Great vid fellas! I just bought a full Stm combo for my xmr 850. I ran the cvtech though for the last year and it spun my 32” nators with ease! The cvtech is a great primary clutch for the money!
This video is gold Jerry! Gold! I have a can am 570. So glad to know the CVTECH is the one for me, that kits suck and the STM would have killed power. Most of all at a lower cost. I am frustrated that they bumped the price $127. They used to be $400 BUCKS! I have a transmission blanket from my drag car that's out of date. Too bad theres not a way to use it if I blow it up. Anyways, Kudos to you on an excellent video. Great job.
I was one off those people that helped them with the tuning of the cvtech. i am 16 years with can am racing, building high hp engines and spending hours on hours on a dyno in the last 10 years testing performance products to see what your getting for your money. The cvtech is a proven winner with many. It works well up to a 32 inch tire on the quads. Now there are pros and cons to every clutch so there are applications where the billets are going to be better then the cvtech will. The thing is too many drink the coolaid and THINK ( without testing and comparing) that a billet clutch is better for performance.
I do my research and make my choices. Most people don't have the time or $ for test tune ride, test tune ride etc. I got the QSC and STM combo set up for me and could not be happier. BUT that's just my opinion. Your kool aid comment (even with your resume'), was appreciated by few I'm sure.
2021 Outlander 650. Saw your earlier video and went with the Dalton 650 with the HD secondary spring. Happy with the results but damn now I want a cv tech. I should have listened to everyone’s advice. Meanwhile, it’s still better than stock.
Yah, when I made that video I didn’t know too much about clutching. I’ve learned a ton over the last 2 years and if you have the money, it’s better to jump right into the cvtech.
Such an amazing video! I know its possible to tune the CVtech to match a STM if your on 32in or less tires. To be honest. The CVtech has done me well over the years. My 570, 650, and 850 all had one on it. I've never broken one yet. The 570 did have a STM primary on it for its last ride and though it did great. Come to find out the CVtech I took off it wasn't tuned right. So yeah who knows what I could have been capable of. As for QSE. They're just like STM but way harder to tune from what I've seen. I think by the end of the day I never plan on going over 32in tires so the CVtech will always be my go to.
Thanks for that tidbit about qsc being harder to nail on tuning. Im not going bigger than 32s and might go 30s however gonna ride out on the stock cryptids till they are toast...still getting cvtech right away though. I think a cvtech w/yosh pipe and rvs tune should work fine.
Great video guys, I've been waiting for this for some time . I ride a 650XMR and have a cvtech primary. Stock secondary. I have been through 3 springs and 2 sets of weights using the knowledge of the experts with quite a few struggles. I would love to hear your spring and weight set up and if you see value in the secondary spring update. I found my set up tough to ride in tight trails as the power hits pretty hard wanting to lift the front end. I'd love to hear you comment or do a video on your findings or thoughts. Thanks for always sharing real time informative information.
The factory set up from CV tech give you the same performance.trailbloc give you peace of mind , more time in trail less at maintenance and save you a belt sometimes
I just got a cvtech for my 22 850 xtp from hightech powersports tuned from 3p clutching. They sent a grey secondary spring too. I run stock 26 in. Tires. I have a dynojet with an RVS performance tune. Should I try the stock secondary spring or run the Grey?
If got a 2022 850 outlander, wanting to run 32 in sassys. Will cvtech turn them good with them being one of the heaviest 32s? I don’t like the the price of the stm lol
It should handle them fine no problem. Just stick with a factory wheel or a light aftermarket wheel to help save some weight. Nick from 2up2down runs 32 sassys on his 650 with only a cvtech and epi white secondary spring
Awesome video. Super helpful! I'm looking to run the same setup. Which weights are you using with the 1017 spring? Have you been hitting rev limiter from wheel spin when hammering it while on the trails? I saw you were getting a peak RPM of around 7700rpm while in high, which is getting close to the 8000rpm cut off. So if in low on the trail and you hammer it, you must hit rev limiter? Thanks!
@@LetDirtFly if you're over revving then you need to add weight. Your 32's are lighter than your 30's. Or they have less grip off the line. Curious to know once you check your weights. Thanks
That's a really interesting issue you had with the stm on your 650. I have a 650 max xt and I'm definitely thinking of getting the cvtech now after hearing what you went through (30" CST Sludge Hammers are as big as I'm gonna go). I'm wondering if there are people that had similar problems with their machines?
There’s a ton of people that can’t get the stm to work on a 650. The problem is the fly weights are too heavy. We removed all of the weight out of the clutch and could only get 7400rpm out of the 650. For a 650 you want 8200. I figured, no big deal just do a primary and secondary spring swap. When I called 3P and STM they said my motor was “hurt” and that’s why I can’t get to the rpm. But yet my cvtech ran 8200 all day long
@@LetDirtFly Did you try a stiffer primary spring with those lighter weights ? And remember, there are two shift points on the primary spring, between start and finish, combined with fly weight ramp profiles, which all affect acceleration shift out RPM and performance. We race snowmobiles and clutching up north and have found thousands of parameters of opportunities to work with.. That difference in overall weight between those two clutches is essentially non-existent..given these tuning options.
So for heavy 32 assassinators on a Canam 850 XMR,.would you recommend a CVTech or an STM Rage 3 ? I could possibly go to 34 assassinators later on too...
The can am factory secondary clutches are a pretty good design. It’s just the primary that’s not great. Going to a stm secondary definitely helps and also is way more adjustable.
I've been running a cv tech and stm secondary since 2012 on my 800 max with 29 5 ol2 no issues and just swapped it onto my 19 xmr 850. Back when we bought the cv tech originally it was to gain a lower engagement or gear ratio. Is that not still the case or has can am since changed the primary from my 2012?
Yes that’s also the case that we didn’t mention in this video. I did mention it in the cvtech vs clutch kit video. The one way bearing is smaller which helps get the belt lower in the sheaves which equals more torque off the line.
We’ve never had a chance to try one yet. We’d love to one day. That kinda sucks if you only have one spring to choose from though. That leaves a lot of tuning left on the table.
Is the clutch properly tuned? You need a flash tune to raise your rev limiter to over 9k RPM and your shift out should be at or around 8300 RPM with a 650. The 650s make peak power at 8000RPM. If your clutch isn't properly tuned you won't feel any performance gain.
Yah there’s your problem. All the clutch companies say they’re going to tune for your setup, but 95% of the time there’s still tons of room for improvement on the table. When your in high, go wide open and see where the RPM is at under a pull. We have Mr.RPM flash tunes. There’s other companies as well. Stay away from wholesale ATV/atvflashing.com. He does cheap tunes and doesn’t do half of what he says he is going to do to it.
My top is fine I'm looking for more bottom end say like if my bike has gears it's like taking off in 3rd .. need more acceleration... good to know .. . I was just looking at wholesale ATV
You’ll be able to gain a ton of bottom end with clutch tuning. Depends on what you want out of the quad. You can make it so the front tires never touch the ground when you hit the gas lol, but you’d lose top end. Do you know what spring they have in the clutch? Also what size tires are you running.
Do you have draggy numbers with the stock clutch? Wondering how much time was taken off? I trail ride and drag race friends on big horns, thinking about getting a CVTech

If you’re on 34s with no clutching and no gear reduction like portals then you 100% need clutch’s. You’re creating too much heat. I’d probably go STM or QSC. @@LetDirtFly Not to mention all the free ads they got from guys like you and mud puppy. They know they have the lightest large diameter mud tire but its ugly so they needed the word out and now they can charge accordingly. With such a price gap now between the 2, im now leaning to the motohavocs.
@@legowolf22 It might not be as pretty as other tires, but they work and that's the only thing i care about. lol
How does it compare to stock clutch though?
It’s night and day from stock. Any aftermarket clutch is a massive gain over stock. Maybe in the spring we can film a video for you guys. The biggest thing with a aftermarket clutch is being able to tune the quad into its peak power. Stock, the quads under perform massively.
Is stm more durable
Getting away from the cvtech lol ordered stm primary and secondary for my commander

Now do the testing on a 1k outlander and renegade now!

To make the absolute most power to the wheels on a Renegade 1k what clutch setup would you recommend? (Heavy mud riding)
Hay para el g3L?
Hb a chain like subaru
Are those the aztec tires if so how do they perform
They are. Awesome in mud, great on the trail. Might be the best all around tire. They do run a little small.
