  • Here are some silver proof sets I picked up at a reasonable price. Hopefully will be getting more of these in the near future.
Note: Something that i didn't mention in the video is that the "flat pack" type proof sets started in 1955 (had both types that year).

I love old mint and proof sets ❤.
There's something about holding vintage coins in your hands.
Modern era coins don't measure up.I didn't like the direction the US mint took starting with the state quarter program. And the coin designers of late have been dreadful

I just picked up a 1963 and 1964 proof set at a flea market for $20 each. Came with the envelopes also.

I understand 1960's full step graded nickels are quite sought-after. Sometimes, people will find older, full step nickels while searching BU rolls. Obviously, it'd be easy to find full step Jeffersons in these flat packs, so pulling a full step nickel from those packs, would probably not command the premium, since they were not business strikes. My question is, these flat pack nickels do not feature a cameo finish, so are there any other characteristics about the coins in these packs that would distinguish them from regular business strikes? I've pulled coins from old BU rolls that are every bit as brilliant, and just as strongly struck as the coins from the flat packs. So, what am I missing? What is the tell-tale indicator that a non-cameo coin is a proof vs a business strike? It's been said that proof coins feature greater detail and a mirror-like finish, whereas, the business strikes do not. Any ideas?
