    There's always a history for all who died, but some just get lost in time. It's nice that once in a while we are lucky to find one that hasn't been forgotten. Thank you Robert I for the video, and Robert II for the story, and history. Great team work.

    Crazy to think Helen Gordon was alive for Abraham Lincoln's Presidency all the way to Harry Truman. So she got to see the Civil War and WW2. That's so crazy even though she probably didn't remember the Civil War.

      I restored a family stone in West Virginia, and leaning against it was a foot stone. It was rather worn and I could not read what it said. I think the landscapers who mow, put it against the stone so they wouldn’t break it.

      I'm pretty sure if you find older cemeteries there in Michigan you'll see them. I grew up in Louisiana and every cemetery I visited had them on the older graves. I moved to Seneca Falls New York and it's the same thing with the cemeteries close to me. I think it was a way to keep track of where people are buried so when a new grave was dug, it wouldn't accidentally go into the other.

    • @raynonabohrer5624

      Is the foot stones in Oklahoma and in Kansas Nebraska. Ohio Illinois. Something they did the kept from bearing people on top of other people.

    • @ronperrinejr133
      @ronperrinejr133 3 роки тому +2

      @@raynonabohrer5624 i don't know about Oklahoma, Nebraska, or Kansas , but I know there's a few cemeteries in Ohio and Illinois that have foot stones on the older graves. I can't think of the names of them and the towns they are located in at the moment. I do believe that they did use them to keep from accidentally digging into a pre existing grave.

      I'm surprised, as my dad was a WWII veteran and the VA sent us one for him. We did not buy it. I assumed they did that for all veterans, not just veterans who live in the south. After our mom died and we redid their headstone, my siblings had it removed since we did not have one for our mom. Lol, one of my nephews has it. There really was not much to it. It ah only his initials on it and the headstone we had done looked much better quality. That is why we removed it instead of adding one for our mom..

    • @melvawages7143
      @melvawages7143 3 роки тому +3

      Anyway, the footstone was like made of soapstone I think, and their headstones are granite. So it did not "match" and we did not care for it

  • @buttons3232

    The epitaphs are lovely on the old stones. On a different UA-cam channel (Destination Unknown) the couple went to an all African American cemetery in Florida, there are many Mobley’s buried there. I wonder if there could be a connection…I’m happy to know I’m not the only person who finds cemeteries interesting, and now that I cannot walk well that someone can show them to me this way. Thanx. 🇺🇸😎🇺🇸

    What a story!! Tell Robert 2 I did look up the story. My grand granddaddy ran a still over in Tell (old name) Georgia. Wish I could've heard some of his stories. I remember him .. Pawdeck .. but he was bedridden by the time I came along. Eventually my great grandmother .. Mama Green .. would become bedridden in the same "twin" room as him separated by a walkway to the bathroom. Weird thing is they had been divorced for years and hear tell couldn't stand each other but wound up right there next to each other in the end. They had 13 children together who used to snitch them a straw & get them a fresh snout full from tht stills when Pawdeck wasn't looking. This story was told to me by several of their daughters (My Great Aunts & Grandma ). Lord I sorely miss them & their stories!!! Thnx for taking us along & sparking those memories Robert❣️ Great job .. b safe & well .. thnx also for not making us wait too long for part 2 .. wink wink😊🙏🏼💓🥃🥃🥃CHEERS

    I love to learn some history of the people represented by those graves and memorials. Many of those graves are so old that few living souls remember who they were or what they were like.
    The story of that gun fight does sound like an old west shoot out. One person representing the law against another law person from a different department or town. Criminal minds never go away. They just change clothing and tactics along with the era.
