if what I've heard is true, the Ullmark deal moved early because as of JULY 1, he could change his team list for his limited NTC. Still, right now if they could do over.. .they might just take their chances. Either way, here's to Korpisalo making people forget the name Swayman... this will be he best team he's played for and frankly his CBJ numbers were mostly pretty decent.(except for covid years)..

Sit Swayman. See how he feels missing a season and his value plummets because other teams don't want to touch him when he's a UFA and hasn't played. My guess is everyone is going to find out how solid Boston's D has been for years, making both Ullmark and Swayman look better than they are. Karpisalo will likely be serviceable with the Bruins D in front of him. No need for them to overpay.
I can't recall another time when the Bruins released any details regarding contract numbers. Neely stepped outside the mold for Bruins methods. I'm not surprised that he would do that at this point. Cam plays behind a desk the way he played on the ice. Hard and fair.
It is generous. But we're missing some important details. Does the contract include big signing bonuses? A no movement clause? These things are important to players.
I think the Swayman deal will depend on how Korpisalo plays. If Korpisalo plays awful and proves he can’t handle the job of starter then that’ll work in Swayman’s favour but if he plays well then it’s going to make the Bruins think twice. Personally I think if the Bruins had any kind of doubt then they should have kept Ullmark and traded Swayman instead. If you’re saying Swayman is the guy then you should be willing to show confidence in him and not treat him like he’s the problem.

I applaud Swayman for sticking to his guns, just as I do for Sweeney. I'm not signing a goaltender to an 8x8 without knowing he can give me a good 55gp and then carry the water in the playoffs too. All too often we've seen good goaltenders completely lose it overnight and never really find it again.
I'm lost. A goalies contract is based on what he has done. Swayman has played well enough to get a bridge deal - 2 years, but not the sack load he is holding out for. Let him prove he should earn that kind of coin, if he earns it, pay it after the bridge expires.
As big a Swayman fan as I am, if he has really turned down 8 x 8, then let him sit or take the 3 draft picks if he gets an offer sheet. I am not a fan of 8 year contracts, especially for goalies. Their performance can change drastically from year to year. While the goalie position is so important, there are only 32 #1 positions available so the supply of good goalies exceeds demand, so bargains can be found. When you can have quality goalies like an Anthony Stolarz putting up excellent numbers while, until this year, making less than 1M a year, I do not think there is justification to tie up a lot of money in the goalie position, especially for a goalie that has not even had one season as an undisputed #1 starter.
Swayman to CBJ for Elvis Merzlikins and Kirill Marchenko. Or Swayman to CBJ for Elvis and another package of players. Zach Werenkski, Dmitri Voronkov, or Kent Johnson might interest Boston. CBJ can afford to pay Swayman. Swayman gets CBJ up past the salary cap floor. Pens fan just taking a guess according to money and salary cap implications.

Every season, I feel it's a bad idea to bet against the Bruins making the playoffs, but the huge overpayment for the Canucks UFAs, losing DeBrusk, and without both their star goalies from last season means this is the year things go off the rails. The Boston goalie crisis reminds me of when Vancouver lost both Schneider and Luongo. I like it when teams bring in PTOs, but they're mostly there as an injury stop gap if it happens or to help pad out rosters for split squad exhibition games. At least Edmonton only went controversy light with Hoffman and didn't bring in DeAngelo to continue on their offseason pariah theme. Unless a bunch of players got injured, Blais didn't have much hope making the Canucks roster, but he at least got a chance to get noticed by his next team, in whatever league that is.

I totally disagree with you. You have to look at the entire context of what Neely said. Neely and Sweeney have been players and see both sides. They have been very fair to players when it comes to contracts in my opinion.
I never get on a player for wanting to make as much as they can. That said, I don't really want a player on my team that wants money more than winning. Being a Rangers fan, Swayman has me feeling the same about Shesterkin's ''supposed'' asking price as well. Especially if that player hasn't really erarned that money yet. Swayman hasn't even been a full fledged starter yet. And Igor wanting Hasek like pay (Supposedly 12 mil +) better have a Hasek like season and at minimum win the Vezina again but I excpect a cup. Guess Bobrobsky winning a cup at 10 mil inflated these goalies heads. I won't say Bob wasn't good, but Florida won because of hard team work, depth in scoring and depth on defence talent. As with Aiden Hill and Binnington, a got goalie at the right time seems more likely to win a cup than an elite goalie. Just my opinion on the situation.

8x$8mil would make Swayman the highest paid Bruins goalie ever. And with all the rumors that’ve been circulating that Bruins Front-Office is being stingy or low-balling Swayman, this puts that to bed. Sweeney and management took some heat and now they’re lashing back in a more than reasonable offer to make Sway and his agent the unreasonable one. Still can’t blame him for asking for the raise. He may miss the opening night game, but he hasn’t sabotaged this team or season, frankly. With the way the cap keeps rising "highest paid x ever" doesn't mean much. Players will always get more money than the previous year so eventually someone's going to be the highest paid x for y team

If's there's any position that can sit and wait, it's a goalie. While game conditions are clearly beneficial, they can't (or shouldn't) play more than 60 games anyway. 8x8 seems steep. 8x7 seems more like it, but it's his choice. He's earned his right to bargain.
8x8 doesn't seem steep at all when you consider the rest of the goalies around the league, and the fact that the contract is for 8 years, meaning by the end of it $8million isn't nearly as large of a percentage of the cap as it is at the start of it.

Current contract signed in 2024 at age 31. 60gp. Sorokin 8.25, signed his extension at age 28, 2nd in Vezina voting. 62 gp. Saros 7.75, signed his extension at age 29, 5th in Vezina voting. 64+gp for three straight seasons. Swayman is demanding an 8x8 (likely with trade protection) after playing 1A/1B for 44gp total and coming 7th in Vezina voting. Sorry, but that's not a deal any intelligent GM would sign without a huge cap space cushion to work with. He is not in the territory of any of the above goaltenders and paying him like it could potentially cripple the entire next iteration of the Bruins if done too hastily. Give him a lower AAV deal in the 6-6.5 range, or give him a higher AAV deal with less term. But an 8x8? No way.
I follow the Bruins and alot of the talk in the media is to trade Swayman to Anaheim or a Western Conference team for a forward and a defenseman or forward and another goalie. Many people are tired of Swayman because he hasn't been a full time goalie asking for 8 to 10.

In his all-star career, Neely barely made $8 million over his entire, Ulf Samuelsson shortened playing career. And here's this barely drafted pick from Alaska turning down $8 million a *YEAR* on a long term deal. Neely is about to lose his mind, regretting that he didn't keep Ullmark instead, and watch some other team twist in the wind putting up with his antics.

Swayman is playing chicken with the Bruins. If the Bruins come out strong and are leading the division by mid November, Swayman will crack and sign for an amount closer to the Bruins' offer. If Boston is in the race for a wildcard, the Bruins will have to do something like 10.5 for a year. Either way Swayman is not going to be a Bruin long term.

Hoffman is good enough to be in NHL still so that is kind of shocking unless he wanted way over a min contract. I would rather have Bailey/Hoffman and a few guys who will not make the NHL over Nico Sturm but I know Nico is good on face offs. Musty could use one more season with the Sudbury Wolves. The sharks should be a better team in 1 year anyway.

Yah - Definitely disagree with this assessment. Bruins had every right to throw him under the bus. He is putting himself over the team thinking he is the "right guy" to set the goalie market when he has a career high 43 games in a season, no Stanley cup or Vezina trophy to show for it and a generous offer is clearly on the table. The team is clearly getting tired of being overshadowed by this garbage and taking away from the excitement of the start of the season and, assuming he stays, the full team isn't able to practice or play a preseason game together. I think the Swayman deal will depend on how Korpisalo plays. If Korpisalo plays awful and proves he can’t handle the job of starter then that’ll work in Swayman’s favour but if he plays well then it’s going to make the Bruins think twice. Personally I think if the Bruins had any kind of doubt then they should have kept Ullmark and traded Swayman instead. If you’re saying Swayman is the guy then you should be willing to show confidence in him and not treat him like he’s the problem.

I applaud Swayman for sticking to his guns, just as I do for Sweeney. I'm not signing a goaltender to an 8x8 without knowing he can give me a good 55gp and then carry the water in the playoffs too. I'm lost. A goalies contract is based on what he has done. Swayman has played well enough to get a bridge deal - 2 years, but not the sack load he is holding out for. Let him prove he should earn that kind of coin, if he earns it, pay it after the bridge expires.
As big a Swayman fan as I am, if he has really turned down 8 x 8, then let him sit or take the 3 draft picks if he gets an offer sheet. I am not a fan of 8 year contracts, especially for goalies. Their performance can change drastically from year to year. While the goalie position is so important, there are only 32 #1 positions available so the supply of good goalies exceeds demand, so bargains can be found. When you can have quality goalies like an Anthony Stolarz putting up excellent numbers while, until this year, making less than 1M a year, I do not think there is justification to tie up a lot of money in the goalie position, especially for a goalie that has not even had one season as an undisputed #1 starter.

Every season, I feel it's a bad idea to bet against the Bruins making the playoffs, but the huge overpayment for the Canucks UFAs, losing DeBrusk, and without both their star goalies from last season means this is the year things go off the rails. The Boston goalie crisis reminds me of when Vancouver lost both Schneider and Luongo.
I like it when teams bring in PTOs, but they're mostly there as an injury stop gap if it happens or to help pad out rosters for split squad exhibition games. At least Edmonton only went controversy light with Hoffman and didn't bring in DeAngelo to continue on their offseason pariah theme. Unless a bunch of players got injured, Blais didn't have much hope making the Canucks roster, but he at least got a chance to get noticed by his next team, in whatever league that is.

I totally disagree with you. You have to look at the entire context of what Neely said. Neely and Sweeney have been players and see both sides. They have been very fair to players when it comes to contracts in my opinion.
I never get on a player for wanting to make as much as they can. That said, I don't really want a player on my team that wants money more than winning. Being a Rangers fan, Swayman has me feeling the same about Shesterkin's ''supposed'' asking price as well. Especially if that player hasn't really erarned that money yet. Swayman hasn't even been a full fledged starter yet. And Igor wanting Hasek like pay (Supposedly 12 mil +) better have a Hasek like season and at minimum win the Vezina again but I excpect a cup. Guess Bobrobsky winning a cup at 10 mil inflated these goalies heads. I won't say Bob wasn't good, but Florida won because of hard team work, depth in scoring and depth on defence talent. As with Aiden Hill and Binnington, a got goalie at the right time seems more likely to win a cup than an elite goalie. Just my opinion on the situation.

And with all the rumors that’ve been circulating that Bruins Front-Office is being stingy or low-balling Swayman, this puts that to bed. If's there's any position that can sit and wait, it's a goalie. While game conditions are clearly beneficial, they can't (or shouldn't) play more than 60 games anyway. 8x8 seems steep. 8x7 seems more like it, but it's his choice. He's earned his right to bargain.
8x8 doesn't seem steep at all when you consider the rest of the goalies around the league, and the fact that the contract is for 8 years, meaning by the end of it $8million isn't nearly as large of a percentage of the cap as it is at the start of it.

Swayman is demanding an 8x8 (likely with trade protection) after playing 1A/1B for 44gp total and coming 7th in Vezina voting. Sorry, but that's not a deal any intelligent GM would sign without a huge cap space cushion to work with. He is not in the territory of any of the above goaltenders and paying him like it could potentially cripple the entire next iteration of the Bruins if done too hastily. Give him a lower AAV deal in the 6-6.5 range, or give him a higher AAV deal with less term. But an 8x8? No way.

I follow the Bruins and alot of the talk in the media is to trade Swayman to Anaheim or a Western Conference team for a forward and a defenseman or forward and another goalie. Many people are tired of Swayman because he hasn't been a full time goalie asking for 8 to 10.

I’m so confused about what happened yesterday with Sway and the Bruins. Why would he turn down an 8x8? He’s not gonna get a better deal anywhere. He knows he’s not worth more than that. I’m a huge Bruins fan and I love him but I’m not even sure he’s worth $8m per season. He should be jumping at that offer. Supposedly his agent is kinda shady and has done this in the past even when the player was happy with the offer, so I’m not convinced that’s not the issue.
Since you have a contact in Anaheim, you might see if they can drop a couple helmet stickers for Johnny and Matt in the mail to you, just to have somewhere. The team will certainly be sent a roll or two of them. Just a thought.

Swayman is playing chicken with the Bruins. If the Bruins come out strong and are leading the division by mid November, Swayman will crack and sign for an amount closer to the Bruins' offer. If Boston is in the race for a wildcard, the Bruins will have to do something like 10.5 for a year. Either way Swayman is not going to be a Bruin long term.

Yah - Definitely disagree with this assessment. Bruins had every right to throw him under the bus. He is putting himself over the team thinking he is the "right guy" to set the goalie market when he has a career high 43 games in a season, no Stanley cup or Vezina trophy to show for it and a generous offer is clearly on the table. The team is clearly getting tired of being overshadowed by this garbage and taking away from the excitement of the start of the season and, assuming he stays, the full team isn't able to practice or play a preseason game together.
