The separate audio track segment blew my mind. Finally, I can record a game session with the bois on separate audio tracks without using multiple, complicated instances of Audacity!
I really appreciate the part about the seperate audio tracks. Never knew I could get away with something like that but it's going to be a game changer!!!
3:30 .. Keep in mind though, even if you use a custom browser dock for Stream Labels, you still need to have the Stream Labels app open in order for any on screen text-based widgets to refresh properly. If you have labels on your overlay, the OBS Studio activity widget won’t work if you only use the docked recent events window. The Stream Labels app saves everything to a txt file that OBS Studio reads for recent followers and such, but it needs for Stream Labels to be open in order to do that.
Your video is so much better than many I have watched. You actually do what you mention. Others just mention you CAN do this or that without showing any detail or they click on a button and then immediately close it. Thank you.
I’m just starting out in OBS, your video is easily the best quality and most direct / informative. Great work, thank you for posting such helpful content. Subscribed
Some useful tips their, especially the nested scenes. I think you might have made a minor mistake at 7:07 about which audio tracks are used in the stream broadcast. In OBS Studio in Settings Output-> streaming tab, if you specify 'advanced mode' (and not 'simple mode'), you pick via a radio button which track you want to broadcast and it's default to track 1 only. Something for users to watch out for. In 'Simple Mode' I'm guessing all tracks are merged into the stream output then? I've not tried that myself so I can't confirm either way, cheers.
The popout stream preview dock is just what I needed! Took me a second to find it, for anyone looking here's where to find yours: Twitch - Creator Dashboard - Stream Manager - Then hit the three dots in the "Stream Preview" window for the pop-out. Thanks for the awesome tips!
I really appreciate you guys that made this channel one video in and I already am starting to understand some more things about streaming. Thanks again guys and keep up the good work
For those that were as confused as me when they didn't find the separated track selection under .mkv format... first you have to set your output settings to advanced
@@ikhwan49 using the direct to MP4 format means that if something happens to your OBS while recording you will lose the entire file. MKV means that you'll still have the file. MP4 is never suggested for recording stream video due to the risk of losing an entire file if your system loses power or your program crashes.
Great video. I switched to Streamlabs earlier this year and have been progressively dissatisfied with it over the last few months. A friend of mine switched back to OBS, and I think I'm ready to do the same. Also, the plugin video would be a great watch as well! So I'll look forward to seeing that!
As someone who has gotten into streaming fairly recently and is always looking to improve his setup, this video was genuinely useful. Thank you for the great tips! Subscribed!
HUGE thank you! I decided to finally start getting serious about making my art streaming channel LOOK good and not basic while still making sure that OBS or SLOBS don’t make my laptop have a heart attack while working in ArtRage or mirroring my ipad for Procreate stuff. That browser docking option was something I didn’t know existed, and that should help with running my copyright free music playlist from here on UA-cam without, again, killing the computer. Or for when I want to have a soundboard open. Seriously, HUGE thanks! And I’m definetely going to check out your stinger transitions video as well. I watched another video on how to make those, aaaaand their description lost me. ^^
Thanks! I would also recommend the transition matrix plug-in, to have even greater control over the transitions such as coming back from the AFK scene, you could have different stingers for your game or your desktop scene. You've got great content.
This was the most informative and helpful video. All the things i wanted from obs , but didn't know it already existed . Thank you so much. You are just awesome 😊
Another nice tip on the nested scenes is you can apply filters to a scene independently from a source. For instance, I want my game play to be transparent on my just chatting screen. I can add my game capture to a scene, then add that scene to my just chatting. Then I can add an opacity filter to the new scene and not effect the actual game capture at all.
If you could dive into how you separate your game audio, discord and mic that would be super helpful! I've watched some other videos and tried using bananamix or whatever it's called and it always seems to break my audio and give me some super weird audio problems. Cheers man!
Yea same problem here, voice meter is very annoying to use on a laptop, i just want to mute discord while recording, i cant belive its so hard to do so...at this point i think is imposible to achieve this.
@@carbustel Download voicemeeter banana, set your discord output speaker as your VB audio cable, set your headphones as your VB audio cable repeat(Within Voicemeeter banana). Now you should be able to hear all discord audio, because it's going through the virtual cable and back to your headphones. Then, set one of your OBS audio tracks to record your VB audio cable as an input, and title it Discord. Now, when you're editing your content, there should be 3 audio tracks. Desktop audio (headphones), your mic, and VB audio cable (Discord audio). Now you can either delete the discord track or mute it where you want to. Note that Voicemeeter will always need to running in foreground or background so that it can relay your audio. If you have any questions feel free to reply!

Never realized OBS had the multi audio track thing. Thank you! One question though: what is the URL code you're using to add a Twitch Stream Preview that automatically goes to full screen at 3:58?
Great video. The custom docks is great, I am now docking my own stream inside OBS so I can keep an eye on it with a browser being open. Thanks for the tip.
Great content as always, I have now learned how to separate the audio tracks, that puzzled me for a while now, the transition tutorial is also really useful and that puzzled me too, but not any more thanks to you!
RE separate audio tracks, it's been my experience in OBS Studio that you have 6 tracks, and when you set your stream output, you chose one of those tracks to broadcast. Pete has the right idea though. What I do is set my OBS output to broadcast audio track 1 then make sure everything that I want to be included in the broadcast is output to track 1 along with the a separate track For example: Desktop goes to track 1 + 2 Mic goes to track 1 + 3 Music goes to track 1 + 4 Discord/VOIP goes to track 1 + 5 Alerts/effects etc go to track 1 + 6
Thank you for this! I was just looking for this solution. I was only able to select one Audio Track to stream and was finding it frustrating when he said the streaming wouldn't be affected. I appreciate it!
oh man, A couple I knew about, but the separate audio sources is a freakin' game changer for me. And the custom browser docks for a stream preview dock is really cool.
I don't stream but this is gonna make video editing so much easier. Cut way down on post production time and make things more productive and professional. Thanks!
7:44 - When I remux mkv to mp4, the audio tracks are combined and in after effects appear as 1 audio track. Solution seems complex and involves a code/command to extract the audio files, is there a simpler solution?
Hmm that’s strange. How about in premiere pro? It could be that after effects doesn’t like multiple audio tracks. But in premiere pro you should see the same number to audio tracks as you had for mkv
7:19 When I tried to separate the audio tracks for recording, no one was able to hear the audio from sources other than my mic. I only made adjustments for my recording and not my stream, but my stream was affected and I had to set it back to default to get the audio all working again. How do I get around this?
How do I record separate windows as separate audio tracks instead of them being in desktop audio? If there's a video about it would be much appreciated if you could send he link! 👍
