The greatest singer of all time, Julie Andrews sings this Henry Mancini masterpiece magnificently. What a glorious voice! There is no other singer who can equal Julie and this performance is simply amazing. A gorgeous, elegant, radiant woman - Julie is a treasure.
She says she sang this at an event for her husband Blake Edwards once and he got emotional 🥺 How could you not?
Here I am in tears. And this video is just a proof of what I have believed for years. This is rehearsing time. Mancini at the piano, this is his song. A beautiful song. But in Julie's voice the song is elevated to a heavenly sacred sound that melt hearts. The transition to the last note and her gesture with her hand is the cherry on the top. And Mancini knows, for sure, that this rendition is out of this world. Look at him clapping and kissing her. I would have done the same! What a voice! The phrasing, the tenderness, the softness and power at the same time of her notes. PLUS (as if it's not enough) that gorgeous face. It's absolutely heavenly.
This is a full, sophisticated, rendering, by a wonderful singer, with the composer at the piano - can it be anything but perfect!
But I do have a soft spot for Audrey's simple rendering in "Tiffany", too (and she _did_ sing that herself, though I don't know if she played the guitar). Sweet. The two are so different - each in its way.
Her voice sounds like honey, that legato phrasing is unbelievably good, even in rehearsals. I cant imagine crowds today going crazy over gaga or Adele. They dont come close to Julie's heavenly, extremely well polished and phrased sound. On a different note, the footage quality is excellent. Kudos the team who decided to record this for television and to you for bringing this to us in HQ.
Well, it was the first time ever she did anything like it in Switzerland (or the other 2 German speaking countries) so they were hyped and taped the whole thing.
I don’t mind.
This and the Japanese concert are my favs.
Andy Williams had a hit with this song, but his version, excellent though it is, pales in comparison with Julie's.
Folks like Adele, Gaga, Aguilera, Carey and Spears don't hold a candle to J.A.!
@@TheJulieAndrewsArchive I love the Japanese concerts too. She sings special versions of songs there. I really wanted to see the same quality concert videos from her 1987-1988 concert tours, but alas not even an audio exists of this time period. a bit shocking to be honest, noting that recording equipment were so common in the 80s-90s.
To be fair, Gaga and Adele captivates the crowd in a different way. True as it is that they don't hold a candle when put beside Julie Andrews, I don't think there's a need for us to bring down other artists to praise legends
Julie Andrews … beautiful , classy and magnificent 🌹.. Henry Mancini - Genius! Thank you for posting . Beautiful music , beautiful voice. A Treasure.
Amazing! Dame Julie Andrews soars high and mighty yet displays vulnerability and tenderness in this Mancini masterpiece!!!! Bravissima!!!
I’ve always wanted her to record a version of this mixed with old man river, she mentioned being able to sing the L out of it several times, and we know this song was written for Audrey’s limited range…I’m sure our Dame could handle it…she’s such an inspiration
Unbelievably gorgeous! I only wish we had the whole song here…
Thanks so much to Julie, and the team with her, making some of the most heart-shatteringly beautiful music of my childhood available again, this way, not just to me butvto all the kids we buikt the internet FOR. A generous contribution indeed from the rose among a riot of gaudy orchids.
Julie is the best there is period !!
Oh my I have never heard of someone singing this song like Julie it's amazing beautiful I really love it God bless you Julie 🙏
Every time I think I’ve seen every possible video, heard every possible recording by this great lady of song, I come across another one. The way she brings this entire song together with the final “and me,” should be a masterclass in and of itself on phrasing, tone, and vocal quality. Her voice is like honey. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful piece. My one hope is that her concert recordings from the 1970s can all someday be released in an official way. Here’s hoping❤
Keep hoping! Maybe if lots of us do, they magically resurface.
I love this Song. I have a piece of this Album. HENRY MANCINI
What a masterpiece! Julie's voice is so beautiful it makes me weep.
Makes me smile.
Something there is just too little of these days!
Love, love,Love, love,LOVEEEEEEEEEEEE , omg love Julie so much since I exist
I can't get over this version. It has been playing on repeat since yesterday and I tear up every single time! It's too beautiful!
This made my day. My favourite song by my favourite artist. Thanks a lot!
I have always loved this song...but Julie Andrews does this song with such sweet emotion.
Her voice is crystal and precise...and makes one feel the song...my eyes runneth over when I hear her sing this.
Henry Mancini is overcome himself...
Is this concert available in its entirety?
Would love to see it.
She did rather well by Mancini. Others were Whistling in the Dark from Darling Lili and Crazy World from Victor/Victoria. She was sublime.
Such high notes.
goosebumps...❤
Very beautifùl
So remarkably wonderful.🎼Thank you for posting!😊
WOW! this is a rehearsal footage? different from the actual televised concert? She sounds incredible and Henry Mancini looked proud of her.
Yes, it is.
In the interview that follows, she mentions they only had 3 days rehearsals.
Mancini not only looked proud of her. He looks absolutely in love with what he heard. His own song transformed into a celestial piece. You can see how much he loved her! Can't blame him though! I would be weeping!
So lovely, thank you 😊
You’re welcome 😊
Holy cow! Range much??? That’s mind boggling!
It's a "normal range" for a Light soprano...and she's a light soprano.
🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Maravilha
Maravilha!!!❤❤❤
So are there two, 1-hour long videos of this evening? 1. is the rehearsal and 2. the actual concert evening?
no. this interview/ rehearsal part is only a few minutes. the concert is 40some minutes.
@@TheJulieAndrewsArchive got it
This is absolutely heavenly. Great song, beautiful performance. A shame it is not the complete song--I assume this is clipped out of a medley.
Also find it more than a little ironic that she is basically doing a cover version of an Audrey Hepburn song, as Ms. Hepburn introduced this song in Blake Edwards' film, Breakfast at Tiffany's.
It is part of a Mancini-medley. But this is also just the rehearsal of the concert.
At one point I’ll post the whole thing because it is just beautiful to listen, too.
But right now, it’s this because it is part of a short interview the Swiss tv did with her.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Οh my god what Voice****** utube john bavas crazy
I ha almost forgotten how high Julie's voice was back then. She matured well, and sang well (until the fateful surgery), but never as lovely or as pure as on this recording.
Do we have a recording of “moon river” in studio?
Not to our knowledge, no.
