    • @tomt9543
      @tomt9543 Рік тому +2

@@BubuH-cq6km Bondo (or filler compound) has a long history in cast iron and steel production. Industrial lathes, milling machines etc. from clear back in the 50’s (or earlier!), and modern day equipment such as forklift counterweights use it to smooth the rough surfaces of castings. It’s much faster than grinding, and provides an aesthetically pleasing finish! Take a chipping hammer to a forklift weight and you’ll see the same thing as he did on the anvil bottom! It is indeed hiding something, but it’s typically just rough casting surface! That being said, I wouldn’t put it past these anvil folks, or any other overseas supplier of cast items, to fill gaps, voids or holes in a pour that could compromise the integrity of the item! Buyer beware!

@@yoitsgunattack so far, it's decent. It's handled my 3 lbs sledge swings on thinner mild steel just fine. I'm still learning the very basics of blacksmithing, so it's not a super comprehensive review, but my particular anvil is treating me really well. I also followed Roy's wooden anvil stand video to get it to the right height.
Overall, for $350, I'd say it's worth it for a beginning smith. It's an easier pill to swallow than the $1000+ for a forged anvil, but I have no idea how long it'll last.

I purchased the 132lb Vevor Anvil directly from them. Received Dec 2022 and it arrived in a wooden crate that was strapped and braced with metal corner bracing. Huge improvement to the packaging presented on your video (which was recorded 10 months ago). I'll be sure to look through your videos on the best way to mount this anvil to a wood base. The Pritchet and Hardy holes are straight-through openings and the base is at an angle so the mounting of the 132lb does not appear to be straightforward or easy.

Yeah, Fedex sucks. I lost a leg 6 1/2 years ago, a Fedex driver wanted to leave an air compressor on the street in front of my house, i asked her to put on the sidewalk where i could get to it. She said she had a "bad back". What you couldn't move it one more foot? As for the anvils. I look at it this way, they're a lot better then they had in medieval times, as they didn't have a lot of carbon steel for anvils around. And look at some of the great things they forged.

First, thanks for reviewing these vevor anvils. I'm considering purchasing an anvil though I have a 50lb section of RR track well on it's way to becoming an anvil. However I am considering a vevor anvil, but, now I'm seriously hesitating buying from them with that careless packaging. I'd say you're lucky that FedEx even took the time to deliver a product that had broken free from its packaging due to the lack of attention by the seller. Personally, I dont have time to waste gambling on whether the product I purchase will make it to my doorstep in one piece or at all for that matter. They have a lot of different products on my near future list, but, I think I'll wait to see if they upgrade their packing protocol.

I bought a 88lb vevor anvil last week and it was in a box that was also torn up. I was expecting this to be in rough shape and it was. On the back side of this anvil 3 -4 inches near the back end , there is a "large" gash under the rear that's maybe 2 - 21/2 mm deep by 2 maybe 3 inches in length and a 1inch wide and on the inside of one of the legs it has some pitting mostly shallow little pin heads but a few that are kinda deep around 3mm into the casting aswell. But at least the defects were not covered up with anything like paint / bondo . But outside of that I have already forged 1/2 rebar on it and to be honest after dressing it up it will be ok and imo it's still a decent way to start compared to something like harbor freight anvil or some other aso.

My thoughts on these, 1 those are semi oval horns, 2 a squat or duckbill horn is the 55lb Horror Freight ASO, cast steel better than cast iron any day! 3 FedEx sucks! Some drivers don't give a hoot! and others I have met were real nice when delivering! I'm on real good terms with my mail carrier person and if I order anything heavy or bulky I get it off the truck for him! He's the same age as me, gonna miss him if he ever retires

I got the 132. Ignore the hype. They are great for the novice who is over the first hump. They are better than a rail road track, way better than a HF aso, even with a plate welded on. The speed of my work has increased, the double horn is very useful for smaller projects. I even figured out how to forge a small, short hold fast that works great for that giant pritchel hole.
I plan on getting another one soon. I want to do demos to get myself seen in my community. Gonna get the 110, or one size smaller. Good to move around.
And yes, the quality varies. Mine was near mint. Only a few cast marks. Little bump on the side right below the name. All in all, great recommendation. It's gonna do everything I need to get me to my "lifer" I'd love to see fontanini get back up and running. Them, or maybe a kowlska? I think I spelled it right. One of those big 450 double horns! Great vid 🍻

I bought a 40kg vevor 1month ago and had the exact same experience with the shipping package.. it was torn and all beat up with NO brown paper, I was surprised it was still an anvil. Although this anvil works great and can't discredit its performance BUT there were some manufacturing issues that needed some adjusting. The anvil was offset with the casting and had a 3mm seam down the centre of the horn, I had to grind it to shape. The hardy and punch hole needed filing as they had casting burs on the inside.. horn wasn't round until I hit it with a grinder and sand paper. Overall review is 'you get what you pay for' and this anvil works great after the make over just be prepared to do a little work

I've purchased a lot of things from Vevor over the past few months and have not had any problems shipping wise yet... we'll see how my anvil arrives tomorrow from FedEx. I've already had them, right along with USPS and UPS just push stuff out of their trucks onto the driveway then drive off. Most of the products I purchased are right on par with what you would expect from Harbor Freight, which is fine, if you take care of them and do even the most basic maintenance, they will last quite a while.

I bought a 132LB one to use temporarily when my regular vintage anvil had a chip on the edge start to open up so not a long term use item just something to use in the meantime. Anvil itself is not bad for the money but has a stupid oversized hardy hole and the Pritchel Hole that everyone complains about doesn’t bother me because I use a large bolster plate to punch holes anyway so I do it right up on the flat face not even over the hardy hole. Shipping is a problem, FedEx took 4 days to move it in my state, would have took 2 hours to drive but took them 4 days and when it did show up the 1/8” thick plywood box was upside down blown apart and had a single layer wrap of plain packaging tape trying to hold the wood box together.

😣 That rubbery blue paint is heinous to remove. You’re giving me flashbacks over a year later 😂 but mine is a good copy as far as rebound. As I said somewhere else, after stripping I could see the induction hardening line and it’s over 5/8” thick which was surprising.
If they could move that pritchel it would be nice.
I’m not sure how DHL expected the tiny little girl who delivered my 132 to carry it - glad I was waiting on the truck. I don’t mind the horn shape, I went at the horn on my 66 and got it pretty conical so I have both shapes as needed.

I just had the "110lb" anvil delivered today. I thought it felt a bit light, so I weighed it. Turned out to be a 96lb anvil instead. The shipping was better than what you had in your video, in a thin (1/4 inch) plywood crate with metal straps around all the corners. The bottom of the anvil has a lot of kosher salt sized voids (collapsing sand mold or a slightly cold pour?) and even what looks like a 5/16 round dent in the footing, not the center like yours here. No Bondo that I can see. The top machined surface looks mostly okay, with only one tiny pit that won't cause issues. I've ordered but not yet received a forge, so I won't be able to test it for a while.

I used a similar style of anvil in the past, they are perfectly useable but the hollow underside makes them feel like a slightly lighter anvil under the hammer. If they came in the 200 to 300 pound size range with a properly hard steel face it would make a genuinely good anvil.

Your video says "Roy tests out the 44lb anvil and the 110lb anvil from Vevor. " ... But you don't TEST anything?? You comment extensively on the packaging, and on your experience with other anvils of the same ilk. You do talk a bit about flaw cover up with weld and filler, and the size of the holes. I can get you calling it a "review" or even an unboxing video, but a test? The information has value and is important, but ultimately has nothing to do with the performance of the product.
