Can’t believe I’ve only just discovered this video! Amazing, clear, great advice, great camera angles!!
Without a doubt, the clearest and most applicable explanation of wrist hinge ive ever watched. Game changer for me. Thank you so much for taking the time and focus to effectively explain what so many have not been able to. Well done.
Pre setting my bowed left wrist during the take away and keeping it bowed the all the way 6 inches post impact has totally revolutionised my game. That is the key I believe.
Totally agree. Once I stopped trying to keep my right wrist cocked but kept my left wrist bowed has made my iron contact significantly better.
Excellent
What i am wondering is you are also supposed to twist that bowed left wrist to the right aswell? And so my question then is should it keep that right twist angle all the way down?
I love your first person view angle, very effective to show what the club path should look like.
This was an incredibly helpful video for me, Russell. Thanks for all the lessons and Happy New Year!
Outstanding explanation and demonstration of the wrist set. So helpful. Thanks.
Love the POV views. Gives unique perspectives and easier to relate to feel vs real scenarios.
Ok I’m on it
Why the hell does no one talk about this!!?? This would make so many people better. Love it!
I tried this move at the weekends before most of my iron shots and my ball striking and ball flight were vastly improved. Great little tip
Russ, played with this swing thought in my head today. Couldn’t believe a huge difference in my ball striking. Had one of my best rounds in a long time today shot 79… as I said before brilliant video :) thank you
Really well explained! I’ve been working on getting less steep on the ball, but hadn’t thought anything about the wrists. I’m exited to give this a go.
Thanks . I have watched thousands of golf videos. I should say this is one of the best. Well done.
This is legitimately one of the top 3 golf tips I've ever seen. For me, it completely eliminates worrying about what my wrists should be doing throughout the swing. With that out of the way, all I have to worry about is swing path and low point control - not easy but the golf swing got a lot simpler. It clicked immediately with a 7i and took like a day to get it with the woods as I wasn't holding the hinge in the trail wrist as much as I needed to. Golf just got fun again, much appreciated
🙏🏻
Fair play, this was extremely well explained and to the point, I have been working on this myself but was not sure this now gives me the confidence to continue, Thank you.
Russ. Thank you! Your ability to isolate the issue and explain the method is a good as it gets. You are the best out there and I really appreciate the opportunity to learn from you.
Another good one!! Can't wait to try your instruction
this is very helpful, thanks!!
Loved the easy explanation and top view down. Made it so easy to understand. Thank you!!
This was an eye opener. Thanks
Hey Russ!! I just found your channel and I must say that you are an OUTSTANDING teacher. Wow. It's definitely a gift. Thanks so much for making and sharing these video's with us. Appreciate it. Jeff.
Excellent video, never seen the wrist movement in the swing explained so well, playing tomorrow so will be focussing on this!
I've been searching for an introduction video that would detail the role of the back wrist for a while, this is by far the best and most straightforward I have found, completely changed my swing development thanks RH.
Great vid! Loved the breakdown between cocking and hinging and maintaining the hinge post contact (don’t worry about wrist on follow through)!
2nd comment on this video.... this is the best golf video on UA-cam, just try it!!! He’s the only one that has explained this correctly, scored my best round ever today just changing my cocking to a hinge of the right wrist..
Russell, I'm a long time golfer that only played a couple rounds a year. I never posted a good score and I rarely practiced. I played to have social time with my buddies. However, I have decided to get serious about golf after I played 3 rounds this past fall. My swing was a mess. Steep take away, no wrist hinge, steep swing with a flip at contact. I shot a 109 and 105 in the rounds I kept score.
I decided to take a lesson and I have struggled worse since. I am scheduled for my 2nd lesson on Thursday. I find that my instructor has me doing similar things on my take away, but he didn't explain it like you. It is making much more sense now. I really appreciate your videos and IMO they are the best I've found regarding instruction and explanation. I really want to thank you! Have a great 2022 season!!
Great insight. It did transform my swing.
Awesome video. Great content. Thanks
Needed this!
Awesome. So many descriptions of wrist hinge that screw us up but this is gold. It's like a forward press position that sets the trail wrist backward then just hold it. A set it and forget it move 👍
So simple but so important. This is the missing link in my golf swing. Thank you so much!
I want to thank you for this video which I just found yesterday and took your instruction to my home course today…this understanding of wrist conditions allowed me to shoot my lowest score of the season a 77 on. Par 72 course. I was, to say the least, elated ! This worked with all my clubs from driver to sand wedge, and I was amazed ( as were my playing partners) as to how it changed the accuracy and compression of my ball striking. A very grateful subscriber from Nova Scotia. Cheers Mike.
That was excellent. I can see it now when you watch the pros.
I feel comfortable doing this it gives me confidence in my swing.
Quality 👌
A Great Lesson Russell
I haven't even tried this yet, (well some sort of it) but your video angle really helps show exactly what needs to be done. When I feel like I hinge my wrists down to impact I see the greatest distance improvements on my shots. I guess I have to practice this for a while to start bottoming out my club correctly and not keep changing swing thoughts and hinge/cock of wrists. Thanks bud!!!
Really great advise ! I use it now and my game changed a lot. Thank you !
This is the best video ever explaining how to work the wrist and the the view from top Infront is golden. Can’t wait until tomorrow to try it out.
Good luck 👍🏻
This is a great one!
Spot on !!! A movement no one talks about !!!
Great use of camera visuals, really helpful.
Excellent tip the best that I've applied , gained 10 more yards on all my irons. Gained 30 yards on my drives , thank you very much for this video. Kind Regards Russel !
your instrucion is articulate and concise
Brilliant video. One of the clearest I’ve watched. Even covered driver which I’m struggling with the most. Hopefully it might sort a few issues out.
Another little Russell golden nugget, you've mentioned this before and it has had a greater effect on my directional consistency than anything else that I've been working on, brilliant, thanks
Thanks Martin
I have learnt a lot from you mate can't fault you
This is a game changer video Russell
I have played golf for a long time and have gotten down to a low handicap all without wrist hinge. I honestly didn't know how to do it. As I got older my club seemed to never get behind me causing all kinds of trouble on the way down. This simple explanation of HOW to hinge has greatly improved my game and made golf fun again. Thanks Russell!
Once again excellent presentation Russell, thank you.
🙏🏻
Eureka Moment for me, great video 🎉
Always great instruction!! For sure, it gonna help me in long run. 👍
Thanks Tony
As a golfer who suffers from rolling my hands / arms and opening the clubface early in my backswing this feel and drill is king!! Thanks for sharing good sir!
Great video your explanations are always clear it really helps that you break things down in such detail covering the common issues as a beginner they’re valuable to me in gaining understanding 👍⛳️
Thanks David
this makes the take away feel so much better and natural...ive only tried this hitting a ball into a net so i dont really know what the ball flight did but it felt good really good. great video
Great lesson and tip to improve on compression and feel!! Thanks
Thanks Kennneth
Another great one! That was great detail on the hinging and cocking actions and what they do to the club face...most teachers say you need to do them but leave it at that and don't go into all the effects of those actions.
Thanks Rich
Loved it. Russell is one of the best UA-cam instructors!
🙏🏻
This is transformative! I have, up till now, had this totally wrong. I have always cocked my wrists up. I thought that this is what hinging meant. Then I would hold that up-cocked position as long as possible. I just hit a bucket with this newly understood definition of the "hinge". WOW! Thank you! I cannot express just how transformative this move is.
Love this. It's funny 8ve had lessons for years and not one pro has ever told me this. Great content, thanks so much. 👍👌💯😎
Love the “golfer’s eye view” cam, Russ. Definitely seems like an untapped market wrt YT instruction vids. Keep up the great work!
Appreciate it
This is a brilliant video. I've misunderstood wrist hinge for 30 years, always trying to rotate left wrist, rather than hinge right wrist. 👍
I rediscovered this today and I what a difference in ball contact! It’s amazing how much of a difference it can make in the rest of your swing positions if you maintain that hinge throughout the backswing and into impact. Nicely explained, Russ!
When you reach the top, does the left wrist (lead wrist for right handed people) 'add' to the wrist cock by cocking it 'toward the sky' (upwards)?
Loved those camera shots from your eye view, they were brilliant. What about a whole swing looking round at different stages like that. Love the content by the way, look forward to it every evening.
Good idea
Great! Thanks a lot Russell! Your statement: " if you get enough body-rotation..." is key for me to maintain the wrist-cocking through impact. Thanks for the clarity!
👍🏻
Great video very helpfull and very simple to understand. Federico from argentina
This is sooo good - and important. I struggled a lot with clubhead control until I found this extencion of the right hand.
Yes I will add this in thanks Russell
Thanks Danny
Nice explanation Russel!
Excellent!
Great tips
Brilliant!
Great vid Russell this is exactly what my local pro has had me working on during lessons prior to 2nd lockdown, got lesson on Wednesday be interesting to see how my swing is after 4 weeks of no golf
Good luck 👍🏻
Have been struggling with over the top motion for a couple of years now after becoming too confident about my swing. Tried this out at the range today and I started hitting my 8-P pretty solid. I started pulling a few shots left but eventually ended up hitting them straigt with pretty decent contact and started feeling that compression of the golfball again. Must admit I have been pretty close quitting golf after being really satisfied and confident with my ironplay for a couple of years, to end up feeling like I have never played golf before again. I am still struggling a lot with my longer irons though, dont know why. Anyway, thank you for putting out so much quality content. Steffen, Norway
I always come back to you for some great
Tips and basics, easy to understand. 18 to 15
Back to 18. My path back to 15 and below begins. Thank you.
So good! 🔥🔥🔥
👍🏻
The head camera really works for me. It is easier to see things as we should. Thanks for trying it and hopefully more to come.
Will be
@@russellheritagegolf thanks Russell. I have been working on a more rotational swing and your videos have really helped get me from 4 to 2. Hopefully these new camera angles will push me a bit lower.
Nice simple but extremely useful lesson, thanks.
Thanks John
Thank you!
Great video going to try it out on the first trip to the range later
Awesome
Thanks That makes since
Thanks Don
really great 👍 very helpful
Thanks
Great video - and liking the camera angle from the front too!
Thanks Mark
Really helpful. Ive always focused on the left wrist and ignored the right. This shows you that the right is also important
Brilliant !!!!!!!
Great video and important advice to make sure to have plenty of rotation through impact when wrist is hinged
This was extremely helpful, well explained.. trail wrist hinge with body rotation is what I was not doing, so have been a notorious flipper! Thank you!! R
Hi Russell thanks for your content. This is an area where so much misinformation/conflict arises. I have had lessons where I am told doing this is a ‘death move’ and effectively adds yet another moving part to your swing. It’s easy to see how people get confused when coaches contradict each other. Thanks again
Glad it helps
THIS ADVICE IS GOLD! I've been struggling with hitting the ball FAT with irons about 20% of the time for quite a while, so I tried this today at the driving range. I hit about 20 balls with a 7 iron. INSTANTLY picked up 10 yards and hit the ball more consistently. Went out and played 18 and had the best round that I've had in the past 25 rounds and it would have even been better if my short game would have been on. Thank you sooooooo much!
👍🏻
Brilliant thank you 👍
🙏🏻
I needed to understand this many years ago … but I get it now 👍🏾
I like this better than bowing the left wrist, because it gets the right arm in perfect position for me. Great lesson!
You mean hinging the trailing wrist, the right wrist? I'm assuming that you are right handed.
I think this is one of your best videos Russell and is reminiscent of Joe Dante's teachings from the 50's. This highlights a fault I've had due to faulty teaching or faulty understanding about wrist 'cock' and how the wrists set on the takeaway and backswing. When I've done it correctly in the past (unwittingly I imagine) my swing has felt so solid and really powerful, but unfortunately I've not really understood what I've done and have soon gone back to bad/faulty habits. So, many thanks for this
Exactly the teaching of Joe Dante,
Head camera gives a really good visual. Excellent explanation as always. Cheers Russ!
Thanks Colin
Have struggled for years with a roll in wrist motion and cupped right wrist. This has changed my game. Early wrist set and maintain it all the way. Great explanation.
When you reach the top, does the left wrist (lead wrist for right handed people) 'add' to the wrist cock by cocking it 'toward the sky' (upwards)?
Greg Norman has said to pull the right hand bent. This is a good demonstration, thanks Russell.
Bravoooo!!! Great Videooo!!!!
Thanks Luis
Great video
Spot on. Much more accurate result.
Best vid l've seen in 5 years.
This has helped immensely as I have been guilty of rolling the wrists resulting in all sorts of rubbish!!!
Russel - this was one of the most impactful videos I have ever seen. The trail wrist flex also creates a slight bow in your left wrist (for us right handed people) For me, once you do this in the intial take away, the rest is just taking the club up to the top. Again - outstanding! Marc

Excellent
you deserve all of those 100k subscriber. Keep up the excellent videos.
Thank you
