    Thanks so much for showing this comparison! I make quite a few wire Christmas trees and Angels for Christmas and tend to use the Beadalon or Artistic as they hold their shape really well after just a little hammer hardening!👍🏼

      You are very welcome. Artistic wire is my go-to and I was pleasantly surprised with the Beadalon German style wire!

    Loved this! I've been using the Beadsmith wires all these years - mostly because I love the quality and different color varieties they come in. Unfortunately some of the coated wires [mostly red antique copper, dark gray and black] don't do so great when bent for wire wrapping - as it somehow seems to mess with the coating and cause some striations along the length of the wire, but the various gold, silver, and bronze and lighter copper colors always worked well for me. I've been considering using some different wire brands, but after this video - I think I just stick with what I know :o)

      Thank you. All the tarnish resistant wires have a coating. I've never had a problem with the Artistic wire. As long as you have good quality tools and go gently it works well. I try to do as much manipulating with my hands as possible.

    Great review Heather. 8 yrs ago I started with Beadalon because Michael's carried it. It was stiff wire to learn with. Then i got artistic wire also carried by Michael's. I then moved to parawire as i could larger amounts but shipping is brutal to get to Canada. I just recently bought more artistic wire from Amazon as we lost our Michael's store back in 2020.

      My absolute pleasure Cory. It was fun to try some new wires. I enjoyed discovering the Beadsmith wire. It is a cooler silver colour (less sterling-like) but the wire works very well.

      Love the info!!! Have you tried SoftFlex I think they call it raft wire. I've ordered some but haven't received yet. I have used their beading wire since the 90's. Once I started using Softflex beading wire, I won't even go near tiger tail. If you do try their craft wire I would love to see how it stacks up.

    TU for this video. Most of my wire is Artistic Wire, Beadalon and also Wire Elements with some Parawire. Comparison is important especially for newbies. Many Wire artists use bare copper because of the lower cost and flexibility in Wire making and weaving. For know, I'll buy those favs.

    • @HeatherBoydWire
      @HeatherBoydWire  10 місяців тому +1

      You are very welcome. You are right I didn't mention bare copper but many use it so they can patina and hammer their work!

    The problem with all artistic wire is that it's not permanent like sterling silver,but only coated. What's the use of making some beautiful jewelry,if it's not going to last forever. For jewelry,especially if you're going to sell it to customers,it must be from sterling silver at least. That's just my thoughts.

    • @HeatherBoydWire
      @HeatherBoydWire  10 місяців тому

      So far I've had no problems with Artistic wire. Of course I wouldn't recommend wearing the work in a pool or shower and I use hypo-allergenic surgical steel earring hooks. I use sterling for the higher end items I sell at a local Art gallery, but it's nice to have work at a variety of price points and styles to be accessible to a variety of customers. I also love the gorgeous colours available in the Artistic wire.

    It looks like you have a large and wide network Heather.
    Do you have anyone from the EU who can tell where they buy their wire?
    Here in Denmark, we can only buy poorer quality than the one they have at PandaHall.

    • @HeatherBoydWire
      @HeatherBoydWire  10 місяців тому

      Hi Britta: I did a quick search on Etsy. You can buy lots of supplies there. Here are some listings for Artistic wire from shops that ship to Denmark. You can do searches for supplies and set the filters for "ships to Denmark" Good luck. Heather www.etsy.com/search?q=Artistic+wire+20+gauge&ship_to=DK&ref=search_bar

    Can the artistic wire be hammered?

    • @HeatherBoydWire
      @HeatherBoydWire  10 місяців тому +1

      The Artistic wire, as all the other tarnish resistant wires, have a coating to prevent tarnishing. You can hammer it or press it lightly but not like you can with bare copper wire.
