    That looks like a hell of a lot of fun, gliding over the water like that. The first times must feel so strange. Thanks for sharing!

      Hey Yuval, yeah, it was a lot of fun. It was actually after the battery died that I finally got the feeling for it and the real sensation of flying. it was cool. lots more to learn though. i will add it ot the next video :)

    Lake Nitinat! The best wind in the world! I was there last year - all those memories just came back. I am starting foiling too, water starts and short rides on both sides.

    Great video, glad to see more content again. Would love to see a build video on the conversion of the regular board to a foil board.

      Hey Mr Yella, yes thanks, we are finally getting back into film so many more to come. And great! I will make a video on the DIY conversion I did :)

    Cool video! Been doing the same thing filming the learning to foil and came across your video! Well done holding the gopro while learning to balance the foil at the same time.. =) Looking forward to seeing the next one!

      I will do! Been thinking of a good mount a bit of distance away from the board so that my hands are free for foiling and balancing.. still work in progress!

    Weird question but what were you putting the GoPro on that you could change positions so much? I am looking to film my foil learning as well for family entertainment and this looks like a good set-up.

    Where do you put your back feet? With the bolts sticking out I imaging you'd have problem finding the sweet spot

    Nice one! Just started foiling as well, at roughly the same stage I reckon. Definitely a big rush when you get up! How's the Roam compared to the Prodigy? Would like to get a bit more drift and pivoting without the power, but don't want to lose out on the upwind... Good luck with the foiling!

    • @FlukesKitesurfing
      @FlukesKitesurfing  6 років тому +1

      Oh awesome! Yeah, keep me posted on your progress too. The prodigy is sweet! But If you want pivot and drift, go the Roam, it is an epic kite. To be honest, it says the upwind isn't as good, but I can't tell the difference. The upwind is fine, and for my riding, the benefits of it are worth it :) We have a flite as well, and use that for light wind when upwind is most important, and then use the roams in all other conditions.

    Great video , as always! Would you suggest starting with a strapless surfboard before attempting foiling?

    • @FlukesKitesurfing
      @FlukesKitesurfing  6 років тому

      Thanks Martin! I would say you could likely learn to foil never having ridden strapless before, however it will help a lot. Particularly when it comes to waterstarts, jibes, tacks, and toeside riding. The weight is very different to strapless, as you are distributing your weight more over your front foot... So it is by no means the same as strapless surfboard riding, but I think there is some cross over as above. Plus strapless is sick so you should try it anyway ;)

    Luke, how did you convert the old surfboard to a foil board? Did you strengthen that area with fiberglass? Did you drill the four holes large, fill with epoxy and then re-drill to the size of your bolts? or how did you seal the holes? are you still foiling? Thanks, Dave

    • @FlukesKitesurfing
      @FlukesKitesurfing  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Dave, I did drill 4 holes, but then no, best not to fill with epoxy as it will get to hot and cause issues. the way i did it was drill 1" holes, then epoxy in, a rod or dowel. You can buy composite rod which is perfect, but i didn't have any so i used oak dowel. (oak seems to work ok but im not confident its 100% water tight so if you are building something properly, the composite rod would be better). Then, 3 layers of 6oz cloth top and bottom, then drill through the whole thing for the base plate. As rustic as the whole thing is, it works like a dream. still working, no issues :)

    Hey Luke, if you attach some webbing to the top of your mast bolts you can use it as a handle to get the board angled properly which makes starting strapless much easier. They way you are doing it now works with the short mast but once you move to a full length mast you'll need to use your hand to grab the rail of the board or attach a handle. You can see my setup and how I use it here: ua-cam.com/video/66dVthh_lGo/v-deo.html or here: ua-cam.com/video/jH5-M7G-HMs/v-deo.html

    great video Luke! Bit of a dumb (and offtopic) question: was that a mouth mount? Where were you putting it? inside the vest?

    • @FlukesKitesurfing
      @FlukesKitesurfing  6 років тому

      Hey Giuseppe, I wanted to use my bite to mount, but that battery was dead, so i actually took out our gopro on the pole, and then yeah,. Stuck it down my vest when I wasn't holding it. I wouldn't recommend it though... Dangerously close to hitting my chin a few times. :/
