Emily! I'm by no means an avid reader... but I was so inspired by you that I set a reading goal, went on a shopping spree earlier this year, and have aimed to knock out at least one book a month in 2023. Here is the list! READ: Meditations Alice's Adventures in Wonderland The Sun Also Rises The Defining Decade The Communist Manifesto Currently Reading: Poetics The Diary of Anne Frank The Penguin Book of Japanese Short Stories TBR: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime The Little Prince Crime and Punishment A Christmas Carol Happy to see your videos again. Keep going!!
How did you like the Manifesto? I heartily recommend Marx's seminal work, Das Kapital, which really demonstrates his brilliance. Marx was much more of a social *pathologist* rather than a social theorist; he is amazing at illuminating the oppression and injustice inherent to capitalist systems.
@@picklethepirate well, from what I can remember (I read it in February) I liked his concept of the proletariat. I view the term as a protagonist against the social structure of society, which is a hopeful reminder that there may be success and profit in a society that at times doesn’t seem to be designed to favor the rights of everyday citizens, especially lower- middle class citizens like me. Although it may be impossible to completely find freedom within the societal structure, at least there is still hope through the proletariat for revolution, change, and liberty. I’m no scholar so my view may be completely and utterly wrong though!! Also a random thought is that the repeated use of the term “bourgeoisie” made me giggle.
Daniel, this means so much to me! I really am so glad that you've found reading to be a great hobby for you. I thought Meditations was really interesting, and I'm curious to know how you like Poetics when you finish. I am also hoping to read Crime and Punishment! Though when I read it I feel very dumb, lol. Thank you for commenting, it was so great to hear from you!
Right? The orange on the color really makes it pop, I think. We should TOTALLY buddy read Scythe (and finish The Poppy War?? :) ) TBH I think I'm going to DNF The Witches :( It just is not good imo.
Welcome back! You have a couple here that have been on my TBR for some time, but I haven't gotten around to reading them (Scythe) or haven't been able to get ahold of yet (These Witches Don't Burn)
Thank you! If you end up reading Scythe, I would love to hear your thoughts on it! Same with These Witches Don't Burn. I'm pretty excited to read both. ALSO have you read or heard about the Red White and Royal Blue reviews for the movie? hahah I am both intrigued and worried for it at the same time.
Welcome back!!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️🌹 Happy to see you again.
Thank you!!! I'm glad to be back.
Yay Scythe!! One of the best series imo
AHHH I'm so glad to hear you say this! I can't wait to start it.

Well I ardently await your analysis on it! Idk when I'll have the chance to see it. Hopefully sooner rather than later!
