  • Earl Strickland accused Efren Reyes of Being Lucky in This Match, Efren Reyes Moments-PoolTrickShots
Along their careers as pro pool players, both the Magician Efren “Bata” Reyes and Earl “the Pearl” Strickland have faced against each other countless times. Their matches are always amusing to watch because both players are considered as two of the greatest pro pool players of all time. That’s why they’re the ones chosen to play in single-match events named Color of Money and Color of Money II. Among those matches between Efren Reyes and Earl Strickland, there’s one match that seems to be quite underrated because the match didn’t take place at the top of a pool tournament, but just in the third round of a pool tournament, thus making it an insignificant tournament. However, it’s not Strickland if he doesn’t make something common dramatic because in the match, he accused Reyes as being lucky for winning the match. So, how did the match that took place in the third round of the 2006 International Pool Tour North American Open 8-Ball Championship? Here it is.
    Number 5.
Pre-match interview. Before Earl Strickland and Efren Reyes had their match in the third round of the 2006 IPT North American Open 8-Ball Championship, they were both interviewed. In the interview, Strickland was asked whether he was intimidated by Reyes because Reyes was the champion of the first IPT event in 2005, the IPT King of the Hill 8-Ball Shootout. However, instead of answering yes or no, Strickland answered with a bold statement, saying that it was Reyes who felt a little pressure when he knew that Strickland was playing well. That’s a very bold statement for a player who was going to face against the champion of the event before, or we can say, the defending champion of the event. However, that’s how Strickland is. On the other hand, Efren Reyes stated in another pre-match interview that he had to concentrate and play well, especially with the likes of Strickland. He also said that he’s always nervous no matter who he’s facing. Now, that’s Efren Reyes for you! He always has great attitude and sportsmanship.
    Number 4.
Rack 10. Let’s jump to the tenth rack of the match between Efren Reyes and Earl Strickland in the third round of the 2006 IPT North American Open 8-Ball Championship. In this point, the score was 5-4 with Reyes leading the match. He was also the one who made the break shot in the tenth rack. Fortunately, his break shot was strong enough to be able to pocket a ball. After that, he just calmly pocketed the other 7 balls one by one, including the last ball, the 8-ball, and eventually won the tenth rack, leaving Strickland sitting on his chair the entire rack. With that, the score became 6-4 with Reyes still leading the match.
    Number 3.
Rack 12. Let’s jump again to the twelfth rack. However, the eleventh rack was won by Earl Strickland, thus making the score become 6-5 with Efren Reyes still leading the match. The twelfth rack started with Strickland making the break shot. Unfortunately, his break shot wasn’t strong enough to pocket any balls. So, it was Reyes’ turn next. Reyes didn’t waste the opportunity and started to pocket striped balls one by one until there were no striped balls left on the table. Then, he aimed for the 8-ball and pocketed it with ease, allowing him to win the twelfth rack. With that, the score became 7-5 with Reyes still leading the match. So, it means that Reyes was only 1 rack short to be able to beat Strickland in the match because the match was a race-to-8 match.
Well, that’s the match between Efren Reyes and Earl Strickland in the 2006 IPT North American 8-Ball Championship where Strickland accused Reyes of being lucky. I liked Efren’s comment, “If you didn’t make the shot, how could you win?” I used to race motocross, and when the other guys were mad at me I used to say, “I’m easy to beat, all you have to do is just go a little faster.”

LOL. Earl said Efren was lucky just to get under his skin. That's called playing mind games, psychological warfare. I'm almost certain that deep inside, Earl knew Efren was one of the greatest ever. In fact, during Efren's Farewell Tour in Germany, Earl said that the Filipino was the best he's ever played against.
Everyone knows Earl is such a character, very competitive to the point of being unpleasant against opponents. Some might even describe him as ornery but against Efren he's...just different. The respect he has for him is unmistakable. If you're familiar with these two, you know what I'm talking about.

    • @godjhaka7376
      @godjhaka7376 10 місяців тому +1

@MichaelJMusic69e'll be scared of SVB titles, as no living human or Filipino can touch his titles. So your "top guns" aren't that good. Filipino Efren could only win 1 US Open 😂 while Earl and SVB are the only humans alive with 5 each, and earls last title was over 23 friggin years ago. SVB the only human alive to win 3 in a row. Filipino Efren is just good all around player but not master or specialist of anything. So Efren or any Filipino currently have any special exclusive title no one else already has, unlike SVB or Earl.
Be afraid of that: titles, achievements, what people can really do. If your top gun so good tell them to win some US or world titles because I don't see them touching SVB or Earl

    • @godjhaka7376

I don't like luck as it's not predictable. "The more I practice, the more god-like I become." As we tape into the god within is all. And being a lefty means I'm already at god level compared to right hander (Google it to learn something new).
Funny thing Efren really is lucky, that's why he could only win 1 US Open no matter how much he tried (only coming in as a runner up) but Earl has 5 lol. All Earl titles out shadow Efren by far as Earl has titles as the only human on earth, no title Efren has is special or exclusive .

Just 9-ball, Strickland was just as good as Reyes. People hate that for some reason, but it's the flat out truth. I guess it's Earl's personality, but to me he was a competitor. Yeah sometimes he ran his mouth and said stupid stuff, but he just wanted to win. I think that it always bothered him that at the height of pool's popularity in America, being American, people rooted for Reyes over him. Reyes was a likeable guy and a great person, it's impossible to not love the guy - I just think that Strickland felt disrespected.

Words can’t throw his game off. He’s a very kind person and never went down to earl’s level, kept always king comments, humble demeanor, and a positive attitude! I never heard him talking bad of any opponent ever! Great guy!

The Reyes Strickland rivalry produced consistently interesting matches. No blow outs, amazing shots from both players and a fast pace. Such rivalries are a rarity in sports and games. During Efren's farewell tour, Strickland publicly stated that Efren was the best. But i once read somewhere that Earl has a winning record against Efren. I wonder if that's correct.

I dont think the break is Efren's biggest weakness like alot of people think. I think his ability to bail himself out of a rough spot is so strong, he at times, didnt make sure he stayed on the proper side of his next ball. He rarely under-rolls position, he almost always over-rolls, because of the length and power of his stroke. Thats from playing in harsh conditions in the Philippines

Accused, is not the word, claimed is more like it. You're starting a controversy, between the two.

Efren is better than Earl. You do not say Lucky in a race to 120 win racks held in Hong Kong " The Color of Money with the Price Money of 100 thousand US Dollars.

Yes its true but its because hes so passionate about the game/sport of pool hes obsessed with it so much so that he thinks nobody really appreciates the game and has done more for the game of pool then earl has so when he loses i think he gets upset because to him its not a game its his life to other players its just a game and hobby and it pisses him off and honestly i get where hes coming from.. if you really listen to earl behind the excuses and anger there is a lot of truth behind what he says in the most insane way but it truly does make sense.. hes a disturbed man this game has literally driven him ape shit hes had everything and lost everything from his addiction too pool so please have some sympathy for this man he truly needs it i know it seems hard to believe..
