I'm so impressed! My hubby is the lighting tech in a small local theatre so I've been in the box a lot during shows and this does not happen there! In fact, if it's an am dram company, they have one of their own volunteers on sound so it's very much, if you are on stage you're mic is on and, hopefully, vice versa!

Andy Vlogs I had to write about the sound effects and the atmosphere that they created for a musical I saw and I watched The Addams Family in Manchester earlier this week.

Watching the Sound no. 1 mix the show was fascinating! It looked similar to playing an instrument or something- do they have a rehearsal period before the show first starts to learn all the cues etc? And do they have a script as such throughout the show to work from or is it all done by memory? Thanks Andy for filming behind the scenes! X

Lydia M good questions! Rob learns the show during the tech rehearsals and refines the show. He has a scrip with what mic needs to be up and at what level. What you saw bits of is called line by line mixing when he turns the person who's line it isn't off! Takes practice not to clip lines and things. He is currently "off book" and doesn't use his script. He has done it a lot of times! Hope this answers your question!!! Thanks for watching!

Amny Shows Like the One's I do sound for. We prefer a script sometimes just to let us know what's going on. We have a bunch of notes on our scripts, like mic numbers, cues, etc. He's an amazing sound engineer, if he can remember all of the cues, and fader positions like that!.

Before Laura played the soundeffects on the keyboard it sounded like she played something from twilight did it not? At 02:03

Hey Andy, I really enjoy watching this video and have always wondered during When You're an Addams he puts the 2nd Control Group up on the centre bank, judging by the timings of when it's put up and back down again, I presume it is the clicks but where were the clicks coming from? Was it a drum pad click or an actual microphone off stage with the company clicking or something else? Thanks mate.

Love this video series, can't wait for more!
Do you mind me asking how you got into lighting? I realise this is a slightly odd question to ask on a sound video but I've been meaning to ask since last week :p

Virgin Violinist not a problem'o! I started life as an actor then worked as "local crew" for a summer and when I came back from summer brake I changed uni course to be a general technician. From there I specialised and have worked my way up to lx 2!!
Any questions just ask! Happy to answer or pass the question on to someone more qualified!

Is your lighting and sound paired by OSC or is it still on MIDI?

Ah cool! I recently had my first experience working with OSC and I loved the way it looked. Makes calling a show much easier as well!
