Very informative session Scotty! Thanks for sharing, I only fished from a kayak, I learned a lot from this channel, this is how I caught my 1st pinkie 👌
Great to hear! Plenty of good places in easy reach of kayak. the yak moves a bit slower so get better soundings also easier to hover over a good mark when you find one.
@@Saltfix ive been in oz for 6 months. yours and rushgangs videos have been so valuable in being able to catch some decent fish when im new on the water 🙌
@@marksshepherd4280 good to hear mate. Myself and Jack just love being out there . Neither are experts (Jack is better than me) but we get out heaps and enjoy the experience
Nice action. I hope that brings a smile to your face. By the way I noticed you have the same plastic fishing trays I had on my boat. Found I had to keep replacing the broken bits eg broken hinges on the lids I replaced by inserting heated metal line crimps, the black rubber seal… a little glue. Broken plastic clips to hold tray in place… replaced with some foam rubber.
Thank you again for sharing your knowledge, especially how you showed me on the sounder that you place your boat right on the edge. I'm going to clear my previous tracks on a reef that I fish off NSW. I really appreciate what you do and how you share with others.
Great episode mate It’s reassuring to hear you say that it’s been difficult to get a snapper Im putting the hours in too but not getting much in return but that’s fishing Maybe we need a big front to come in and stir it all up Any update on the podcast?
People are curious to scotty. That's the reason I have a rope bucket with 300 metres in it. So if people get to close I clip the extra rope on and wack it into reverse 👍
people are curious, of where you are fishing, there is plenty of space out there no need to zip close by other boats unless you are marking their spot.its pretty obvious. spots come and go i just dont like them running past and scaring any fish that may be mooching
Hi. Can you please advise tje orientation of your mapping in this video? North up, heading up or course up? Did you use shaded relief on your map? How did you first determine there was structure (maps or the 2d sonar)? It appears as though you placed your anchor into the actual reef to allow the stern to just clear edge of reef - is this correct? How confident are you in retrieving your anchor after being placed into reef? Cameron
Geez , details . 😂 Heading up. No shaded relief If the map goes from 8m to 15 it’s going to be rocky hard bottom Anchor was on the top of the reef in 9m wind blew me along and off a bit. Anchor placement depends on wind or current. I use a boomer Anchor. The best reef anchor you can get . Has a breakable pin so it always comes back and won’t get stuck boomeranchors.com.au/
@@Saltfix Many thanks for this reply. Good work. Is there a real time app you would recommend for determining direction and strength of current at your current location on the water? I find it hard and time consuming to do this using drift with boat, etc.. Can you also recommend some youtube videos on learning /identifying structure in relation to your boat? I am still having some learning gaps in this space. Thanks
The snapper arnt getting taken. Not at all. They are stronger than they have been in years in my book. We have had a lot of clear water this summer which they arnt that keen on. Water has been a little warmer to. Wait until it cools down a bit more and they will be back. As for Dhufish size. Fisheries can shove it. If im fishing shallow, a fish under 50 in going back. If i was out deep and got a 40cm dhu, and the thing was pretty well dead, then i would take it. As far as im aware, most people go by the rules i just mentioned now.
Im with you if its shallow and the lil dhu is in good condition its going back. and from what ive seen most people are doing the same. its the whole reason I dont fish much deeper than 20m after that you get heaps of small baldies and they always die, small dhu and snap can sometimes be ok if you go slow but I hate bringing up small fish I know are dead. Id argue a lot more snapper are being caught now (and Dhu) than say ten years back , tech has got way better ,population has increased and more people are getting better from social media basically spelling out how to catch fish, IM Guilty of adding to it. yeah the clear water has been hard work. got one today in the nice green stirred up water.
Nice one Salty. You took it nice and steady on that snapper. Sure was a great dinner 👍🏼
Cheers Col
It's definitely better when the fish are respectful. 😅
Getting later to get out there in the dark again now and not too cold yet...
Damn disrespectful fish , whats become of the world?
Cracking vid and two great fish! Great tips on where to anchor…..structure is one piece of the puzzle for sure!
Thanks Michael .
Just general stuff really , sure there are a lot more details to work out, just talking through my theory’s.
The Nemo theory 😂
Great to see you putting the small Dhuie back, totally agree with you.
Yeah most people I talk to are on the same page
Bloody awesome video, Scotty - as usual. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. 🙏🏼

Nice catches, same thing with me I can’t take the smaller dhuies I feel bad even tho they’re legal
