Wow. Many memories of her above the water. Fitting resting place for a workhorse that's earned her rest. There are some videos of her final speed trials on UA-cam. The old girl could move
Not sure what they are, will have to ask the husband. He served a lot of time on HMAS Stalwart. When she was decommissioned she was sent to India and carved up on a beach. Galad to see Hobart faired better@crabecam
Holy heck, another new favorite video, loved the blue devil fish at 1:12 and 2:13, 4:12 and many other shots, and then the coralification shots of the ship interior, but the mess hall table and chairs turned into living corals was poetic as hell. This video makes me feel hopeful about shade helping to preserve some corals from bleaching temps. Didn’t know so many can live in the dark. 6:52 boarfish is glorious.
Wow !! I feel a little sad watching this !! Spent plenty of time on her !! Sat is those seats, slept in her, spent many many hours on the bridge, watched those guns fire many times, watched those directors in action after SM-2 firings !! Saw the patches and repair made to her after the friendly fire attack in 1968, the sailor that died was on the flag deck, my part of ship ! but she still lives on in the ocean, where she belongs !!
I am constantly amazed at the deeply emotional connection ex crew members have for this ship and the incredible stories they tell. I was at the anchor dedication ceremony held at Lady Bay prior to the sinking and the crew members attending were treated as true Aussie heroes. Andy and others, through their videos, really highlight the ships journey into the afterlife - the brilliant "Grave of the Green Ghost".
Remember them being built at Williamstown Dockyard Melbourne. The aluminium superstructure should act as a giant anode for the steel hull..
Gorgeous. And the labels are appreciated. 😁
Lovely to watch thank you .
Fabulous tour thanks
The Green Ghost
Love how you also included photos of HMAS Hobart the way she was!

I think it is a great resting place. I'll check out those speed trials 😀 thanks
Do you know what that fame is at 1:20 ish, looks like a wine rack, lots of little boxes?

Sorry if it’s sad, hopefully it’s interesting and I’m with you, this is a fitting end for a great ship, much better than being broken up for scrap! 🙂
@@crabecam not sad so to speak I guess, just brings back a lot of memories 👍

This is a FFG....not a DDG?
