    Love the channel. This Lake Michigan series is very interesting. Why do so many Americans not like to eat fish whole or in pieces, I notice most fillet their fish. So much meat is lost, especially the collar and head. Something to try maybe in the future. Best of luck!

  • @alexblaze8878
    @alexblaze8878 Рік тому

    Spent 3 years in Alaska and did a lot of salmon fishing. Here’s one of the simple recipes I use:
    Cut a salmon fillet into thirds so that each piece is about 6-8 ounces. Lightly salt and then coat each piece with cayenne pepper (powder). In a medium-high heat, pre-warmed skillet add a few drizzles of vegetable oil. Place the fillet skin side down and cook for 2-3 minutes, flip and then cook for another 2 minutes or so. Flip it back so the skin side is down again and then drizzle pure maple syrup (or honey) over the fillet. It will glaze the fillet nicely. Add a squeeze of lemon juice. Remove from heat and enjoy.
    This is a great recipe for people who shy away from fish that taste really “fishy”. The cayenne pepper removes that strong fishiness but it doesn’t add much spice so don’t worry about it being overly spicy.

    Awesome. I would recommend not "pumping" the fish in though, steady pressure set the drag nice. I am not sure if you are barbless or not but it will help land fish by just keeping steady pressure. Pumping and stopping can work a bigger hole in the mouth and releasing slack to the fish the hook can slip out very easy. Also, coho have white gums and smell clean, spots are usally less prominent. Chinook (kings) have black gums sharper teeth, spots are usually more prominent or bold looking, and they often smell like an old penny. Once you catch a few its easy to tell them apart.

    Just a tip from someone who works in a 4 star restaurant, cook the fish skin side down directly on the pan, and put the lemons on top so the juice drips down into the fish👍🏼 what you’re doing is putting the lemons on the pan which will just steam off the juice and burn the sugars.
