Bottom & Scum blow down procedure of Marine Boiler

I have one query what is the purpose of NR valve near boiler blowdown any way water cannot go to such height snd even if it goes in case ship sink, we already have non return overboard valve??

If you’re blowing down your boiler, it’ll stop the water and contaminants going back through your scum valves if they’re left open

Hi Man) I heard, when you doing scum/upper blow down first need to lower the level of water a little bit lower than scum blow down pipe, otherwise all impurities on the surface of the keep staying in the boiler, is it true? 🤔
