My dad took me down to Brick Lane in the very early 90s. Was completely dead... He stopped and bought us bagels and we carried on walking. There was not a soul around for Miles it felt like. So huge respect for keeping the beigal bake open during the lean years.... There is some real truth to the owners claim.
Been getting brick lane curry's since about that time I spose, but yeah the city has spread itself out a fair bit since, doesn't really stop till you get to Croydon, Dartford or Watford now. Brick lane and all the other burbs are loosing their individuality.
I went to Brick Lane four years ago, never even heard of this place. It looked pretty unassuming but there was a long line so I got it. The meat was really tender and everything was balanced just perfectly. I still think about it and don’t know why we don’t have these here.
@Gemma Saint I used to work in the old truman brewery and would go between here and the yellow beigel shop 3/4 times a week on my lunch break. never got sick of them I live way out in Essex and the local beigel shops do not even come close. Here you get thinly sliced cold meat, dry as anything and just nasty. for 6£ Well worth the hr travel to brick lane for white shop beigels, tender, juicy and full of flavour.
Went for my first one yesterday. Honestly it's the best Sandwich i've had in my life and i've had a Pastrami on Rye from Katz's and a Beef on Weck in Buffalo. Everything about it is just perfect, the soft chewy beigel, the warm salt beef that's just falling apart, the kick from the mustard and the acidic sweet crunch from the gherkin just bringing it altogether perfectly.
I was lucky enough to have had it once in my life before I came back to my home country, Bangladesh. I have lived in England for almost 12 years and if i had only known about it before, i would have eaten it every week. Highly recommended.
Thanks for that awesome trip down memory lane. I lived in London for 8 years, and love that shop, especially late at night when you're out with friends and are famished. And for the vegetarians out there, the bagels on their own are great.
yeah but its literally the only place in the UK thast you can get 'deli' food', and all they serve is this - no coleslaw, no potato salad, no blintzes. If you like Jewish food, go to New York & Los Angeles.
I go there every time I'm near the shop on Brick Lane. Its not just their salt beef, pause at 2:01 for their menu. They also sell bread and desert pastries. Their prices have always been amazingly cheap but recently, they've gone up slightly, though I don't think that down to them. The local of government of their area is terrible.
Once a colleague of mine bought me a beef sandwich from this place and its an experience i wont forget. Had i known about this place earlier i would have visited it regurlarly. Alas my first time was my last time :-(
I grew up having these pretty regular, my dad would go to an AA meeting nearby weekly and would bring me one home afterwards. He just hit 26 years of sobriety, I'm vegetarian now but whenever I'm in the area I take one back home for him. Kinda miss the hit of too much mustard tickling the back of your nose 😂
Yes iam proud to say that ive been eating there , now for 40,years and it just gets better & better & better ) incredible place Brick Lane , Salt beaf ..
I read the comments and saw a lot of negative comments. Yeah it's boiled meat but it very good if you guys try it out. I'm Vietnamese and we have this as traditional dishes. And we even have this on pho or noodles too. And no it's not raw and it good for your health. We don't eat it with bread or sandwich but it very good. And you don't need more spice in it coz the water already make it spicey.
I'm irish and from rural kentucky in the u.s., i am familiar with corn beef and we make it from brisket, would this beef be similar to that without all of the pickling spices and curing ? is salt beef brined in a salt water solution and if so how long? , before it is boiled, or is the meat just boiled in salt water for 4 hrs ? Anyone across the pond from me know or know a recipe ?, i'd like to make it and try it, thank you in advance for replies,recipes,info,etc...
Thank you for sharing. This looks amazing. will defo come and try those salt beef butties. Toda Raba. Also a Big thank you for helping London stay an amazing place visit and try the multi cultural foods to offer in our amazing capital.
Their salt beef was rubbish when I went there in the late 80's and 90's. Next time I'm in London I'll stop by and check it out to see if it has improved.
If they added one step and twenty seconds to the process it would be much more appealing. Try slicing the meat thin on a slicer, like they do in New York . . .
same footages are repeated forever...:(

Well anything can get old after awhile. London really is a great city, so much to do. But I'm sure it's different for a native.
where is "here"?
@Gemma Saint so you're a millionaire?
@Gemma Saint Well, they say that when you're tired of London, you're tired of life.

1:28 says handmade, immediately bagel maker machine appears
ironic
I've seen a cafe offering "hand-brewed" coffee. Amazing skillz no doubt.
Eduardo Valdes it’s to TRANSPORT the bagels 🤦♀️
Iconic.
It only shapes the bagels, the volume that they make. It would be hard to do by hand shaping. Most bakeries use moulders too shape the bread.
I visited London for the first time this past week. This was by far one of my favorite dishes, I would love to go back for this!

Their bagels are actually amazing tho I used to go there all the time
I’m sure they meant homemade which indeed they are as they are not delivered by a vendor every morning.

Checks everything: chewy fresh bagel, big portion of salty cured meat, the tang of mustard & pickles... who can resist
This video could have been 30 seconds
so basically its a bagel with corned beef? love deli food
It's not corned beef, It's pure cut of braised beef. No corn
Ann Other Corned beef isn’t called that because it uses corn, it’s called get because of the salt that is used. Corned beef is just salted beef
ok my bad
@@annother3350 it is indeed corned beef

i like that owner thinks he single handedly brought life to brick lane.
According to some of these comments, there’s some truth to his statement.
They actually brought life BACK to Brick Lane . . .
Had these at Christmas, soooooo good, youve got an entires Aussie family wanting to come back to England for these!!!
New York pastrami sandwich, Montreal smoke meat sandwich and London for salted beef sandwich, have any of them?

Hardly call McDonald's manky.
damn it looks good!!

Now I got 2 put, “ travel to London for salt beef beigel.“ on my bucket list ✅
Those of you that want to try this place, nearest tube station is Aldgate East on the District and Hammersmith and City lines.
I stumbled into this last year and thought it’s bloody awesome. Funny seeing this here ha!
Damn if I ate one of those i'd fart a hole through my sheets
Who else is getting hungry from watching this video cause I am 😂😂😂
Terava Perreira Lomavita I already am hungry so.....idk
I legit work 5mins from here and wondered why there’s always a massive queue. Lol now I know

Everyone should go to Schwartzs Deli in Montréal QC Canada 🇨🇦 the smoked meat is wild! Better than NYC pastrami on rye
That place is really good.
That looks delicious.

I come here in morning after a night shift in Bow. It's normally empty. Always get a spare bagel as you easily get 2 portions of salt beef.
East London's gem ♥️ This makes me want to go home so badly! I miss the taste 😭
That looks good is there free shipping?
Check out their app ‘Beigel Bake’ I believe they deliver within a 4mile radius but they do have a delivery charge which is to be expected
my mom went to this spot 10 years ago when she went to london. i've always wanted to try that sandwich but never really got to.
I have been living in London my whole life and I have never ever heard of this. Interesting🤔
so I guess you've never met a Jewish person either?

I do.

London is a very big place.
Hadn't you noticed.
I work round the corner and have this at least twice a week!! Still my go over all the other things to Eat round Shoreditch/Brick Lane
I go here often, it could make me cry it’s so good.
"The bagels are handmade".. *goes through machine*
I guess, for them, "handmade" simply meant "one-by-one" as opposed to mass production in a factory.
Thank you for sharing. This looks amazing. will defo come and try those salt beef butties. Toda Raba. Also a Big thank you for helping London stay an amazing place visit and try the multi cultural foods to offer in our amazing capital.
From a life long London’er... no one is eating salt beef anywhere (except this one spot I guess...)
Yea, I’ve lived in London most of my life, never heard of this place
I miss it so much since I moved to New York but the pastrami sandwich at Katz deli is a fair trade off
Strange, when I went I remember getting about half as much meat. Maybe they were bulking up portions for the camera?
Miss that place so much right now
Professionals at work .
Cheap eats is dixy or your local chicken and chip shop
Going to London in may, I want to find some good local places to eat around Whitechapel road

You might be joking but that's clearly all cooked meat.
It's insane how much they recycle the same footage through the video.
Can I use smaller cuts of bone-in brisket to make salt beef at home?

Oh my God that brisket looks FANTASTIC.

Didnt know Albert Einstein sells bagels in London :)
that looks so good and hefty portions , would be better if they fire stoved the bagels though
Can it come without my allergies effect gherkin or mustard ?

Is the difference between 'salt-beef' and what we call in the States corned-beef the same as us calling pickles what others call gherkins?
blackcat3467 Yea man.
I've had it before and it taste so good 😋😋
Ah, so many fond memories...
I assume its kosher?
They are using a hose that has lead in it for food. Real smart.
These taste amazing !
That corned beef looks good.

Try slicing the meat thin on a slicer, like they do in New York . . .
Why? It's so tender that it doesn't make a difference. Plus it stays hotter for longer and doesn't dry out.
I wish I was in London. But I love Chicago!
