  • Build your own Poultry Feeder Cheap and in very Easy steps. Learn how to DIY with i.am.Will
    So I had a bit of problem in my chicken coop when they started fighting over food due to food jealousy. In addition to breaking up fights in my chicken coop, I also had food wastage issue as a result of the fighting. I realised an open for all chicken feeder or trough was the problem. So I came up with this solution to build the trough in a way that the holes would keep the birds focused on eating rather than focusing of who is eating next to them. It worked and there was minimum to no wastage of feed. As for the fighting, I gave up. Its in their nature to fight whether they're full or not.

    After pre-drilling the holes, put the drill in reverse to make the larger holes. This makes for less PVC burrs and a lot less sanding off the rough edges.

      Thanks for the tip James, I'll definitely do better in the next project.
      Note: since the hole saw was homemade from a piece of metal pipe, the cutting teeth were not ideal to begin with :D

    good design, though if your coop already elevated why the need to have a hanging feeder as rats and mice should not be issues?

    • @AIS.FarmResorts
      @AIS.FarmResorts  3 роки тому

      The need to hang the feeder was not as a result of rats/mice. It was to prevent many issues including wood shavings getting into the feed when they are searching through the shaving or on hot days,, they dig the shavings on themselves to cool them up.
      It was also to prevent them potentially pooping into the feeder and spreading diseases.
      There're many other issues solved by hanging the feeder.
      Let me know if you have more questions/criticism/observations. Cheers

    Does 2 inches hole saw would be enough for the broiler chicken? Thanks

    • @AIS.FarmResorts
      @AIS.FarmResorts  3 роки тому

      Well it depends on the size and gender of the broiler chicken.
      An adult female may be able to feed from the 2 inch hole. But an Adult Male may struggle to enter the whole due to their large comb.
      I use a 2inch hole pipe for my layer hens because I don't want the roosters eating their layer mash. It works fantastic!
      good luck

    good efort bro. how many time you fill pipe a day?

    • @AIS.FarmResorts
      @AIS.FarmResorts  3 роки тому

      Thanks Bro. It depends on the size of the Pipe, the number of birds you have and their size.
      for 30 Chicks between 4-6 weeks, we filled it up twice a day.
      at 7-12 weeks, we filled it up 3 times a day.
      from 12 weeks on, we have more than 1 pipe so we filled them up twice a day (morning and late afternoon) to save time and work.
      hope this helps.
      PS: you can cut your workload by getting an 8" or 12" PVC Pipe. I will be doing a video of 8" PVC Pipe Feeder next month

      its actually quite easily done with water and sponge. just pre-soak it with water to soften any hardened toilet and clean with water without soap

      not really. you need a cup or container which has the size of the holes in the pipe. its easy to fill the pipe up that way
