stone staircase which wound round the inside of the tower - when they built it.
I'm pretty certain - from talking to the local historian and the OPW guides - that the tourists weren't this ignorant even 40 years ago. Now they seem to compare everything to Disney and assume that they were built to copy the Disney castles rather than that they really were built for a purpose [in this case it was to protect that part of the main ''route'' between Limerick and Dublin while the fortified tower-house was built to protect the local chieftain].
Heck, where I lived up until a decade ago has a lovely church which was built a couple of centuries ago but which is attached to four towers. One goes back to around AD 500 and was built to protect the first monks from Viking raiders while the other four date back to the Tudors and have a number of tombs in them of prominent local families. Tourists are happy to despoil the outside, again often with graffiti as they are open to the public to walk past, if they take the keys and look around inside they are happy to drop litter as they walk around - hey, who cares about the McDonalds bags and drinks cartons they drop, they are only bits of stone after all, nothing important - and apparently they have even been caught trying to climb up to the entrance to the ''round'' tower - which was originally a lot higher up than it is now as the ground has risen over the past 1500 years - to get inside and see what it was like in there. Again, this is all relatively recent behaviour on the part of tourists according to the keyholder - who acts as litter warden and who know refuses to let the key be used without him being there because of their behaviour in the past - and it is the innocent, and those genuinely interested in the history of what is there, be it in England, Scotland, Wales or the entire island of Ireland, who are paying the price for the ignorant louts who seem to think that everything is simply Disney in another country ''because Disney built castles'' so of course, Europe had to copy Disney.
I no longer live in a tourist area [well, horse racing tourists only] and I'm glad of it but it seems to be getting worse everywhere. I've heard tales from a friend of a friend who works at the Louvre, and the behaviour of some after the da Vinci code film apparently is beyond rational belief. They are everywhere, and most seem to think that everything is copied either from Disney or Hollywood, rational behaviour has flown out of the windows to be replaced with total ignorance. Sometimes I really do wish they would simply stay away.
The public are pig ignored if they can't give these beautiful horses and guards some respect then they should be Arrested, simply as that, godbless the police beautiful horses and the fantastic job these poor Kings guards have to do, I feel very sorry with what the have to put up with, godbless you all, xxx ❤

But the very tourists were on about if someone did that in their country u gaurentee they wouldn't like it.
I love horses but these horses need to be under the complete control by the riders. Harassing them by pulling on reins not only disrupts that control but can harm the horse's mouth. These guards are trained to control a horse without damage to them. They should not allow them to be touched.

I think the building need some maintenance. It has a severe leak like the one behind the guard 06:19, and it comes from the terrace on top of the arch.
You are talking about a building 100s of years old maintenance is constantly being done, and leaks will be sorted out eventually

That one guard that yelled at that idiot. Is standing guard with water pouring down behind him as it's splashing on him from the water hitting the ground. Either your roof is leaking or it's open. He never moves God Bless him.
Tourists should actually read what not to do, if you visit there. The guards and horses don't like you move on.
Its disgraceful that the police do not put a stop to this. Notices telling people to behave respectfully and stand clear of guards and horses should be out up.
Anyone disobeying should be arrested, fined, held in custody for a few hours and then tresspassed to never return. Ruin their day...
