I'll add to the likes, great job on a very direct, easy to understand, concise video. Nice to find people that put stuff out without 20 minutes of bloat.
Yes!!!!!! Great video AND I didn’t have to give up 26” of my life to learn!!!
4 years later..and your video is STILL helping people. Thanks a ton😃
Best video I've seen on pretty much any car part replacement. No b/s, just solid instructions.
I can’t figure out how to get the cv axle out of the transmission though! Mine is stuck, living in the rust belt for 12 years is no good.
Get a good angle and a solid wack on the crow bar
That worked! Thanks, subscribing to the channel.
Nate Lukey much appreciated!
Exactly! Enough said😁👌🏾👍🏾
Thanks to your wonderful video I was able to replace my driver side CV axle on my 2006 Honda Odyssey all by myself once I borrowed an impact wrench. My 71 year old muscles did not have enough upmph to break the axle nut loose. Saved me a whole bunch of money which is important on a fixed income. Thanks again Loved that you gave the torque specs. At least I had enough strength to hit the torque specs.
The camera work is the best I've seen. Thank you!!!
Great job man. Could not have done anything better! All the socket sizes and torque specs. Keep up the great work 👍
Thanks so much. My 2009 Odyssey has made a groaning sound from the front left for years when starting from a stop and slow turns, but the mechanic didn't see anything wrong with the CV joint (boot intact, etc). It got a bit worse over time, so I decided to change it. I also tightened a loose shock in the rear. A different van - sounds like new (or doesn't sound like anything)! Thanks for such a great, straight-forward video.
jon schumacher yes sometimes they don’t look bad from outside but the internals are bad
Same with my 07. cV AXLE LOOKS like new but lots of noise
You should teach a Masterclass on UA-cam DIY/HowTo Do It videos. Perfect camera work, well lit, spot-on captioning saves HOURS of nonsensical and needless droning on. Can't thank you enough.
Thanks you made this less time consuming. When putting the spindle into the hub it went about half way and stopped. I tapped it with a hammer and a block of wood got a little movement but not much. I realized I could flip the spindle nut around and use it to grab the threads. It made it a lot more easy to get it all the way thru
Outstanding, crisp, concise and high quality video. You set standard for car diy. Have you uploaded PASSENGER side video?
Yes sir ua-cam.com/video/agmqtn5pqjQ/v-deo.html
Best how to video I’ve ever used.
I’m not a mechanic but you made it so understandable I think I can do it. great job!!!

Great video! Fixed my issues with the shaking. Thanks!
Cool! I’ll try this method on the driver side instead of removing the tie rod and the lower control ball joint. Did the the passenger side today and it was challenging due to the hardware being rusted 😠 Thanks for the video 👍
Nice work on the car and the video, good info without any fluff.
Looks easier than I thought. Thanks for the video!
best video I've seen and I always love to watch your video. Do you need a front end alignment when you're done?
You should check the alignment yes
Solid video right here. Plan on following these steps in the morning. However, I had one question, 6 or 12 point socket for the axle nut?
Definitely 6 point
Thank you very much for all of your work! Do you happen to have CV axle videos for the 4th gen Odyssey?
Great video and all the info is clear and precise.
Thanks for the great guide! I have a 13 odyssey, how much difference the work would be? Difference torque specs as well?
More or less same process. Torque specs slightly different.
Awesome video man! Might do this and change the front struts as well
How did you pop it out so easy! That's where I'm stuck currently.
Right angle and a good smack
Your videos are very informative thank you
Is an impact wrench necessary to remove the bigger bolts, such as the main axle bolt?
Makes life easier lol
Wow. My Honda shop manual (2003 Odyssey) has me seperating the knuckle from the lower control arm (and therefore the ball joint)! If you can do this without separating the ball joint it would be so much easier. My inner right has started slinging some grease-no noise yet. If it's a loose band, I will just replace the band. If it's a split boot, do you agree with Eric the car guy that it would make sense to just pay about a $150 more and get a brand new (Honda brand) half shaft with two fresh boots instead of replacing the inner boot with a kit with a new boot and grease-which looks really complicated?
honestly i would just swap out the axle
Love it sweet and simple. Unfortunately you didn't mention how there are 2 screws that hold the rotor to the wheel hub, Your video didn't show them on your rotor it's nice to see how brand new everything looks, Most 2005 Odyssey are so far from being that clean underneath. And most of those nuts and bolts will fight the whole repair
I don't reuse those screws so didn't have em. But use an impact screwdriver on those, comes right out.
Do i need to do an alignment after replacing a cv axle?
Yes
If you could inform the torque specs in metrical system as well, it would help a lot.
Once again, thanks!
Ricardo Ramos i forget every time...will do. Thanks
Good video. Was even helpful in the axle swap for my 2012 MDX
Great video with clear details. Thank you!
As always a nice concise vid, looks like you upgraded from the Ryobi to the Milwaukee Mid Torque impact wrench, hope it's serving you well.
cardo it is sooo nice and powerful. Way better than my old ryobi. Smaller and much more powerful, as you saw in the video. Tried using the ryobi on the axle nut and it didn’t budge lol I recorded it, maybe I should post it.
MrRangerZr1 Glad to hear it is a beast, Milwaukee makes some really nice power tools. Thanks for all the great vids, they have been very helpful!
The Milwaukee impact gun, is it the 3/8 drive or the 1/2 drive
Rogelio Sanchez He uses the 1/2 inch anvil.
Could you tell me the size of that punch? It looks like a perfect fit.
dont remember exactly i have a whole set
Am I correct that tires alignment is needed after the replacement?
Yes good to check
Yes, however I think that you can avoid the alignment if you instead remove the tie rod and the lower control ball joint.
Can you tighten the axle nut with the tire on the ground? I dont own a impact wrench
Use a torque wrench to tighten the nut
Having a little trouble with getting the trans side to click into place I used a pry bar to get it out but didn't c if u struggled at all on the way in. Any tips ?
Grab both CV joints with both hands and jab it in there. Don't damage the oil seal.
Love these videos ,very helpful.
Got shaft out in 2006 touring, grease housing stayed on? Just afraid to start prying on things. Never mind, found a good point to pry and pry a little harder.
In case anyone is wondering the brake line hose bracket bolt is 15ft lbs. Did you have to take the car in to get an alignment after you were done?
Not really needed but doesn't hurt to check
I shave vibration at 65 mph, I did check the axles and the driver side has a little play , the passenger doesn't have any play at all .
Do you think that I need to replace Both of the axles?
Would do both
@@MrRangerZr1 thanks
My new axle came with what looks like a little ring on the transmission side. It's just siting in the groove. Should I leave it as is when placing into the transmission?
The c clip? Leave it in place. Make sure the old axle and its clip came out. That’s what locks the axle in place.
How did you clean the wheel barring did you just use water and a rag or wd 40 or alcohol
I used parts cleaner no oils
Do you have a part number for the Driver's side CV axle seal? Is there a passenger side seal to replace? Recommend a quality replacement seal?
check the description for the part. use OEM only
Thanks for the video! It was so helpful.
@1:17 What do you when the stabilizer 17mm nut just spins and the nut is seized to the bolt😂 I’m stuck plz help.
Sometimes the solution is so simple it hurts your brain, clamp vice grips on the back of it after spending an hour using an Allen key in the bolt and a wrench and after about 30 minutes stripping out the center of the bolt, 10 seconds a the vice grips and it was off, hope this helps someone lol.
Yep vice grips
Hi, I wanted to know (oh and that's true all parts aren't created equal) 😁if there is a brand that's just as good as the Moog brand for my Honda Odyssey EXL 2010? That's the brand a few people I know suggested that I use that! That also it's better than OEM?
OEM is best no question
Can’t get the cv axel to go into the rotor disc. ( it is 24 degrees Fahrenheit) do you think that can have something to do with it ?
Check if you got the right axles. Cold weather can also contribute to this.
Always clean splines which usually have rust and put anti seize or oil or grease in splines... should slide right in
Why did you change the intermediate shaft?
Just to show you guys :)
Any reason why the new one wouldn't go back in
Wrong axle? Check the axles.
What is the purpose of the oil on the axle nut? Nevertheless this video is very useful, well done as always!
Tuuni Geeb so it doesn’t rust and seize and makes torquing down to spec much easier.
I'm doing my passenger side CV axle but it seems like it's stuck in the transmission I tried pulling on it prying at it but nothing seems to work do you have any tips
Nevermind I finally got it out I had a really whack it with a pry bar underneath that was the hardest part
New update I just replaced this successfully yesterday but today it leaked out all my transmission fluid from there the axle is definitely all the way in do you think it's definitely the oil seal I'm getting towed right now as we speak.
You don't seat it in properly or the seal got compromised.
@@MrRangerZr1 yeah I think that's what happened I resealed it and it hasn't been leaking I put a new oil seal in there too thanks a lot
What was it doing when you noticed CV axle was goin out??
Fantastic DIY I like it good work peace out
Will the 2014 odyssey do the process?
Same process
Dont stake the axle nut till after you test! 2011 Odyssey....
Arrg...I heard the click on the transmission case when I pushed the CV in and reinstalled everything. Grinding noise and now leaking. Not looking forward to undoing it all unless other suggestions
what axle did you use?
@@MrRangerZr1 yup, you got the right problem. They shipped Odyssey EX CV axles instead of the ordered Touring.
Axles (and transmission) are different in the high trim models
Why is it fighting from going back in? Please help!
Make sure the splines are lined up
On CV joints what does everyone think about some PM by using a grease needle with a strategically placed pinhole? (Like the inner fold of the smallest bellow) there was nothing wrong with my cv joints but at 140k and 12 years old I did that 2 years ago. A whole tube of grease between the 4 joints. Didnt fill em entirely.
Since then it looks like a little spun out but not much.
It might help that I live where it virtually never rains. Anyway I just thought it was silly to wait for them to go bad-which they still may- when something could be done about it.
While these are sealed I cannot imagine any grease lasting that long without degradation and have long used grease needles on so called permanently lubed steering parts with great success.
Including lower ball joints with zero seal remaining, wrapped rubber mastik tape with heavy zip ties to form a seal and pumped it full of grease. Lasts about a year and do again.
Would not recommend that as it's already sealed and designed like that and that will allow dirt to go in no matter what. If you really wanted to grease the axles, remove it and the boot and regrease it...might as well just change the axle or just leave it alone entirely.
Do you recommend aftermarket or OEM axles for Honda?
Dhruv Patel OEM if you’re going to keep the van for a while. The aftermarket axles don’t last too long.
Thanks. My mechanic installed Duralast axles on my 2003 Accord since I was tight on budget but they vibrate like crazy. I guess OEM is worth the money in long run.
Speaking from experience go with OEM with the CV axle on the Honda. Tried aftermarket and it lasted a year before the inner hub started leaking.
what drill thing is that :p
Impact wrench link in description
Trying to find a vibe ration in the front of my van changed both axles and I still have a little bit when it’s not pulling a load thanks if anyone has some ideas let me know thanks Rick
Check road force wheel balance
Can I just jack up one side of the van?
Best to lift entire front end
Excelente video maestro grasias
Very good video 👍👍👍
Thank you!
