awesome video as always. needed this, been bored waiting out hurricane imra here in bradenton fl. been without power for a day now. good thing we have had the winds from the storms to make it comfortable. got the generator going tonight so i can get on youtube. thanks again
Thanks Ernie! Glad you had the generator going so you could catch up! Hope all is well after the storms 👍
I absolutely love your videos.
I would love to go on a kayak camping trip with a bunch of people. This gets me through the long cold winters here. I'm in Eastern Oregon.....
Hey thanks James!!! Well, sounds like you may need to look into RockaDock 2019 ;)
Nice vid I love this canoe trip. I own alapaha rise, glad you enjoyed it. Largest spring in the US
Thanks Herd! It was a great trip and how cool you own that spot!!!!! Very cool.....
I ended up getting called to Live Oak, Fl to transport generators from Kentucky after Irma hit. I ended up near a site close to the Suwannee River...I remembered your trip and looked up the Suwannee Springs...i was just a few minutes from the springs, In Jasper. Found this condemned graffitied bridge with great views of the river, water seems more black in person. Headed over to the springs, the stone structure was completely submerged. The river had risen so much! Just an awesome coincidence! Loved the area, I'm going to look into a weekend trip and check those cozy cabins out. Thanks for the videos!
Oh wow! I remember paddling under that huge bridge! Yes, the water is weirdly black, that's the only thing I didn't enjoy to the fullest. Definitely come back and try out the cabins!
I’m hooked on your videos! Always great! Keep up the good work!!
Haha that's awesome to hear! Will do!
Love your channel you are always upbeat and positive that's awesome i live the long video's. Thank you for making another cool video have a good day and stay safe
I appreciate that Jimmy and I'm glad you enjoy the long videos. I try to cut out as much "boringnes" out of them as I can to keep them interesting. Thanks for watching and your welcome! Take care!
SailingandSuch Thank you for being so positive and upbeat and making awesome vids have a good day and stay safe
Love all your videos. Best real world application and advice I can find. Would love to see a sup/kayak trip in a marshy lowcountry area.
Thanks Nate!!! I try to be real or I guess I just try to be my honest self... Marshy/lowcountry area? Have you seen my trip in the Dead Lakes? It's on the kayak - ua-cam.com/video/zVivNX8SmUQ/v-deo.html
Pretty interesting spot but I think your suggestion is a good one... I need to find a spot ;)
Love it! Your videos get me pumped. We're doing a full length run of Econfina in two months. Now I'm looking to add the Suwannee to the to do list this fall/winter too!
Glad they get you pumped! They get me pumped to! Oh cool! I've done Ecofina on canoes and am wanting to go back sometime.... The Suwannee is something not to be missed!
GREAT video! 36:50 Suns out Guns out brother.
Be safe
That Matt! Haha! Oh yea. Headed into work 12 hours early before the storm hits. Should be exciting! lol
I like those awesome places there you visit there awesome man 😎😎😎😎😎
This place certainly was pretty awesome! Thanks for watching!
Hey what’s goin on Trip I only recently subscribed to your UA-cam but you have already inspired me to try out some over night kayak camping with that being said your channel is vary entertaining and full of good knowledge and some comedy..keep it up man 👍🏼👌🏼
Hey MO! That's so cool man. Hope you Get Out There and enjoy an overnighter! I'll keep the content coming bud. Thanks!
Enjoyed your video. I wonder if there are gators in the Suwannee? I see so many people swimming there and that is all I can think of!
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, there are gators but they tend not to bother people I guess lol
A few river miles up stream off hiway 441 is Cone Bridge and a wma, which I forget the name of. Nice area river is beautiful and makes for a great float
From White Springs
Cool thanks James!
Great video! I have been researching that section of the Suwannee for a while now. Also, a great kayaking and camping section here in North East FL is the Pellicer Creek/ Matanzas Inlet area. Launch from Marineland Marina, head across the ICW and camp at the first come-first served spoil islands of Faver Dykes State Park, then fish and explore Pellicer Creek and the Fort Matanzas Nat'l Monument. - Dan
Thanks Daniel! Just checked out that area on Google maps and looks pretty good. Lots of history! Maybe I'll get the chance to paddle there one day... Thanks for sharing!
I love you man Hahaha! You are a perfect cross between Murr form impractical jokers and Andy from the Office
Thanks Devin! I'll take that as a compliment! Love both of those people lol
Trip Smith Hahaha! Rock on brother!! My friends were trying to talk me into kayaking. Researching the hobby I found you and hooked on the idea of it all lol. Looking to get a Sun Dolphin 12 ft. Sit in 300$ at wallmart to start out.
I lay laughing on the floor for your tunes. keep going with them, I like!
Nice! WIll do! Glad you enjoy them!
Another great vid thanks for inspiring me to go kayak camping too never had so much fun
+Alan Connelly Thanks Alan and I'm so happy to hear you've enjoyed your time paddling!
be safe with this storm, brother
Will do! Thanks!
Thanks so much been waiting
You're welcome! Hope you enjoyed it!
Why are there not people here? I agree that is the same thought I have when I get out on my local rivers and lakes. To me the answer is people have become to obsessed with their electronic devices to get out there and truly enjoy the great outdoors. But like you I try to be an ambassador to nature and always promote "getting out there"!!
You may be right... Hopefully while they are on their devices they will run across a S&S video and get inspired to Get Out There!
I’m going to have to head that way.
Do it! Get Out There!
You are definitely a "hold my beer" kinda guy Trip
yea... Might be.... lol
You need to do a complete review on your Kahuna. Love your videos. Keep em up.
You're right, I do.... I wanted to do one while I was on this trip but I never got around to it. Coming soon though! Glad you enjoy them!
Do the Suwannee river in the winter late December ,January , February ! No bugs , snakes ,or Alligators.
Yea, probably should do that lol
This looked like one back of a good Paddle. I have to ask, because it's a river trip, I'd be worried about taking my Hobie outback on the river. Was there much for debris in the river that would break my marage drive? It looked pretty deep and clear of downed trees from your video.
It sure was! I wouldn't take a hobie in most any river with the drives in... To much of a risk. I definitely wouldn't take it down the Suwannee..... The water is so black, you couldn't see a tree 3" under the water until it's to late....
Hey Trip! I think you should name your camera "Wilson"
+Anthony Richmond Haha! How about Nick? (Its a Nikon lol)
I'm just picturing from one of your previous videos, where your looking for Wilson . Then we just gotta figure out how to make you a case shaped into a volleyball.
Ha! Yea I remember that! WOuldn't that be funny lol
Are there places to camp on this section of the Suwannee for a group of 7? The platforms look a bit small. Any info is appreciated. Subscribed
Oh for sure. There are typically 5 platforms at each camp I believe so there is plenty of room. You could fit up to like 4 hammocks in one if you needed too. Here is a video I did of the river camps - ua-cam.com/video/0PFoJdqYdLk/v-deo.html
Glad you subbed!
Thanks for replying, trip looks awesome. What would you suggest is the best section for a 2 nighter in December?
Pretty sure that spider in Dale's hut was a fishing spider.
Ah, thanks for the info Mike!
no stranger to tha rain rip Keith W.
Hahahaha don't quit your day job trip!!! Hahahaha great video!!
Ha! I won't! Thanks bud!
SailingandSuch I was only referring to the singing but the video itself was 5 star. Hope your making it through the storm ok down there.
I gotcha bud. We did just fine, it weakened a good bit before it got to us.
I'm no stranger to the rain- Keith Whitley ;)
+Charlie Ah yes. Would have been a great on to play!
Why didn’t you take a trip dip and got that stake back 😂🤪
No tent peg left behind!
Haha! Well, he fell into the black depths of the Suwannee..... If it were clearer I certainly would have gotten it.... That made me laugh lol thanks for the good comment!
Tell me what you use for securing your sunglasses? Looks longer than the normal croakies.
They are Nexstraps by Nexstep Products. Love them! They stay on and won't fall off since they are around my neck.
Hey trip I wanted to ask your opinion on something. I recently bought a small 12ft sailing dingy and I wanted to do some camping trips in it on lake ponderay. I enjoy kayaking but sitting in that's small cockpit all day makes my back and legs pretty sore. Not to mention all the work on the arms. Would you ever try dingy sailing camping?
I would absolutely try dingy sailing camping! I used to have a 17'er that I camped on. I'd LOVE to! I think it would be a blast. Go for it!
Eddie Rabbit “I love a rainy night”
Forgot that one!
Its an oldie but a goodie!
Helllllllll no with that spider man 😂😂😂
Haha! That was a big one!
Its been a Trip, but when you sang thet song.... That was to cool, but got me tickled as all get out...
Haha! Glad I could keep you entertained.
Greetings from Ontario Canada Just found your channel and am new to kayaking. Love your videos and appreciate you sharing your knowledge in such a fun, positive and informative way! So just curious, why is the water so black? Thanks and I hope you'll be safe from Irma!
+Lisa Rochon Hey Lisa! Glad you found the channel and that you enjoy the videos.
The water is black because the river mainly feeds out of a huuuuggggeeeee swamp where there is a lot of plant matter decaying all the time. It creates the blackness....
We will see how Irma does. As of right now looks like it might skirt us but if it goes farther west it could be a different story. We will see!
I’m very familiar with the Alapaha River I have a lake house in Irwin county an the river is on my property I have a 16 + foot gator in it
Oh cool!!!!
Trip, have you ever contracted giardia? If you keep drinking untreated river water, eventually you will have that most unpleasant experience. Please keep using your filter or some kind of disinfecting chemical. The videos are great!
Not that I'm aware of Jim... I usually only drink it when it's coming right out of a spring. Maybe I should do a little research though huh? lol I just love it to much! Glad you enjoy the videos. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Trip, you would be very aware if you ever contracted it. Commonly known as "beaver fever" because their droppings are one source of the parasite. You just never know what has been in the water upstream or before you arrived. Just ramblings of an old Scout leader.
+Jim Foutz I do always drink from a spring right as it comes out of the ground and if it very clear. Don't think there would be any beavers underground the river cave ;-)
People have been drinking from these springs for hundreds of years. If you get it direct from the spring head it's pretty safe, but it can't be recommended because...well, people are idiots and would just drink water in general areas. In fact, the wells used in the state parks come from the same aquifer anyway. It's the collection point that you need to be smart about.
It's not the water in the aquifer. It's after it has had time on the surface. Time for people and animals to soil it. We are all free to make our choices in life, right?
Keith Whitley, I'm no Stranger to the Rain bro
Good one!
How much was it to stay in the screened cabins at the river camps?
They are free!!!! Just have to reserve them
Great video it's very inspiring to watch you do these trips. I'm semi new to kayaking. I bought my first about six months ago and have been going every chance I get. I've never kayak camped but now I really want to try it out. Have you ever had an encounter with any alligators? I know I've seen a few in your videos but have they ever caused you any problems? I live in Mississippi and everywhere I go kayaking has alligators and it always worries me. I carry a gun but I'm always afraid their just going to flip me and pull me under before I see them.
Thanks Squatch!!! You should really try the camping aspect of it. It brings everything to a totally different level. No sketchy encounters, no. Just me trying to get close to them before they swim away. They are much more scared of us than we are of them. No need to worry about them flipping you, that's only in that movie Lake Placid ;-)
SailingandSuch haha I hope so I’m not going to let it stop me. Thanks for all the videos and advice. I really enjoy them.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Where do you buy all your MREs?
Someone actually gave me a few.... I think one of the best places to buy them is Amazon. But honestly, I'd suggest buying some dehydrated meals like Packit Gourmet stuff. Cheaper and better for you...
Beauty Berries can be used as mosquito repellent.
Cool! Thanks for the tip!
It's the leaf, not the actual berry. Your welcome! Love your videos!!!
@24:55 I do believe I caught a little Drop D 'Country Boy Can Survive' by Rockin' Randall.....
That's very possible ;-)
Man, I would have gone for ground beef and beans ... with a tortilla and hot sauce ... uhmm good
+playAgainMe Yea.... next trip maybe!
It's all fun and games until you eat something that wasn't a good idea, and you're popping a squat all night long in the bushes under moonlight!
Oh man I hate banana spiders!
Some crazy big rascals....
You should make a third video with the extra footage
Well, I could but it would be super boring lol
Nothing to do with this video BUTT a way to ask. I am going to North Car. from New Orleans area. U got any places I might do a paddle. I plan to camp with my nephew in N.C. I brought my mother to her sister so I can play. Woody
Oh boy, I don't know much about that area up there so I wouldn't be much help lol Hope you find something!
Flip your Stanley cup over and use it to extinguish the alcohol stove.
Good thinking! Thanks for the tip!
Not sure why you keep saying the water is black it is mostly clear with a orange tent the darkness comes from the bottom with all the plant debris breaking down it is called tannic water.
Maybe you're right..... Maybe it just looks black to me?
Where is the guy that goes with you when youre at camp?
He was around. He was just giving me space to film.
I do miss the kayak river camps - the new videos aren’t doing it for me anymore on your skiff or motor boat .
Come on TRIP get the kayak back out please 🙏🏻👍🏻🛶☀️😃🤠
Yea, sorry about that Adam.... I;ve got a paddling trip I will be doing this year ;) Don't worry.
Trip should run for Governor. He would beat Kay easily.
Run for governor? Sheesh lol I'd rather be paddling!
What guitar is that
amzn.to/2eNCBQ4 It's the Washburn Rover. I like it..... I have a few other guitars but since I've had this one I've been playing it a good bit. It's just easy to grab and play.... Sounds decent to!
why is the water so black there?
It's tannic water.... The river feeds from a HUGE swamp where there is a lot of plant matter decomposing in the water which makes it black.
what!? no avocado for breakfast??
Nope.... Didn't bring one this time. I'm trying to minimize my bulk in a few places and food is where I was focused on this trip. Maybe I can dehydrate one? lol
I love you so much
Love you too!
Next video: Kayaker has to get stomach pumped after camp host tells him to eat poisonous berries.
Haha! That would have made for a good video though I bet!
Always trust the old timers when it comes to wild edibles... old timers that eat the stuff that is. I am a mushroom hunter... if you ask someone that doesn't know or only hears the ole wives' tales, they'll tell you everything gives you the poops. Imagine a world where we all used wild edibles or medicinal plants! we'd never mow our grass or see a doctor unless it was dire. I haven't been to the doctor in over 10 years, nor needed to. Mother Earth provides
I wish I had the knowledge to know everything to eat Out There.... Would be cool to know and eat it all!
You should make your own music instead of using this royalty free stuff for the video
Only if I had the time..... No telling how long it would take to learn how to do that before I could even finish my first song.... Not enough time in the day my man.
