I was actually going to ask if the sun ever comes out in NZ, because I could swear in all your videos it's almost always a gloomy overcast day, but finally I see some brightness during parts of this upload haha It's actually a bit of a treat watching a Hino side loader these days when I think about it, because there are very few left over here in Oz these days, off the top of my head it's only Strathfield that still runs maybe 2 in Sydney (probably not for much longer either). The lower bumper on these Hinos still does my head in and always will, it just looks so wrong at 3:50. Loved seeing those big dark green 240Ls being used for garbage here and there, almost gave it an old school waste services look... but I guess you guys didn't have 240L garbage as much like us across the ditch, 80s and 90s for you guys it was still mostly bags and 55L cans right? Even seeing 80L bins getting emptied is a bit different with all the other videos on UA-cam today too. I do admire some of the MJ/Bucher lifters which have that real loose grip on the small bins, enough to hold and lift them, but with no actual tight grip so the material isn't pressed inside and can discharge rather easily. Nice production from you again! It's more exciting to watch with multiple waste streams being done, even if it's the same truck, but the good operator at the controls makes it a pleasure to view even more so.

I probably don't do NZ any favors when it comes to showcasing our weather, but I prefer filming in overcast weather, with less chance of the sun fucking my clips up haha! Even over here, the Hino/Bucher combo is becoming more of an uncommon sight as WAM has moved to the Isuzu gear. It was mainly just the main centres that used bags in the 90s, most regional places have been using some form of wheelie bin since the start of kerbside collection, Selwyn included!

Cheers buddy! Yeah the Selwyn District have a pretty Aussie inspired collection system introduced around the time councils over your way were implementing the same sort of stuff. Always try my best to keep the video steady, can’t stand when the camera is all over the show!

Good stuff as always Charlie! Watching these videos with some decent headphones I've realised the Hinos actually sound alright, could almost mistake it for an ACCO when it takes off lol. God the bumpers on these are ugly, paint it purple and it'll look like Thanos :p

Yeah the euro 5 Hino’s don’t sound half bad, nothing beats the Acco though ;) Always thought the front bumper looks like a double chin, absolutely no idea what they were thinking when the chucked it on hahaha! Cheers mate

Some places here do have a bit of variety, there are some other truck brands being used here, but some places here currently prefer to use Hino 500's, it's just the way it is. I live in Invercargill and currently all of our side loaders are Hino 500's ranging from 2011-2019, in 2019 Hino redesigned their trucks to much better looking truck compared to the older ones and we bought 6-7 of them.
You never know, councils might start buying different truck brands, or they may continue to use Hino 500's, especially if Hino redesign their trucks again to a beast of a truck.
