I moved to Spain 15 years ago from the USA. The USA was just getting too dangerous. Spain is so safe, the people are friendly and the Mediterranean diet has improved my health. I'm alone, but not lonely. I encourage anyone to move to the place where they are treated best. Good luck to everyone.

My husband and I moved to Spain also in 2021. We moved from Canada, which we have no plan of returning to. We are happy here. The warmth of the climate and the people is a huge factor in making us feel happy and content here.
I have lived alone for last 20 yrs because I refuse to waste time with superficial friends who wont be there if I hit hard times.

I’m real, and always interested in meeting real people and hopefully developing friendships with them. I live in central CT, so if you are near by don’t be afraid to get in touch. That goes for anyone who comes across this text. Btw, I’m not lonely nor do I need anything, I actually do pretty well for myself, I just like to help and learn from people, specially if they are good people.
Finally, someone who also can identify the reason why trying to make friends is worthless.
It’s very difficult to meet high value friends or male partners. I’d rather be alone than hang out with fake friends, two faced friends or mindless folk’s that that go along to get along to the point of damaging their own health!

Sometimes it’s not just the place you choose to live in, but mostly the toxic people you choose to get rid of 🤷🏻♀️
I left Germany 30 years ago for Thailand and never looked back.
All my bothering allergies and other health issues like chronic back pain vanished nearly over night, and I am now in my mid 70s healthier than in my previous life. What helped me most to overcome hardships on the way was the absence of doubt about taking that leap (simmering deep inside me since decades).
I adopted a new born child 27 years ago. I live with her, her boyfriend and her mother as well as our three beloved dogs together in a large house. After retiring from work at a prestigious
university 2 years ago, I now have all time at hand I wish for my hobbies: writing, cooking and baking, playing with the dogs, moderate sports like cycling etc. (while the others are out for work) and in the evening and weekend, there is family life as well, a good balance.
My advice for all doubters:
Do a lot of research before you go without coming back.
Start maybe with an extended vacation or a sabbatical. Most
important is the proper philosophy of life: nothing is granted, nothing is forever. Embrace change, don't
fear it. Good luck.
Congratulations to you Daphna andThomas on your move to Portugal, Thailand and what a great life you both have created for yourselfs. I moved from east coast of US to Honolulu about 10 years ago. I love my life here…I swim in the mornings, play pickle balls and have a community garden. Portugal and Thailand seems to me that would be much easier for me financially…I entertain the idea of moving again…it just seems that it would not be as easy at this time because I am 73 now. I do speak Portuguese because I lived in Brasil. And have visited Lisbon, unfortunately I was pick pocketed there….

I moved to France 7 years ago when I retired. I've been divorced for 20 years, so I live alone in a beautiful apt. I started joining expat groups almost as soon as I got here: we play golf, go to dinner, go to local jazz clubs, meet for coffee 3 or 4 times a week, and take trips together. After I stopped eating an American diet I lost 85 pounds. I sold my car during covid, so I walk everywhere now, which I really enjoy. I live 10 minutes from the bus station, 15 min from the train station and 20 mins from the center of town. Public transportation is cheap and excellent. I'm quite happy here. Life is good. **EDITED** several people have asked me why join expat groups. The reason is French bureaucracy can be daunting at times, but normally there are other expats who have been down this road before. They can be invaluable resources when first arriving.

@@lc7169 I went to college in France when I got of the Navy in 1972. I stayed for 2 years. I promised myself I'd return when I was ready to retire, and that's exactly what I did.

I've lived up a mountain in Portugal, in a renovated, off grid, donkey stable for over 10 years, We have an acre of chestnut and fruit trees.
I have peace when I want and I have made good friends here.
I wouldnt go back. I've just received my UK pension at 66, I could never survive on it in the UK but here, with no heating to pay for (wood from land), no mortgage (cost €25,000 in 2009) and a free health service, I can flourish :)

That was the right call. The UK is too expensive. I have been living in London for the past 7 years, but it is just crazy expensive. To have a good life here you need to be a millionaire.

this is what i've been thinking for some time. the uk I love but the issues are too numerous and too deep. I live in a busy asian city now and save £1000 a month, but I crave the countryside, peace, my own land-mortgage free and fresh air. I only worry about making enough money. I suppose the obvious thing is to get sons kind of online work. ❤

I moved to Portugal as a single person six years ago at the age of 62. I understand the feeling of being alone in a new country. That said, I am very happy to live here. It is a relaxed, safe and lovely country. The people are lovely too.

How about when the retirees get much older and need help. Is getting live in help or some kind of help affordable? I was thinking of Portugal, but leaning towards the Philippines because affording a nurse or live in help in the leader years is affordable there.
Portugal seems lovely but I am worried about the humidity for my asthma, so I think Spain might be a better place for me.

I came for work which ended with Covid, and I came to live with a friend who
died 7 months ago. I have a small business here now. (I shall be 70 this year.)
I miss my friend but I do not miss England!
I have lived alone since 1976. When I went to a divorce I am now 79 years old! The only time I ever felt lonely was when I was married, I guess because I was always expecting that person to show up to do things with, and he would be working late or have other commitments, and I would spend a lot of time alone at night! I really felt lonely since my divorce I can actually say I have never ever felt lonely. I actually enjoy being alone more than I do spending time with people! I find so many people create so much drama in their life it’s exhausting, my highest value is learning so when I’m alone, I can spend time learning about whatever I want to learn and never ever miss the company of people! It’s sad that so many people feel lonely these days. I am so blessed and thankful that I enjoy spending time alone more than I deal with other people! If I ever want the company of people all I have to do is pick up the phone or go visit a shop and I easily connect with other people! Congratulations on the decisions that you made you are a beautiful woman and I’m really happy for you and the life that you’ve created. It looks really beautiful.
I relate to your time of being married, but feeling alone. I, too, have had 22 years of this. Once my 15 year old starts college, I will be making my decision for change.

I share your sentiment. But the society is not designed for independence. How do you assemble IKEA furniture which requires two pairs of hands? Who looks after you when you are sick? Who backs you up and fights on your behalf when society throws you under the bus? Who watches your back in danger? Single people die needlessly from preventable deaths. Until we get nimble and smart robots 🤖, "independence" is little more than glossed-over banishment from society. I know, I've been "independent" forever.
But wait, there's more to it: man is not meant to live for himself but for his ideals. Therefore your isolation also represents a moral loss. It gives free reign and it hands over the control over the society to the enemies of everything that's good, true, and beautiful. With the results too familiar from daily news.

I moved to a country I have never been in my late fifties ,it was such a blessing and I met my husband. He is the most wonderful human being.

I’m an American and I moved to Thailand in 2012, when I was 48 years old. I had no expectations but in hindsight it was the best decision I ever made. Affordable housing, delicious inexpensive food, incredible natural beauty, friendly people, interesting culture and a language that has been challenging for my brain but very satisfying. I now enjoy a home in the city of Lamphun, near Chiang Mai, as well as a home in my girlfriend’s (of 5 years) village in the province of Mae Hong Son. By the way, I’m not rich but this life unfolded for me because I was open, willing and receptive to change and seized opportunities as they presented. I can relate totally to this video!
I concur. Been living in Thailand 18 years, visiting since the 90s. While much has changed, the pace of change is slower and the natural world is closer to daily existence, primary of which is THE SUN, the golden , brilliant , warm, broiling, soothing, luminous, radiant, healing and life- giving and abundant sun, with the agricultural plenty that it entails. And, according to Statista, Chiang Mai has the second most vegan/ vegetarian options per capita of any city but Phuket. I can attest to that claim for Chiang Mai.

Living near Jomtien ( Chonburi ) I emigrated from the UK & it’s the best decision I’ve ever made!
Very happy in my Thai country village in the NE of Thailand. Have been living in Thailand on and off for 30 years and I met my Thai wife about 17 years ago and over the last 15 years we had been slowly building and improving our Thai village house. Now its ready for retirement and i will permanently over there in the next year, even though last 3 years i have been semi retired spending 6 months every year there.
The fact that your psoriasis is almost completely gone says volumes. Someone being alone does not mean they are lonely. Keep your chin up 😊...

My experience traveling to another country is that I become free. I am free of the social expectations of my country. I feel a deeper connection with others because I don't concern myself with social protocol. I am me, intrinsically worthy, not having to prove anything. And wow, that feels so good!
So true. Well said. I think the expats are a separate type of a race, in it's own right. The longer you have been an expat- the harder it is to fit back into your original culture afterwards.
I am 63, sold the farm and moved to Spain from New York. I am very happy and bridged the gap between my European roots and the United Sates where I grew up. I am so happy and calm. 5 years ago, at 67, I left South Africa (alone with my rescue dog and 3 suitcaaes). It's been challenging and fulfilling at the same time. Gave up LOTS but gained so much as a reward. 😊

Very nice video! Congrats! I really liked it! I moved from Denmark to northern Greenland for 5 years when I was 15 years old. From there to Norway. Studied there and became a university professor in tropical ecology. Got married and had two kids but the wife died from cancer. Moved around with the kids or, when they were small, being a single dad in Norway. Then 20 years ago my kids were big and I moved to Africa. I was a university professor there teaching about wildlife, and sometimes I was in Norway to follow up with my kids there. Got married again, but after a few months, my new wife died in a car crash. We had a small kid together. Then my wife's mother died, and I adopted my late wife's sister. So now I have two small kids, 8 and 9 years old. They go to a nice private school but fortunately, they are home every day after school, and their aunt is there to help out. So is my Tanzanian grandmother-in-law. All is well with my kids in Norway and my kids in Tanzania. They are all doing very nicely in their lives. Now I have my Shamba (rural house with a farm) in Africa with family and friends around. I'm 69 years old now. So I am a lot older than you! It still worked out.

I live in the countryside in the uk. I love the countryside and am a country girl. I did my 20 years in London and enjoyed it back in the 8o,s but urban life now looks hellish especially London. I felt lonely as I got older but I just threw myself into working in the community, accessed the University of the third age, do air B n B , train problem horses, set up a literary festival and doing a film festival with the town council next year. I have been in the arts so keen to use my experience. You can stop being lonely by offering your skills to others.

Phenomenal video Daphna... I'm a 66 year old woman in search for a change. I am a resident of the United States in California. And I truly believe where you live affects your health. Like the food industry in the United States. Most of it is banned in other countries. That says a lot. I care about my health and well being. It's sad not feeling safe in your own country. I’m an Australian and 69 and also looking to move overseas by myself as well. I know it would take a lot of courage and I’m not sure if I can muster the energy and the will as I am starting to slow down with age but I just may be able to do it. I’m hoping anyway 🤗🥰

Having left the UK to move to Italy over 20 years ago, I can confirm you are right. This is not for everybody. If you are running away from problems they will follow you. Being open, getting outside the comfort zone and taking a risk eventually brings rewards but you have to integrate and that means speak the language. You look happy so may it continue.
Absolutely. Completely agree having moved to Portugal a couple of decades ago. The one thing that you should, if anything, avoid doing is getting too chummy with "expat communities" because that isn't a great start. Certainly not to integrating, becoming part of your new country and fully benefitting from the many delights of being truly a part of the community and society in which you live. And learning the language - besides being common sense - is just a basic and fundamental matter of respect for those whose country you live in.
For anybody thinking about doing this sort of thing, be very cautious with the whole "expat" thing. Please don't get attached to that way of thinking. "Expats" are people that are here today and gone tomorrow. Those that are "long term expats" are, I can almost guarantee you, are culturally isolated and definitely not the sort of people that the vast majority of natives of that country want as neighbours. Because, fundamentally, they're ignorant and continue to be so. Some of these people think that they "bring money and benefit the locals" but, honestly, they don't really benefit anybody. Least of all the locals.
The name of the game is integration. And being an immigrant is a badge you should wear proudly. It means that you care enough about where you live that you really want to be a part of it. And contribute as much to it as you take from it. And that, friends, begins with language, being respectful and being polite.
The best part comes when you forget you're a foreigner and your neighbours do, too. 'Cos it never really crosses anybody's mind. Being an "expat" you're almost saying that you want to stay "foreign" forever. And that isn't the smartest ambition to foster.

Visited San Miguel, Acores a few weeks ago. It was beautiful and a true breath of fresh air. Have spent time on Mainland Portugal, it's just not the same except perhaps towards the South Coast, Algarve area.
Wow, great video because I can relate. I left the US in 2018 with 2 suitcases. And like you I now go to the beach everyday. I'm much more happy and relaxed. I'm 72 now and I'm living my twenties over again. I was fortunate to meet a woman half my age to form a relationship that's lasted over 3 years now. And because my living expenses have been reduced so much, money isn't an issue like it was back home in the US. So thanks for sharing 😊😊😊😊
It is so true that happiness is about location. I've lived all over the world and have found happiness in the most diverse locations that weren't glamorous. It is about doing what you love and appreciating all that you have got.

I have never lived anywhere else. In fact, I've never traveled outside the US. I've never even had a passport. I'm 65. Yeah. So, there's that. But also I feel a strong urge to expat so as to leave behind the insanity called America. Such hate and fear and anger. It was always an undercurrent here. But now it threatens to tear the country apart. So, am I running away? Not really. Life is choice. And I choose to transition to something more sensible, more calm, more understanding and forgiving, even if it presents a bureaucratic nightmare. Alone? I don't have a problem with that. I seem to get along with me okay. I simply feel the need to spend my "golden years" somewhere love can prevail, even between absolute strangers. So now I find myself learning a new language, researching places that fit my soul, and planning to be elsewhere within the next ten years (I need a little time to rejuvenate my nest egg). I was starting to hedge on this idea until I saw your video. Thanks for the boost. See you...out there.
You’re not a tree….you can move🤣love that! It is true that if you don’t step out you won’t go anywhere. For me..the Lord guides my steps and energizes and protects my life. He gives me the strength and courage to move forward. And I am so blessed that He planted me here in a small town in Western Montana. At 75 I am the happiest I’ve ever been. All my friends were amazed I moved out of California to this place but I knew I had to do it to save my life. 🦋

Update: Wow! Just looked it up and it was on my list to check out. Reason being, a true mountain man and woodsman, Gary Edinger who wrote the book about his life, "Will to Live: A Saga of Survival" mentioned his favorite place to hunt and explore is the Bitterroot Mtns because they are so wild and the town you live in is the one he mentioned he frequented. I'm excited to explore this option! God bless!
Welcome to my country! I lived in several countries and returned to Portugal after 25 years. It's always difficult to move to another culture, new burocracy, new laws, different ways of living... so the first year is always the most difficult. But you will fall in love for Portugal! All the luck and all the happiness!
@nunop6606 gosh I wish I had the guts to make a move like that, the 180 degree different everything is what scares me I guess, I was thinking of moving to the Villages in Florida,55+ community, very popular, they call it the kindness culture, honestly, thats all I'm looking for, safety, friendly and of course affordable, but being alone to make this decision is what's holding me back the most from making any decision

Sou um britânico (galês) no Alentejo. Eu sei que para muitos portugueses há problemas com o custo de alojamento e vida em Lisboa, etc., mas para quem tem dinheiro suficiente (mas não tanto ca em Portugal em zonas como ca no Alentejo ... longe de Comporta e aquelas casas construídos para estrangeiros ricos) para viver em conforto, sem preocupações, o país é um espectáculo. E para crianças, sem dúvida, é um país mais saudável que o Reino Unido, por exemplo. Para mim não foi difícil integrar na comunidade deste município rural onde quase ninguém fala a lingua inglesa. E onde não quero falar inglês com ninguém.
A minha mulher é uma portuguesa mas hoje em dia ela percebe Portugal mais como eu, um estrangeiro. Quer dizer que ela veja mais valor ca a da mais valorização aos fortes deste país do que no passado. E especialmente no interior do país, como Alentejo ou Beiro Alto, Beiro Baixa, Trás-os-Montes, Minho, etcetera e as zonas que são mais "escondidas" mas ainda "fundamental" ao carácter deste país que a maioria de estrangeiros conhecem.
Não seria possível para mim voltar ao Reino Unido e não posso imaginar fazer isso. E quando estou a dizer "Sou um britânico", estou a mentir. Hoje em dia sou mais português do que britânico. Mas... talvez... sem queixar tanto.... 😀... porque obviamente estou aprender ainda o arte de ser português! 🤣

I also live in Portugal, on the Silver Coast. My husband and I moved 2.5 years ago. We now have a dog and so many friends from all over the world! Being bold about starting a new online business at 68 years young. 🥰 It is much more peaceful here than in the US.

I know what you mean about scrolling endlessly through media! I have been alone for 20 years but I reduce stress and anxiety by playing guitar, trekking in the Lake District (UK), singing (used to perform at resorts and clubs) and keeping healthy with a low carb diet (very important). Costa Vicentina, Setúbal, Silver Coast, Madeira and Algarve are incredible regions to live by the sea in Portugal but if you are a Nature lover you will love Minho/ Gerês region and nearby you have Galicia in Spain that is a very beautiful region to live in Europe too. All of them are peaceful too but getting more and more expensive because more and more people are discovering them and want to settle there. My advise is to buy a villa nearby the sea and a van and go everywhere explore the south and north of Portugal and Europe, it’s the best way to live when you are getting older...your never bored, lots of adventures and experiences and there are lots of parking spots for your van in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, etc...the thing is in Portugal you will live longer and healthier because due to the Atlantic Ocean our fish and seafood get you the best nutrients, it’s richer the best seafood and fish in the world...nothing beats grilled fish or seafood looking at the ocean expecting an epic sunset👍🏻🤗

Hello Dapha, I am Portuguese but lived in UK for many years. My husband and I moved to the Algarve (Portimão) in 2019 as we wanted to enjoy a calmer happier life. We had many plans together but unfortunately the rug was pulled under our feet and two became one ( my husband became ill and passed away in 2022). So, I am concentrating on moving forward alone and find new dreams alone but not feeling lonely. I appreciate your words of feeling happy, calm and centred in fact i call it SERENITY. Hello, I moved from France to Thailand more than 10 years ago, for one very good reason : i married a thai citizen ;)
I left everything behind me. I closed my business, sold my house, say goodbye to my kids and i arrived in Thailand with a 35 kgs suitcase.
It was really difficult at the beginning. I had got homesick everyday.
But now, i succeeded to built a new life with other point of interest, more centered on seeking quiet and peacefull life. Now, I really feel happy too.
As you, this new life helped my body to relax and fix from disease.
I wish you more and more serenity and happiness.
Thailand for Thai people. Your just a pollution. Buying Thai women, buying Thai realestate. Until 1945 it was legal for Thai families to sell their daughters but the practise still goes on as you well know !
I’m planning on doing the same very soon! Going back to Thailand for another visit in November to have a think about everything and make sure I am ready to make the move. Some of my family already live abroad and my cousin has just sold up and looking to move and settle somewhere else too! UK is not for me anymore it does not feel safe and it does not feel the same as it was when I was growing up I feel unsettled and I always feel happy when I’m in Thailand

Thailand as an expatriation location seems to be easy but, in real, this is full of constraints for europeans. The language is complicated, the heat is rough in hot season, the distance from Europe make travelling expensive and tiring. We must add to this all the requirements linked to immigration.

Only the bureaucracy makes it hard: visa requirements, 90 day reports to immigration, etc. The weather is easily adapted to by engaging in outdoor activities: last week I rode 90 minutes in 40 degree C heat on two separate days. I ride an average 60 minutes a day in the heat. It’s a thousand times easier to adapt to than -10 or - 20 C. After rest, rehydration, I now don’t sweat so much and 36 feels comfortable. The language is no more difficult than English, French, Russian, German , Japanese, Mandarin, bahasa Malayu , Telugu, Arabic, etc. It only takes application, memory, dedication. Basically, if you have money, any, safe place can be adapted to. Oh, I forgot to mention, the cost of living is about 1/5-1/8 that of any municipality in Canada or the US. It’s very easy to adapt to that.

I think that Portugal has a psychotherapeutic effect. It is warm and flourishing, but there is hidden sadness. Ruins of church, reminding about an earthquake, cold ocean, poor outskirts, not renovated houses. But at the same time a great power of life, that helps to cope with problems in past and restore inner strength.
My health has struggled so much over the years from the stress and hardships of my daily life. People underestimate how the body responds to stress, anxiety, and mental health. I’m so glad you found your happy place. I hope more people can learn from you and find their happy places. Thanks for sharing your story.
So true.. Through the stresses over the last few years, my thyroid went topsy turvy, and now I have graves disease which comes and goes. I'm hoping to move away from London in the not too distant future. I'm 62 working 4 days a week and this place is definitely not good for your wellbeing.

This video was on my recommended list and I'm happy I've watched it as it hits close to home. I'm 53, italian woman and I've lived in several countries in Europe and outside Europe ( Turkey, United Emirates), now back home to look after my elderly mother.
One day I'll be on my own and I'll move again. Not sure whether it's gonna be in Europe or not, but I wanna live by the sea and have a very simple life, with dogs and cats. I have no husband or kids by choice so I'm free to go anywhere.
I'm already trying to get info about a bunch of countries but knowing myself I know I'll just pack my stuff and go where life takes me, which might be a place I'm not planning to move to right now.
Life's full of surprises and I love that 😊

I just moved to Phoenix, Arizona after a couple of years in Florida, I just took the leap of faith and did it. I been single for three years and it's been a blessing because it's bought so much healing to my well being, new insight on life. I have a new career and, travel when the moment hits me. I am alone but not lonely. I have no children, feeling good about myself and not rushing into companionship. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I moved from England to Brittany in 2003 after my wife developed bipolar disorder and disillusion with our life in London. Sadly her condition got so bad we had to divorce.
Since then I live here alone. I have some friends but much of the time its just me and my dog.
I study, travel a bit, go to a restaurant once a week, visit the local bar. I have a motorbike, go clay shooting and fishing, bicycling, walking.
My stress levels have fallen right down, I no longer bite my nails 😊. Where I live is very rural, no obvious crime, its clean, well run....lots of culture and history.
And the Breton coast is world class.

Eating a mango anywhere is reason to be happy. I am very comfortable being alone. At times I feel more lonely when I am with people than when I am alone BUT I do know that sharing a living space with an other person makes life more enhanced. However I am a firm believer that romantic relationships are richer when the participants live under different roofs. There is value to voluntary separation. I am happy for you that you have found a place of happiness. The truth is that wherever you are, there you are. One can never escape oneself. The work starts with getting to like oneself. Is it acceptable to wish someone "Hamsa!". If it isn't, it should be. These days we need all the help we can get.

A friend of mine had a beautiful marriage and now that she is widowed, she can’t face her solitude. She is in a constant state of terrible pain and longing for the past. All these therapists she’s seen are quite shallow and she actually finds them a great waste of money and time. Obviously what she needs is a change, but she is not young anymore and the loss of her lifelong love aged her further. It’s a blessing to find a true inner peace as we age and our human connections become weaker.
Thank you so much for this Daphna. I moved to the South ofFrance from UK six years ago just before Brexit took away freedom of movement rights. The reason I did it was to work with someone on a project that required us to be together. I had no intention of staying, but many things happened that delayed my return - including Covid and other personal issues. In the end though I just asked myself, do I actually want to return? Do I need to? Like you I found the language and bureaucracy difficult here, and it was just difficult in all sorts of ways adjusting to a new place. But things settled down, and I now realise I am happier and healthier. And you articulated my own feelings so well. Before I used to go to the Mediterranean and I was always concious that I had to return to my stressful life in the UK. Now I don't have to.

Bin den ganzen Tag in einem sozialen Beruf komplett in Beziehungen und erfülle Bedürfnisse anderer, Vor allein sein eigentlich keine Angst, eher vor dem doch Heimweh bekommen l Dir alles Liebe auch.. Warum fühlst du dich nicht ( mehr) gut in Deutschland ?
I retired to Portugal in 2018, I no longer have any living family members
and moving here was one of the best things I've done in my life.
However, I think anyone considering such a move needs to truly
understand who they are as a person in general, what excites them or
annoys them, how they react to the unknown and have they
done enough appropriate research about where they want to go
etc etc etc. Have met too many people who basically saw such
a perm move in terms of it being a 'perm holiday' and not
concentrating enough on the practicalities of everyday issues
they would face in a new country.

Moved to Mexico and lived on the Carribean , then South America. I was in my mid 50s. At 60 I was inspired to return to US to finish a Dream I have here. I needed the break, but it's not over. I also fell in Love with the States again. I took the best of both Worlds, and I'm signing a deal concerning my Dream now. This has given me my Third Wind. When I live on the Beautiful Sea again (I live on Lake Michigan now in a condo I own, so costs much lower for me) it will be even richer. I am free spirited and I am running with the horses!
I'm planning on moving from the UK as soon as I can financially - purely based on the weather here!! 🙂 I really feel that the lack of sunlight is detrimental to health x

Hi Daphna. I really appreciate this share. I am going to move to the island of Crete before the end of this year. I will be moving alone without knowing anyone. Luckily, as an artist, I found a gallery on the island interested in my work. I am moving because unless I win the lotto or create a highly successful business, I will have to work until I drop dead if I continue to live in U.S.A. I recently was able to get my Greek citizenship which should make things a little easier. And, I still have to brush up heavily on being conversational in the language. I don't think I'll miss California. I used to live in France years ago when I was first married, and I really prefer the European lifestyle. Being Greek, I think getting back to my roots is going to be the right move. And, by the way, I'm 67... still in great shape and live a healthy lifestyle. I'm certain that living on Crete will only help to embellish my life. And, if you're ever in Crete, give me a shout! Cheers, George 😉

I watched many vlogs of people from all other the world who moved to Russia and they love it. Russia is not what western media portraying (don`t believe everything you see in the media). I've always wanted to leave. I did so for the first time in my mid 30s, going to a place that I didn't expect to like but where I had opportunities my home country (Netherlands) didn't offer... Turned out to love it, in Florida, I was much healthier there and my happiness baseline was much higher there, but the opportunities collapsed.
In my mid 40s, I left again, for England, with the intention of moving on to the States again a few years later. Instead I stayed for nearly two decades.
I'm currently in my home country again and yes, I want to leave again. Countries all have pluses and minuses and we weight them on the basis of what is important to ourselves. The balance then can make you want to relocate. Our surroundings are an important factor for our happiness, research has shown, so it's not that strange.
One comment about something that matters big time: you didn't move to Portugal with only four suitcases. You moved to Portugal with four suitcases and enough money in your bank account and a source of income.

Life is an adventure and we should make the most of it while we can 💗 I've always embraced change and I know exactly what you mean about once you leave the place you were familiar with, it changes you on such a deep level, that you will never go back being the same person that left. Stepping out of one's comfort zone is the magic to enjoying this one life we have been gifted with.
I am glad you have found your peace. Our glorious government here in the uk locked down my business in March 2020 resulting in the loss of my home, my business and my savings. They left me with nothing and now at 66 i live in a van watching the destruction of my country.
However I can watch your video and for a few minutes and escape the prison I have been forced into.

I was ripped away from my Country Greenland at a young age, we were sent to boarding schools in Europe - I do miss my roots .. I was immigrating to Canada, but then I found my wife and had to stay - Now 61, and a stroke later I still release my Music from the 80s and live through it today 🙂

Well described. My experience after multiple countries is that it takes a year to build the start of a new social circle and it will depend on your own initiatives. The people around you in your new country intend well but all have already full lives.

Refreshing because your words feel very genuine. You talk about the positives and the negatives of moving abroad alone. Also, I love the idea of the universe providing and needing to take the leap! I’m in my 50s and the idea of feeling like I’m in my 20s again and taking a risk and adventure is refreshing 😊

I left Japan when I was 21. Now I'm 50 have been living in the US since then. I've been feeling the urge to leave again lately... just don't know where to move yet. Maybe it will happen when my youngest son is done with high school. Thinking about this makes me feel good and hopeful :)

This is about my 3rd or 4th video of you that i have seen in the past 6 months or so and you seem to be doing very well for yourself and credit to you young Lady.Im 51 this September myself and have worked in the Construction Industry for over 30 years and love turning around old properties from old Georgian/Victorian to new builds in my City.I've been to Portugal many times in a past relationship on 2 week holidays and fell in love with the place and made a decision then that Portugal will be where i lay my hat.Your move seems to have put you in a good place mentally physically and may be spiritually also which is great to see.I just want to touch on what you said about your own Country and how it feels these days and yes your right it has changed so so much in the past 10 years or so for me just doesnt feel the same anymore and i love my Country very very much BUT is it for me for the next 30 odd years no is the answer must be something in the water.As your single and i dont know why 🤔 and dont want to know either, how about getting yourself a little Pal a dog that will be the first thing on my list when i do get to Portugal that will give you a bit company and keep on your toes 😂.If you are thinking of getting a dog may i suggest a European Doberman best dog in the world they have a nickname as the velcro dog won't leave your side best friend you could ever ask for.Anyway thats it from me for tonight and i have just subscribed,see yeah take care enjoy the sun and the peace and quite Portugal gives you im very envious but I'm not far behind you now at this stage.
