I just gotta say, that i cannot imagine playing Vice City, and NOT having Billie Jean running as the first track of the game.

Mister Aki I agree with you! I loved listening to edge of seventeen in the bowling alley in gta 4! Why can’t they just do that instead of being jerks and removing the best music? It really annoys me! I like the Russian music in gta 4 but it’s not the same thing since the entire station got overhauled with new music

Basically, they're nerfed of already nerfed versions of the steam versions.
Use the downgrader mod for the steam version
At least the copies on Steam can be downgrade then. Also, you can make a silent patch and moddable like many people did already. I also stick with the Steam version now after I just modified the game itself

UPDATE.
It´s technically possible to replace the game files without the launcher re-downloading by using "-skipPatcherCheck" launch parameter.
R* use that functionality with the steam games so that RGL does not change game files when running from steam and causes conflicts or so.
So if you just make a launcher.exe shortcut of the RGL with that parameter, you should be able to mod all games fine and dandy without RGL replacing them. By rollschuh2282

It's 2019 and Rockstar still can't get their shit together. I'm just going to stick with my PS2 versions of the games.

PC is fine too though. Just get the old retail copies of the trilogy, the 1.0 releases. No songs cut and is mod friendly. Then get stuff like SilentPatch, Widescreen Fix, Ginput (for players who prefer controllers) and SkyGFX to restore PS2 graphics. Hell, if you want, you can even install 2 player co-op mod too on PC or use higher quality audio for VC and 3. The experience is already superior in a couple of ways. Draw distances are greatly improved from the PS2, the framerate is more stable and smooth which means controls are more responsive and less frustrating, faster load times and you get all bugs fixed (including bugs that were on PS2) along with PS2 graphical effects.
Without mods though, I do recommend the PS2 version for sure or the emulated PCSX2 versions.
San Andreas PS2 doesn't translate well on HD screens.
if your gonna get a console version then get the original xbox version. it's runs better and looks better.

I stopped caring about the series with 4, the little bits of 4 & 5 that I've played just weren't interesting to me.

Funny fact about the RGL: on my old pc, I had a cracked version of Bully: Scholarship Edition.
When I installed the RGL, it detected my install of Bully, and added Bully to my library

Thank you for making this video! Rockstar really messed up a chance to make people want to go back and play these games. I was hoping they would have actually released the 10th anniversary versions of III and VC. It’s a shame that they couldn’t even be bothered to fix widescreen problems in these.

I’m still fuming over the fact they got rid of David Bowie’s “Fascination” and ELO’s “Evil Woman” in GTA 4. Those tracks were literally two of the best mood setters, along with most of the Russian radio station.

Quick tip for developers: Add a format version to the header of your save files, or any file format really. Preferably put it at the very beginning of the file. If you decide to update the structure of the file, keep both load functions and call the right one based on the header. Even better, keep a "save version" variable when the player loads a save and when they go to save, if the version is outdated, tell the player about it and ask them if they want to save in the new format while pointing out possible incompatibilities with some versions of your software.

There's a problem with RGL verifying each files for alteration. If it's not the one, it replaces it back with the original one then launches the game.

Just actually recently did a bunch of modding to VC and SA and boy I’m having a blast going back through SA. Wish I could have seen this a bit earlier to avoid all my set up issues, such as downgrading.

I seriously hope they got something currently in the works for GTA IV like a remastered edition. But I don't see RDR, Manhunt, or Midnight Club so it's possible they did indeed let IV die.
@@AOitsAO the original red dead redemption's code was jumbled together and was really just a mess, but there's a small chance of a remake or something along those lines as DLC for rdr2.
as for manhunt and midnight club, since rockstar is owned by a big company that only cares about profits, something related to either of those games wouldn't make sense from a business perspective.

2:18 - transparent menu is caused by too high FPS (when I check FPS with Fraps, it's greater 1000), R* didn't limit the frame on menu so it goes sky rocket.
The problems extend outside of GTA too. Some of the NPCs turn invisible in Max Payne 3. You can imagine how frustrating it is seeing Max fall to the floor and waste my last bottle of Painkillers, all because they found the goddamn Invisibility Cloak from Harry Potter.

The transparent menus seem to be caused by the framerate being too high, the weird noise your computer makes (coil whine) would support this. Limiting the framerate with something like nvidia inspector or Radeon chill should fix it.
I'm just gonna remain a collector and play my excellent condition complete PS2 versions . They look like they just recently got opened still . Kept these packaged up in envelopes and boxes when I ordered them . With the maps and manuals . They're gonna be worth a pretty penny someday . Or should I say "Tenpenny"

A simple but effective example are the mobile ports. The example being the character models and texture are completely remastered, as in now characters have actual fingers and you can see their facial features more clearly, also the lighting are revamped.

For some reason, my Rockstar Game Launcher doesn't have the store and ability to buy R* games. It only allows me to launch my GTA games from steam.

GTA III and VC both have all the patches you mention on Lutris, with a few clicks and no hastle, you can install the moded version.
The only real way to play the best versions of the 3D universe GTA games (GTA III, GTA VC & GTA SA) is to own the PS2 or OG Xbox versions. Those versions have all their dialogue, missions and soundtracks intact (later versions of Vice City removed the Haitian dialogue). Also, the radio stations in those original versions aren't altered due to the song licenses expiring like in the new versions. The versions to ignore are mobile, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Windows, Steam and especially the Rockstar launcher. Just pick up an old PS2 or OG Xbox at your retro store for 50 or 60 bucks and a copy of any of the old GTA games for 10 bucks each and you'll have an experience thats raw, uncut, unedited, and 1000x better.
Or you can just pirate them and install all the mods and fixes to make the games run like their Console counterparts. GTASA + Downgrader + Silent Patch + SkyGFX + Widescreen is fucking great.

Plus for the average consumer whos not a PC elitist, that sounds like alot of work to install all that. Additionally, i dont condone piracy as thats a scummy thing to do, its almost like stealing. There's a ton of pirated versions with cut content. Also again, the patches restore a lot of that cut content. I am not sure about Vice City but SA does definitely restore most of the cut music and scripts.

I disagree and agree. This can be agreed with games where the developers and publishers worked hard on it, but with Rockstar I feel they deserve to get pirated on because of how scummy they've acted with their userbase. Especially towards their modding communities and their own customers and treating them like cash cow. And that to me is far more scummy,.
I was so desperate to play San Andrea's again, that I paid for it on Google Play Store, but... it actually plays well enough.
Still better than RGL version, some features is losing but atleast its playable and the controls were easy
@NovaLion and its less than $10 here. The only bad thing is the weird textures and the vehicle despawning, overall its pretty good, just because its on mobile doesn't always mean it sucks

I still have an old desktop with vista that i use to play games like arena, daggerfall and old games in general.

I remember like 6 years ago through Humble Bundle I got a bundle that had gta3, vc, sa, 4, and eflc for $10 total. It was great but I wound up buying retail copies and patching them for 3, vc, and sa.

You can still mod gta sa if you just replace the exe with the steam exe, and then use the gta sa downgrader, this also fixes the spinning camera bug

After learning a lot about these mostly broken modern releases, I'm convinced that the best option is: buy a PS2 and enjoy these games in its best state
The Mod Framerate Vigilante is the reason you'll quickly forget about these new crappy versions and dive into amazing world of 1.0 versions with ocean of fixes and optmizations.
This, is why i play these ones on the ps2 with the day one copies

Mine does not spin but it dies and I can't fix it pausing and unpausing the game like in the retail version, it just doesn't work

Nice video, It helped me a bunch replay all these games, I bought them in the rockstar games launcher because they were in offer so I took gta 3, sa, vc and 4 for les than 20 dollars. The link of "Ultimate ASI Loader (without this SP won't work)" is down
my friend has the rgl version of sa and we did try some cleo mods, but the game crashed sometimes, but we had some gameplay, and we even used retail game saves
its funny that the Steam version was considered the worst version, and then this drops and it's debatable whether you should even buy this one or not
