- It's so good to be back and creating content again! Today I'm reviewing the Celestron Trailseeker 80 Spotting Scope. I bought this to use on my Birding Tours all over Africa. I must say, I'm really impressed with Celestron and the technology that went into this scope! Have a look and let me know if you have any other questions about the scope!
Ps. Did I mention that it's good to be back?!

I have the 100mm and I think it’s great. I agree with your points and would just add another pro: you can use other compatible eyepieces with the scope, so that gives you more flexibility.
That’s a great point! Thanks for that! I didn’t know that!🤠
I have this scope and I agree with everything he says here. It's pretty good for the money even though at magnifications above 40X it is ridiculous. One problem I've had though is this. I bought it for digiscoping and it works really well for this as long as you don't go above 30X. But after a few days of use the threads under the rubber eyecup gave out and now I can no longer remove the rubber eyecup to attach their T adapter which is used to fasten to a T ring and then to a camera. The threads are seized. I contacted Celestron and they offered to replace the whole scope as it has a lifetime warranty. I am reluctant to return it just to fix the eyepiece. I have ordered an adapter that clamps around the eyepiece and hopefully fixes the problem. The eyepiece is terrific at powers from 20 to 30X and works well for digiscoping. It gives great pictures at 20-30X. Other 1.25" eyepieces can be used as well with the scope. But the original eyepiece is the best that I have seen so far for digiscoping. I paid twice what he did and don't know where he bought it new for such a low price. Still a great value.
Hi Michael! Thank you for your comment and adding value to anyone considering getting this scope!
Fortunately I don't use it for digiscoping, so no opinions from me there. I managed to snag a deal off AMAZON for the price I paid.
Thanks again! I hope your scope offers many hours of joy!
Have since returned it for another one just like it. And bought a Meade 8-24X eyepiece that has better threads.
And how was the returning process??
@@SafariWian B&H Photo sent me a new one after I returned it, no questions asked. Has a lifetime warranty.
Would you say it is worth for about $190 USD ?
that blueish tinge you're describing is called chromatic aberration and it's caused by different wavelengths of light splitting apart as it passes through the lenses.
Thanks for the explanation. Made is super easy to understand💪🏻
@@SafariWian it’s a common problem with refracting telescopes but can be fixed by adding more lenses (though they’re usually more expensive.) Apochromatic refractors eliminate the problem almost entirely.
Cuál es mejor, este telescopio o el celestron ultima 100?
For a resevoir that has birds roughly 150 yards off shore do you reckon this?
This will definitely do the job🤠
What do you mean by it only getting up to 40x instead of 60x ? What happened when you dialed 60x ?
Hi there @g bruceg. Once you hit 60x magnification, the edges get a little blurry and it also gets that “blueish” tinge (Chromatic Aberration) around the edges.
I hope this helps🤠
@@SafariWian oh okay. That makes sense. 🙏
You’re welcome🤠
I have a question, i am considering to buy one of these scopes to observe animals and occasionally the moon; crossing on internet I’ve seen two different models of scopes: the Celestron trailseeker 80 and the Celestron ultima 80, both with pretty the same characteristics. Can you advise me which one of them is better for you? Thank you for your time and great video ;)
Hey Daniel. I personally believe that the Trailseeker is the better option, simply because it’s been made to work. I prefer the rubber coating of the Trailseeker over the harder body of the Ultima.
I use my a scope for a lot of birding and it does take a beating in the African bush!
I hope this helps.
Did you end up getting it ?
@@Gave-rf1hr yep, I got the trailseeker, really nice scope with magnificent colors through the lenses in the range 30x/40x big raccomendation👍
@@Danax003 does the quality degrade much beyond 40x ? Have you tried any astro viewing ? I am curious how the XLT performs for stars and such
How great would this be to see the craters in the moon?
Hi ItssJustSam. It actually works quite well. The zoom isn’t too great, so catching a full moon while it’s still low would be best and I would suggest doing it as far away from any light pollution as possible.
Are you considering getting a scope?
@@SafariWian I am! But there's just so many and so many kinds for different purposes, so I'm still doing my research on them.
That’s great, take your time, especially with a purchase like this. What’s your main goal got getting a spotting scope??
@@SafariWian animals and occasionally the moon
How much did you pay for it? I'm looking for a telescope so it would be useful if you can share the link where you bought it from. Thank you.
Hi Hoan Ngoc Vu, I paid USD 270.00 for mine on Amazon. Here’s a link www.amazon.com/Celestron-52332-TrailSeeker-Degree-Spotting/dp/B014TI7MG8/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?keywords=celestron+80&qid=1582477495&sr=8-11. I hope this helps, but please let me know if I can help with anything else.
@@SafariWian thank you very much!
Hoan Ngoc Vu Any time!
120 dollars for this? It is 350 Euros in Europe...
That’s what I paid at the time, yes🤠 I had it shipped to SA from USA🤠
There is no clarity at higher magnification and images are not so clear
