Epic on how far all of you have came from the beginning. Have completely enjoyed your content. And the willingness to start with almost nothing and turn it into something so impressive
tip on those clamps: put a piece of wood 3-4 inches long between the clamp and the metal. it will spread out the force on the glass and lessen the potential of too much stress at one point where the clamp contacts the metal/glass.
Heck, I was with Grandma holding her breath and I'm sitting at home. I was watching out of the corner of one eye just waiting. lol
Shawn is like a Jedi with a plasma cutter. Good job Shawn.
I can only imagine the expression of the first guy to jump into that truck who doesn't know better and start to crank the window. 😀
Not sure if I’m the only one who notice probably not but pretty good editing to remove the crack the editor did an amazing job blurring it out good work
I love that you kept the old crank window handles in the truck, with the modern electric tech.
To have the family involved, doing what ya love, successful and healthy, and mom is still around daily? Priceless!
I like the door panels. Those fit the Rat Back image
You give shade tree mechanics a good name and professional mechanics nightmares. I love this channel!
Happy Mother’s Day Michelle and Grandma Lolly😘❤️
Hey Paul you should put a short mud flap in front of the rear tire on the rat back so it doesn't pile mud on your toolbox and tank!!!
Looking great crew keep up the good work!!!
i used to build livestock trailers out of aluminum and whenever we sandwiched the aluminum to the steel chassis for our 5th wheel variants we applied a chemical that had to be brushed on in between the aluminum and steel to avoid rusting, im sure you know but for love of the channel i figure id mention it. cheers paul love the channel and the work ethic shows me i still have more to learn. Johnnie B.
Good call. yep that's called galvanic corrosion. The aluminum acts as an anode which will actually inhibit the steel from corroding, but accelerate the corrosion of the aluminum. Kind of like you put a zinc (some are actually aluminum-zinc) on a boat to protect the lower end of a motor. Or the entire hull, especially for aluminum boats. You want to electrically isolate the aluminum form the steel if you can. Either by paint, hard coat anodize (Type III), plastic, or other means.
At 16:2-something, you said "We're in the Chips, that's what people say." Uh, No, no one I have ever talked to has uttered those words. You are the first sir, congratulations.
For glass the pipe clamp is a great idea. Also you can set the window on a block of wood and use a mallet to hit it on. It would be a good idea to put some plastic or rubber in between the steel and aluminum tubes on the bed so they don’t corrode each other.
My thoughts exactly.
Good editing, production, and music background!
Great job to your editor. Unsung hero.
Paul there is a glass guy in Texas watching y’all struggle with the windows. I wish I was closer so I could come by and help.
The way we do it is juice it up with spray way glass cleaner and pound it on with a rubber hammer. Yes some times it breaks so we blame it on the rookie.
Little tip from a seasoned Glazier use a tiny bit of washing up liquid, for rubber to glass as a lube, press home firm and off you go, just a thin film from your finger. It will dry out and stick to the glass nicely. Things like rubber grease , silicon grease, even KY take much longer to "cure".
KY might take longer to cure, but think of the fun you can have while you're waiting!
Great tip!! I always used Sprayway glass cleaner for a lubricant. That way when you’re done installing you just wipe it off and your glass is clean.
I was wondering why they didn't use any lube at all, but yes great tip they'll never care to remember next time 😁 that's the crazy thing I notice about these youtubers they don't Google anything except directions lol ...also dishwashing fluid can be used to help slide semi trailers over on pavement when needed .
What I was actually gonna advise is ky can dry out plastic ,I've experienced personally 🙄
Isopropyl is another solid option.
Soap works great for tons of stuff, except Cybertruck pedal rubber apparently.
Shawn you are very good at what you do don't listen to the haters.
I would hire Shawn in a heart beat. Great attitude and work ethic.
@hillwilliam yes, 10x over
What? Are there really Shawn haters? I don’t have enough years left in my life even if I were going to live another 30 years, which I won’t, to understand people these days!! 😥
OH.. the drama.... yawn.
The hammering noise is the best part of time-lapse!
The Ratback rolls - and rocks!
Happy Mother’s Day Michelle! Paul the rat back is looking really good can’t wait to see the finished product.
I like the window switches. 😊
Greetings Fab Rats and family of fans! Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! All the mother's have a wonderful Mother's Day!!
Take care, be safe, and stay healthy!
Now every time I see you cut metal with the recip-saw I hear Derek B. (VGG) Screaming with the sawing! "YYYYAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! 😂😂😂
Editing dose a great job I know that I myself would be cussing like a Sailor.
I personally would have dropped winch plate to the bottom of 2x4 frame and welded there , winch would have set 1 1/2” lower …. come at me ya’ll, I don’t give a rip .. I’m a man and can take it !!! Cool truck !! 🛻
Congrats on becoming a man 🤙🏽
It's amazing watching Paul an the crew take junk pile hardware
An turn into better junk pile hardware
39:00 Happy Mothers Day "Caption Morgan"
I love Grandma Lolly , she's a riot ! Happy Mother's day Lolly !
@Fab Rats The Ratback is reminding me of another youtubers built car! Donut media's first low car, Nolan's big idea and oof, had a elephant trunk looking thing for a cold air intake! it looked horrible, but at least yours is under the hood and not visible when the hood is closed :P
Every time I watch a video on one of your projects makes me all that more motivated to start working on my projects and learning to weld. Loving the fabrication videos.
Should put ramps under the bed on rollers when you dump the bed ramps will slide out
Ya got to do what ya got to do. Period. LOL I don't care if you finish anything. Watching you and the family live and learn is enough entertainment for me. Thanks folks.
The process of pressing the glass into the window channel was intense. I'm glad that worked ok, I was a bit worried there for a while! Belated Happy Mother's Day to Michelle, she deserves the best! And Grandma Lolly, for keeping the whole shop crew in line!
JUST AN IDEA that popped in my head, with as much as the power goes out there maybe add a little reserve tank to the lift (with one way check valve) so you never have to worry about something being stuck on the lift because your out of air.
It was great to meet you all at the shop. The wife and I enjoyed our visit and sorry we disrupted your videoing the lift guys trying to back out. Must be hard to get work done with fans dropping in any old time. Keep up the good work and making it fun. We’ll take you wheeling if your ever in Rexburg area.
Grandma is the best, lol! She must have seen Paul breaking a lot of things during his learning curve. Very funny!
Couldn't leave it alone... That's thee story of my life .. 😂 love the content
Hey Fab Rats happy mother's day to ALL the Mom's and it's get to see the family come out and help you on Roll-Back I can't wait to see this power house up and rolling for good and holl his first load congrats Fab-Rats what and amazing video you have put out this week can't wait to see the next video plz keep them coming
Thank you Paul and crew for the update on the Ratback and loads of laughs !
It's coming together Paul looking good 👍👍
Happy mother's day to Mrs . Fabrat Michelle and Grandma Fabrat, hope you guys have a great day, keep doing what you guys do and God bless you and your family
Yes, glass guy of 20 years...this is prolly my fav episode! 😂😂😂
Happy Mother's Truckers Day ! Auto electric windows are a awesome addition and sheet metal panels, love it ! Sure woulld have been nice to have the flatbed actually roll back, it would make easier to load. 🇺🇲⚒️🇺🇲
Nice work on the winch and windows !
Happy Mother's Day to all the Mothers on your channel !
“I’m sending you positive vibes, leave me alone….” Quote of the day! Happy mothers’ day fabrat ladies!
Sean's face at 7:29 when the window knob fell off made me laugh.
Happy Mom's day to Lolly and Michelle.
Hunter, Sean was trying to get you to work more as you looked bored........
Hunter is a GREAT lawnmower driver.
GREAT job on the wench.
Really like the power windows, didn't know it was that easy to do. Well from my recliner that is 😊. Great content, thanks for sharing 👍. An Happy Mother's Day 💐 to all.
I absolutly love how this vehicle is coming along. And using the old window winders as the switch is genius.
Happy Mother's day Michelle and Grandma Lolly.
Nice job on the windows. Always enjoy seeing the firebird, my personal favorite.
Rule #1 in Alum welding. CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN... Those upside down weld's were filthy.
Stainless steel wire brush, acetone.
If you cleaned it yesterday, clean it again.
Love the Rat Back! Happy Mother's day!
Was reminiscing about some dear friends we've lost over the years the other day and a few were again brought to mind after watching the metal cutting/grinding/finishing operations today. Both died from not wearing their respirators with one passing from Parkinson's with Alzheimer's due to aluminum dust inhalation and the other from Silicosis based Pulmonary Fibrosis. It was a very sad thing to be there to witness when living wills were honored and the plugs were pulled on the lung machines since they could only live on them while unconscious with only brief moments in a semi-conscious state. Witnessing that would be in the Top 10 of the worst days of ones life.
Hoping that your all wearing your respirators when not speaking on camera as its painful to watch what we've come to realize is a slow miserable death potentially in progress.
Best!
Happy mother day to Grandma & Michelle and to the family
The new glass with the electric windows using the factory crank is slick! Very nice 👍
Happy Mother's Day to the Fab Rat ladies! May they all have a blessed and wonderful weekend 🙏❤️.
Thank you . This is an excellent video. Lots got done ,went to a car show ,placed the deck on the roll back ,and off the frame ,put automatic windows in. Going to be a beautiful truck . Oh yes ,got the air conditioning in . Keep on bringing the stories and videos guys, you bunch are just GREAT
You need to put something between the aluminum and the steel on the frame. Galvanic corrosion will make it a nightmare in the future. A good coat of heavy frame paint on both will help a lot.
Would a sacrificial anode help?
@chubbrock659 I'm not sure. I know they work in water but IDK about steel on aluminum.
Only in the presence of moisture. They are in an arid climate, probably not a big deal.
Paul that is just too cool man that rig is really cool too and you have electric windows in it. That is cooooool. Right on paul.✌
Super excited to see this thing come together and hit the road. I absolutely love watching you guys work on it.
Thanks for sharing,
Pat
happy mother's day great as always the vehicle 's look great
Happy mother's day to all you awesome moms...
Happy Mother's Day dear Michelle!
When working with glass and rubber seals use GoJo waterless hand cleaner as a lubricant. Works great, rinses away with water afterwards and leaves no oily residue. Any left in the assembled parts will dry up and disappear.
.... Happy Mother's Day Michelle and Grandma!
Exactly how we did in on the heavy equipment windows back in the day. Back when pumice was an option, not the normal.
Always fun to see you doing things. Thank you Fab Rats.
Happy Mother's Day out to all the mom's in evolved in the Fab Rats Family.
Your editor did a great job blurring your plumbers license while you were bent over working on those fenders 👍
To bolt that aluminum tube to the frame, you can drill the holes where you want them, then drill the outside, (non contact side) holes big enough to get a socket through it. If you need structure at that point, you can slide a flatbar into the tubing and drill that also to work as a large load spreader. It ends up hiding the bolt heads. Very clean finish.
Michele is looking great as always! Good job men! Lando seems like a really good son! Keep up the good work Fab Rats!
Its nice seeing the shop shaping up
MORE FUN!
"Just take it" so many funny comments that could be made 😂😂😂😂😂
Put an optima battery right there by the winch, put leads on the frame that make contact with leads on the bed when it's down so it will keep the battery charged. Save you 30 feet of cable and massive voltage drop
Danger, Will Robinson!
@@keithb6717 how so?
@@JMC9837
Think about it.
@keithb6717 I thought about it before I posted it maybe you should think about it 🤔
@@JMC9837
I’m a electronics tech. It’s pretty obvious and I would be doing you a disservice by not allowing your analytical skills to advance.
Mr.Cox, swore in this video lmao
You could take that fairlead off and make a roller that goes across the opening of the winch (like a winch truck bed) and it could help with more clearance at the winch.
Happy Mother’s Day Michelle and Grandma Lolly
Those power windows and how they work with that handle is mind blowing cool. 😎
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO THE BOSS OF FAB RATS
The Ratback is looking seriously cool.
I like at 5:58 the sun was shining through a hole on the wall onto Shawn’s shirt as if someone was shining a spot light on him.
I think the power windows is super awesome .The way you made it work is just awesome!
Love seeing the "49" coming together. It must be so satisfying to build a dream ! You "Men" are the best, great watching your video's they are the highlight of my day. Ps. caught you tossing the measuring tape, you should have enough to supply your shop and have the carpenter's in town. lol
Fun Episode, I Was starting to think the mill was "for show for when guest came over". Cool to actually see it get used.
Happy Mothers Day to Michelle and your Mom Paul
It's coming together beautifully 😍
Happy Mothers Day Ladies ❤❤
Is still looking forward to Ben Coming back for a few cameos, Often.
Landon is rocking lamb chops! Like em.
You guys are the best. I love seeing you prosper!

12:20 CLANG!! Well, nobody died LOL!
Truck sounds like it is running great. It’s beginning to look like a finished product.
Happy Mother's Day Granma and Michelle
Grandma is awesome. I love her. She reminds me of my Mamaw Carter. Happy mother ls day to the mothers there. ❤❤❤
Get you a stainless cup brush and put on a 9" or 7 " grinder and polish that bed. It will give it that brushed look. Really looks good.
This is my favorite build you have done! In love with your 49 Chevy!
