- Hi. My name is Darek and in this video I'll show you The Drill HACK 1 Tapping Machine.
I used a broken AEG drill which, unfortunately, I could not fix, an old drill stand which I did not use anymore, a cheap cordless drill and taps (link below)
As you've seen on video, the tool works very well. It easily handles threading on m10 screws. I have not tried a screw m12 or m14 because I rarely use such sizes, but I am sure that it will also handle such taps.
If you want to do something like that, pay attention to the chuck because it must have a lot of downforce and have jaws in very good condition. It's best to use a new brand name. In this case, I do not recommend a self-locking handle.

I was thinking, " Don't you have to back the tap out to clear the chips?", but I soon realized that is what you do when tapping into a solid material, instead of the items shown in this video. Good job in re-purposing a piece of machinery!

So the 1st drill is a reduction box for the powered drill so it cuts slower yes?

Am I missing something? Couldn't you have done the same thing by just putting the tap directly into the working drill chuck?
InstrucTube I’m not at all sure but I think there’s two problems with that. First the drill will go too fast and second torque will be low. The addition of the larger secondary drill gearbox slows the tap and increases the torque, stopping the tap from damaging threads and instead cutting new ones.
It doesn’t hurt to do some experiments - just compare hand tapping to power tapping with your drill - your manual tapping is slow and at times hard work as you cut. A power tap going too fast will come up against hard work and instead spin around at the same level damaging the thread.
Does that make sense? That’s my theory anyway!
Yeah, those are good reasons. I suppose it would depend on the actual workings of the drill. Some of them have ways to be able to change the torque and speed settings enough to compensate no problem. Not the drill in the video, though. It's.... kind of old.
I have tested a stanley drill (12 V mid range battery drill) with the lower speed and maximum torque and I can't tap with a 10 mm thread, the drill shutdown due to the increment of electrical current when I try to tap, I think is better a second stage of reduction to increase the torque and
José Federico Ramos Ortega Precisely and even on the lowest/slowest settings it is just too fast with not enough torque. My drill press is far too fast as well (for my comfort) so I wish I had a 10:1 or 20:1 gear ratio on it for stuff like this (slow and steady is the best for tapping so 10-30 rpm is best) but this has another advantage as well and that is it is portable as we saw at the end of the video.

Change pls the heading Darek! Your appliance is rather THREADING IMPLEMENT not tapping! Check the Google Translate in need. After that, the idea of giving new life to a broken machine tool is great. In some other YT film I saw the revival of a spoilt angle grinder in a belt grinder body! Electricity is stronger destroyer for our tools than friction: gears are left usually in quite good condition in contrast to their burned up rotor/stator wiring... Happy new year 2018 by the way, Darek!

Ну, не знаю... Если уж так необходим резьбонарезной электроинструмент, то он в любом случае должен быть не такой. Стоять целый день в позе "косая" или "маховая сажень" с вывернутыми руками может позволить себе только мазохист.
Для нарезки 10-20 или даже 40 отверстий, по необходимости, нужен просто хороший резьбонарезной инструмент: метчик, плашка, вороток, держатель... и и.д.
Уж даже не знаю как это оценить.
А вот вопрос к меня: какая необходимость в таком инструменте?

Just last week I talked myself out of throwing a drill press like that away as well as a drill with a bad motor. I was kicking myself since then because I was trying to not be such a pack rat but now I'm glad I didn't.
hey made in poland, i could send you another Narex drill like this, i have one home but the capacitor broke, everything other works, just the capacitor is missing. Im from czech republic so the shipping would not be that high

Why not just use the power drill that has Fwd and Rev built in to it? that drill, would mount up to the drill stand with out modification's, no need for the other drill chuck.
