The fact that he survived a crash going 157 mph is just mind boggling. I could only imagine what that poor boy felt in his last moments. The driver should not have been allowed bail. That is GROSS criminal negligence.

The SUV was likely going about 80mph which would be like hitting a stopped SUV at 77mph which is consistent with the damage to the Camaro and the SUV. Luckily it was a Lincoln SUV and not a Toyota or everyone in the SUV would have died.

Well manslaughter and murder are two completely different charges. He would and should be able to get a bond because his charges aren’t such that he intentionally commit a horrible crime. He has his rights as well and to legal counsel and bail. Now, maybe the system could be fixed to adjust the amount of that bond so it’s high enough to where it would be much more costly and less likely for him to get out but that’s a different story altogether. Just imagine one of ur children made a horrible mistake that hurt someone else unintentionally, u would want ur kid not being locked up until trial so u and ur family could best take care of ur child to protect them from serving life or most of their life over an accident no matter how bad it was.

Front of the car has a lot of mass before the driver. The entire front of the car is a buffer before the driver. The back of an SUV is relatively unprotected. It also doesnt help that the fuel tank is located in the rear of the SUV around the location of the rear passenger seats. The force of the impact most likely trapped the victim and the vehicle burst into flames from the ruptured fuel tank.

There needs to be far higher punishments for most ALL CRIMINAL OFFENSES in the U.S. Our system is way too soft on people who end up being repeat offenders…AND ..when others see ppl get let go with just a slap on the wrist, that gives ppl no reason to not do it themselves. Make punishments stronger..see how many ppl keep doing what they’re doing. Not talking about drugs, nobody should be charged for willingly ingesting a substance. But gun offenses are perfect example and Chicago is just as perfect of an example. The prosecutor/States Attorney of Cook County is infamous for letting criminals off with just a slap on the wrist. Insane. There are a large number of cars today that are ridiculously quick. I have spent quite a bit of time on race tracks and know what that kind of speed means, It's not just a number on a dial. Turning or stopping at speed is very different than at highway speed. Going that speed on a public highway at night you are unlikely to be able to turn or stop if you see an obstacle in your lane, no matter what your eyes and instincts tell you. So here's a 22 year old kid who had a racecar fast car with street tires flying through the night just looking for a place to die.

@@fitnesspoint2006 I didn't believe it so looked it up. Yes, a Rav4 can reach its electronically limited top speed of 119mph. That would be a terrible idea in any small SUV, even on an empty Autobahn. But in the time that it takes a Rav4 to go from 0-60 several popular electric cars could be going well over 100. Above about 120 the air has a much stronger influence on how a car handles. My car, not the fast model, can easily reach its 170mph electronic speed limiter. I would never go that fast on a public road. At anything over 140 turning, braking and changes in road grade can feel dramatically different and it is easy for an untrained driver to lose control. today there are a number of cars that can exceed 200mph. Stability control gives drivers a false sense of security but can be almost worse than useless at that speed. Cars that can reach freeway speed from a stoplight in 2 seconds or less and exceed the Rav4's top speed withing 6 seconds are a terrifying prospect in the hands on an eighteen year old. These cars are starting to enter the affordable used car market.

I took off work for one day, to pick up my vehicle from the dealership after an accident, and I just happened to be home.
