It doesn’t matter who’s dead or not. We all will be one day at least generations will be able to see this . Hopefully without mawkish reminders that we die
And that is why we loved them so much! I was 16 when this came out, first car, first girlfriend (Maybe second), we didn't know it but life was going to get much harder for some of us.
Might of been a studio musician named Tommy Tedesco. Original member of the famous and Wrecking Crew. They were the actual recording musicians on almost every Monkee song.
didn't miss many of their TV shows, always some good humor and a song. We would sing along to the car radio whenever their songs were being played, everyone knew the lyrics
A studio band created but bonded into friends and each talented musicians. Their songs are still awesome. I read, after Davy went home to God, God rest his soul, in concert, not one of them could sing Daydream Believer as that was Davy’s song. They used an isolated track of his voice and played against that. The Monkees are up there with the Beatles and Beach Boys. God bless Davy, Mike and Peter. Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let Perpetual Light shine upon them and may they rest in peace. Amen.
This is a great version, but the other one is good as well, but I can't believe that, Davy, Peter and Mike are gone, I remember that they last appeared at the beacon, years ago, but a couple of years ago, after Davy Jones, died the 3 original members, played there,in tribute to Davy Jones, great show, then, peter and Mike, passed away after that, I met mickey dolenez, on the street, he did interview at a local tv stations, I believe it was ABC, he was around Lincoln center, and it's sad the the other original members of the Monkees aren't around any more, I can't a great imagine, what he must be feeling, at that time, I know that,he must be thinking about his friends, Davy, Peter and Mike. Sad, R.I.P. Davy, Peter, Mike. We love the Monkees.❤️😞
LOL I love how they never show Nesmith actually playing those parts. It's either a close-up on "his" fingers or his face. Dang, The Wrecking Crew were awesome.
Outstanding track from the 60's.......... people forget that Mike was blazing along on an electric 12 string axe that few attempted to tackle. If you didn't love The Monkees, you just didn't love yourself
@@MichaelDWalsh what ever that was about, ' that scowl' it kinda threw me off, LoL but I still watch the Monkees on metv, and bring back a lot of memories, and to all of the, vallerie's, Valerie vahlari, I hope that you are reading, ' this song is for you !😉👍❤️❤️
The 1968 version is actually not remake. It's the original version that briefly appeared as the original B side of A Little Bit Me A Little Bit You that Don Kirshner released in Canada against orders. It was the reason he was fired.
From Brisbane Australia…… As a very naïve 7yr old I actually thought it was Mike playing the solo, Which I guess was kinda good in a way, it was my first steps to becoming a professional musician…. Many years later, I actually met and played on the same stage ( Sydney Opera House ) the gentleman who did… Mr Louie Shelton….. ps Not long after watching The Monkees, I watched Mason Williams perform Classical Gas and my fate was sealed ……..
Why people over analyse the Monkees we all know what they were and it was a great time for us all. In the end they had a long career so they showed plenty.
Yeah, Boyce and Hart wrote it. The original recording with Louie Shelton playing lead was the best. I saw the Monkees in concert after the time Valleri came out and I kept waiting for them to play it onstage, but they never did.
Nesmith has a 12 string in the video. That’s not a 12 that we hear in the recording. Also, the recording uses studio musicians for the instrumentals. The Monkees did do their own singing though.
@@steveweiss2081 Flamenco guitar licks on a 12 string would be tricky, if it's even possible. The first version of Valleri came out at a time when the Monkees were strongly insisting to play their own instruments. Mike must have been really upset to hear the musicians did this lead part for the song.
Interesting filming. Davy must have been sitting on the camera boom as he is pulled up and away from the rest of the band. Can't say I've ever seen that technique used before.
Lead guitar part was played by Louie Shelton. Mike was able to fake like he was playing it on TV. Camera kept cutting away because he had trouble faking it.
Despite the criticism here, Mike Nesmith in his prime was very good on lead guitar. During live concerts Mike was able to play a variation of this Spanish Flamenco guitar piece developed by the great guitarist Louie Shelton. The Monkees were very capable of playing their own instruments contrary to what the critics have always said!
@@almodovar251 I have never heard Mike do any kind of variation on the Spanish Flamenco guitar style. There was a time in the Monkees' performances when they had a different lead guitar player participate and play that lead though.
Seems like after a good meal or good music or a good times are over, all you are left with is a lot of garbage.. After great musicians like Davy, Peter, Mike and Mickey...and their great songs (and yes they really were all real musicians).... Seems like there has been a lot of musical garbage ever since,
I went to Catholic school. My classmate in 8th grade asked a nun who had no sense of humor if she would sing this in our music class😂 grabbed by his ear took in hallway and got pointer across his arse😂😂😂

The best version too

Yes I agree, this is the best version of Valerie. So glad I found this! The boys never sang better harmony than this - its perfection.
There is a lot of out of tune singing here. Not sure what you're listening to.
I think Steve Winwood's version is the best.
Air guitar at its best
I love this song and I love this TV show of the Monkees shows ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

January 1st, 2025. Who's listening to one of the best groups of the 60s?
Here's one in Texas!
Jan 3rd...me
Such great harmony..
Always love this song & the Monkees in 2025!
I will have to admit that Louie Shelton was a fabulous guitar player!
Wonderful group! Great TV Series, great songs, acting, etc etc. So good to hear them in 2024. Enjoy everyone. May God Bless.
One of their best tracks very underrated
These guys are extremely special and deserve a lot of respect and recognition!
All I want is their car.
Mike's Spanish/Flamingo rip in end is Awwwesome!

Monkees didn't play their own instruments
Always loved The Monkeys…and still…May God Bless.
*The Monkees
Thank you for pointing that out.
Always liked it. Great song

The intro almost sounds like The Rolling Stones Satisfaction
It's the guitar tone.
Loved the Monkees! Knew all their songs by heart. Was in Jr. High when they came on the scene.
I love the groove of that song. I like the satire. "we've been off the air 5 minutes ago.".
Some dynamic tambourine playing there....
