I fitted it to all my top sets now after using it in a couple last year. It frightened the life out of me the first time I foul hooked a munter, it stretched forever...but I got it in. Excellent product.
Wish I seen this video much earlier. I just kitted out my new drennan red range 11m with all slik elastic one got 10-12 12-14 14-16 as my venue is natural and has plenty of snags and lots of big lumps in avage 6lb with them going up to 14lb. Got to say my favourite is most definitely 14-16 yellow as it just gets job done. Great video Ben. Thanks 😊
just what was needed some advice on slik as wanting to use it for first time ,very helpful . looking forward to bens next vid on tying beads and knots .
Great instruction Ben, the tensioning bit makes perfect sense.
Very good informative video, coupling elastic with approx line diameters
Ben can you put a light on you are in the shade. tight lines
Great Video Ben cheers enjoyed
Love the green 8-10 I think it is perfect for everything really
Connors Coarse Fishing Journey no it’s not if you hook a 15 pound carp or even a 10 pond carp
Well youv sold me the 6-8. I often catch 2oz roach then a 10lb carp so I never seem to have the right elastic in. Cheers Frisky 😂
Less of the cheek😆 Good elastic for that yes but if you're match fishing try and separate your lines more if that's happening. Have a carp line with big hard pellets and a silver fish line with light gear and keep swapping
I did that Ben and brought the one down lighter. Same Brand and type Hybrid Slik but the 16-18 I will now have two elastics one spare Ben. I'm unsure what it means but the Matrix Torque 8.5 meter margin pole comes with two tops? When it arrives I expect I'll know what it is, if its two tops I can put the strong elastic in the spare one? Thanks Ben for all that kind advice buddy. Rich.
great info ben earned my sub, which elastics are you using in a short kit and which do you use in a top 2, i seemed to be forever buying top kits...all the best scott
Short kits I only use for f1s in the warmer months Scott so usually 10-12 slik or 10 core hollow when its bagging time
Good video Ben, is there any charts out there that match up the elastics with the recommended elastics
Yes if you look on the Matrix website under articles, Jon Arthur has done some charts I believe 👍
@@BenFiskFishing thanks, you are a star
Ben. Last one Ha! Am I right in thinking you're trying all the time to get the fish onto the top kit, where the elastic is as quick as possible? And what is the benefit of pulling the elastic when a carp its on the top kit. Can this go wrong? Once again you have been very generous with you're time thank Buddy.
It can go wrong yes Richard, you are not looking to rush back to your kit.... let the fish run and the elastic do the work before it slows and comes back towards you. The puller is for putting more pressure on at the net but dont overdo it or you'll break kits etc, just a couple of pulls.
It's easier for me to answer on my Facebook page Ben Fisk Fishing if you're on that, also hoping to start my coaching back up in the next few weeks if that's an avenue you wanted to go down. One session will save a lot of frustration and time learnt the hard way if you're just getting into pole fishing bud
Ive never seen a fish run ha ha!
Ben what colour would you recommend generally I catch between 5/14 lbs thanks
16-18 Pete. Maybe lighter if it's just open water.
Don't get it. How can it stretch 6 times more than conventional elastic? That would mean that it stretches 30 times it's original length!
Have you found Ben you have to tighten Slik up much more than other elastics, due to its higher stretch?
Yes Richard initially but thats no bad thing as you are redoing your knots occasionally so the same bit of elastic isn't getting hammered at the connector
Big Carp Ben at places like Hallcroft Moat lake?
I would strongly recommend the grade below the 16-18. It's a bit softer so will stretch further and mean less chance of losing a fish through a breakage or hook pull than the 18-20 if you're just starting with the pole.
You'll need to get used to balancing your rig right so it's better to start a bit lighter. It's easy to thread through the kit.... remember to start at the puller Bush end and thread it down to the narrow end . Tapping it on the carpet narrow end down helps the elastic come through the end bush
If you could give me some advice be really appreciated,
What size elastics do people recommend for :-
F1’s?
Medium size carp?
Large carp?
I have 5 top kits so was going to set 2 up for F1 fishing, 2 medium carp kits and 1 heavy kit.
10-12 for f1s, stepping down to 8-10 in December to march. For carp of use 14-16 at the moment, 12-14 once it becomes cold and frosty. You dont need massive elastics for big carp at this time of year as you just risk losing them on smaller hooks.
Ben I know you busy, but if you could advise please? I've brought the 4.5 margin Torque pole from Matrix, it my first dabble with a pole. I'm thinking the red 18-20 should be ok for big lumps. Is it easy to fit down the pole as its thicker? Thanks Richard.
Hi Richard what are you going to be targeting with the pole and what sort of venue?
Don’t forget Ben there are a few occasions where you don’t want to much stretch.💪
What lubricant do you recommend for the elastic. Do you use the hair conditioner or something else.
Just the Drennan one Brian
Interesting video
Hi Ben could you please tellme is there a rig line guide to matrix hybrid elastic please help John Coulson
Yes there should be on the Matrix website John, on an article Jon Arthur has done I believe
Hi Ben do you think it would be ok to put 12-14 slik in a matrix ultra match kit as they are rated to 12 and going by the elastic is more like the lower number if that makes sense? And it’s thinner than the hollow equivalent. (Ps if you get a chance a video on mugging would be handy as I’m struggling)
Thanks Brian
12-14 slik is the most I put in a Ultra 1 match kit too Brian so thats fine👍 Im going to make some more videos hopefully if and when I'm well again.
Thanks for replying and get well soon
What's the max grade you'd put through a match kit Ben? Guessing you can go a bit higher?
Definitely 12-14. 14-16 you can probably just about get away with depending on the pole
When did the 10-12 change from red to pink? Why did it change?
Its still red Stephen. Its pink on the packet.
Can you use 16-18 green for f1s
It's a bit too much Adam, this time of year 10-12, dropping down to 8-10 next month
Do you recommend the mtx3 ultra or mtxultra4
I love my 4 but the 3 is mega value for £1300. I'd get that with plenty of spares
Legend.
Are Dacron connectors ok to use on Slik elastic
Fine Rob yes, although I make my own. Going to do a video on that soon
I use dacron on mine with no problems.
Would you use 18-20 with a puller or not
Yes always because of how soft I set them
Yay clicked and collected the orange only to find out when i got home there's now 2 different orange and ended up with 20 22 not what i wanted at all
🙈 two lots of orange, red, yellow and green Trevor. 20-22 great summer margin elastic though set very soft
@@BenFiskFishing think when i first bought slik there was only one orange didn't want anything quite that high only have a small amount of top kits and i try to aim for elastic that isn't two soft or hard so it will be going back to drop down a couple of no
@@BenFiskFishing I was in a rush . Thanks for the reply
I love this elastic and replaced my hollows with it as i didnt get on with em but do you still use hollows or are you just selling the product
I use hollows in extreme snags. I also use the 10 Core hollow through shallow kits when bagging F1s in summer so you dont have to use a puller much
@@BenFiskFishing thanks for reply video was very informative i hooked a duck on the 4 to 6 close in it flew 30yds across the lake before shedding the hook amazing elastic
Ben. Would that be a good line 16-18 to use all the time for my carp fishing in general? I mean to use on fish from a few pounds upwards?
A good line for it would be about 0.18mm (6-7lb). You're right you will get two top kits with it. The 18-20 is a serious bit of kit which will need big hooks and 6-8lb line to balance, bit overgunned for small carp but others will be ok
What 3 ratings would you recommend from silvers to big carp?
That's a wide spectrum Joe! But probably 6-8, 10-12, 16-18
